About this property

'Just a Step Away' - a Very Private Cabin

This is a very private cabin on a beautiful large 3.5 acre lot. It is in a small community of larger plot mini farms along a secluded section of Stover Creek. This rustic and well maintained chink log cabin is in it's own valley and neighbors are out of view, even in winter months. The large screened porch, with a luxurious hot tub, faces the woods. The relaxing sounds of nature and rushing water will wash away the worries of city life.
Two full bedrooms, large loft and sofa beds provide sleeping for up to 6 adults comfortably. Two large bathrooms and a washer and dryer provide facilities for all guests’ cleaning needs. The kitchen is well appointed, including a large refrigerator, a dishwasher and a full size gas range and stove.
There is Direct TV, phone service and DSL WiFi, a sound system, and central heat and air. The atmosphere from a real wood burning stone fireplace, with a gas starter, makes it feel like camping without 'roughing it.' Firewood is provided.
This wonderful retreat is in the Blue Ridge Wildlife Management Area of the Chattahoochee National Forest, but is still only an hour and a half drive from Atlanta.
There are lots fun things to do in this area. Hiking abounds: the Benton MacKaye and the Appalachian Trails heads are about 12 miles away on Springer Mountain, and there are numerous hiking trails close by that lead to several waterfalls, a swinging bridge, and spectacular mountain views. Fishing opportunities in the numerous trout streams and in area mountain lakes are plentiful and cater to all skill levels. The kayaking and tubing opportunities on the Cartecay and Toccoa rivers are very close by and the shuttle services are inexpensive and easy to navigate. More challenging guided white water rafting is a short drive away, as well. Mountain bike trails and horseback riding are also easy to locate and enjoy.
Beautiful downtown Ellijay is about 15 miles away. Ellijay has numerous antique shops and art galleries and small eateries. Ellijay is host to an apple festival in October, while the numerous orchards are open all year long and have tours, some offer hayrides and petting areas for the kids. The city of Blue Ridge is about 25 miles from this cabin. Blue Ridge offers old-fashioned train rides along the Toccoa River and plenty of shops, restaurants and bars to enjoy as well. The entire area is rich with history and southern culture and charm.
The mountains of northwest Georgia are not overly touristy or trashy. The locals have character are pleasant and eager to please visitors. Simply driving through this naturally beautiful area is a scenic adventure. Come see for yourself, and I’m sure you’ll have a difficult time keeping this place a secret!

Weekend trip
The cabin is well stocked with items for your use. Everything was in good working order. The outdoor area is small, I wouldn't recommend multiple vehicles. I would recommend a truck or 4wd/awd vehicle. Cell service is nonexistent at the cabin but there is a landline and wifi. We were looking to get away for the weekend and this place was ideal. We had a wonderful time visiting the surrounding area.

Best cabin experience ever!!
This vacation trip was made absolutely wonderful by our decision to pick this cabin. I wanna say thank you to Eric and Claudia for sharing the cabin with us. Started out with the adventure thru the back roads ( feels like an enchanted forest) and ending up on a very large very private cabin with the most beautiful land and views. The cabin was gorgeous soon as you walk in.. we adored it instantly and it had all the items needed and plenty more! Walking to the big creek was a blast and the water is beautiful. Then after a campfire and we went in and enjoyed the hot tub while listening to the creek flow below. So tranquil and the most relaxing place we have ever stayed!! We definitely highly recommend this place and ill definitely be reserving it again soon. Best trip ever!!

Beautiful mountain escape!
The house was even cuter than the pictures! You can even hear the stream from the house. The kids loved walking down to the creek. If you are looking for a peaceful, quiet escape, this is the place for you!

LA geezers
We had a very relaxing stay at this beautiful cabin. It is remote, private and secluded but the Wi-Fi and direct TV worked well. We had everything we needed in this well stocked home away from home. Listening to the stream while rocking on the screened porch was really soothing. The last mile or so is gravel but we had no trouble without 4-wheel drive. The only negative I have is that my husband couldn’t get comfortable on the living room furniture and kept a slight backache. But, hey we’re seniors after all. Our pup was very happy on the trails and gives them a 👍

What a wonderful hidden gem. We fell asleep to the sounds of the babbling stream. Our kids loved the hot tub. It was less than 30 min to I credible hiking. The owner is super accommodating too!

