About this property

Host & Stay | Doray House

Summary:
Nestled in the