Wonderful Mountain Getaway
My wife and I have now stayed at "Just a Step Away" three or four times. We book a long weekend here every January. We love that the cabin is quiet and secluded. It lets us get away from it all for a few days. Despite being quiet and secluded, the cabin is well-appointed, with comfortable beds and furnishings. The kitchen has just about everything you could want. We love the hot tub, even in the January cold. And, there's nothing like spending your days curled up on the couch with a good book and a roaring fire going in the fireplace. We find "Just a Step Away" the perfect place to spend a few days recharging our batteries. We can't wait to stay there again next year.

Perfect Remote Getaway
We have now stayed at this property three times and have thoroughly enjoyed it every time. The home is very clean and inviting. The fireplace is a definite plus during the winter time, and the patio with the hot tub is a great way to unwind after a day of hiking. It's also a very remote property, so you feel totally disconnected from the world. Highly recommend.

A great experience!
We recently stayed at this cabin and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The cabin itself is a hidden gem – simple yet elegant and far more beautiful and cozy than the pictures suggest. It truly exceeded our expectations, offering a level of comfort and serenity that you have to experience to believe. The location is perfect for a peaceful getaway, nestled among trees and just a few feet away from a tranquil river, with no neighbors in sight. The beds were notably comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. Overall, this cabin is an amazing place for a retreat, and we highly recommend it for a truly formidable experience. We are looking forward to repeating, this time during summer.

Super relaxing woodsy get-away
The house was beautiful and comfortable! Eric had everything you could possibly need for an enjoyable stay. Tons of games, a very well-stocked kitchen, extra blankets, movies, fire place and our personal favorite, the hot-tub! We definitely enjoyed the remoteness of the cabin and the beautiful drives through the surrounding areas when we wanted to head into town. Elijay is not too far and Blue Ridge is only a little farther.

Short Get A Way
My husband and I wanted to go away for a few days for our anniversary to get out of the hustle and bustle of life but not go to far away. This was the perfect spot for that. We were able to just hang out and relax. Ellijay was not too far away so we spent the day in town and then came back to chill. The cabin was perfect. It had everything we needed and more. The pictures portrayed it perfect. Thank you so much for opening up your cabin for us to enjoy! It was very nice!!

Great cabin, remote location
We enjoyed our stay and found the cabin very nice and clean. It was exactly as depicted in photos on listing. We did ,however, have problems with cell and internet service, which was very limited. We felt this was possibly due to the remote location. Overall, our stay was very relaxing and exactly what we were looking for.

The cabin was wonderful! We had more than enough room for the five of us (4 adults and an infant). It was so well stocked! It is definitely very private! Make sure to save or write down the lock box code BEFORE getting all the way out to the cabin. We had a wonderful and relaxing weekend and would stay here again!

Secluded getaway
I came with my best friend for a girls weekend. We had the best time. The cabin is absolutely immaculate. They thought of everything. When it says secluded they mean it! It’s fantastic. The only sounds are animals and wind rustling the leaves. The hot tub is fabulous after a day of sightseeing. If I had to complain about something, it would only be that the couch is not comfortable, certainly not a dealbreaker though. Would love to come back with my family. Thank you so much for such an amazing weekend away!!!

Fall Weekend
House is very well-maintained and extremely comfortable. Came up for a couple days for a girlfriends wedding. Be aware of a lot of gravel road driving. It’s extremely secluded, and very private. Lots of stairs to access the front door. Definitely will rent again… Next time will travel in my SUV versus my sedan.

Perfect!
My partner and I absolutely loved this rental! The cabin is the best stocked of any rental I’ve ever been in. It’s very clean and cozy. We loved the sound of the water from the nearby stream, was just the chefs kiss to the peace of the property. We love how secluded it was and no neighbors were in view. The drive to the house may have been confusing, but the owner made it simple with his directions. Would definitely stay here again!

I am an fly fisherman and hiker and throw pottery which I sell at art festivals in the Atlanta area. Please feel free to ask me for some good fishing areas for your particular skill level or the location for some of my favorite hikes.

Why they chose this property

This is a very private and special place that relaxes me every time I make that turn off the main road on my way there.

What makes this property unique

I have the creek all to myself and don't have to share, the kitchen is easy to cook in, and the hot tub releases the aches and pains from a good days hiking or fishing in the many area streams filled with fish.
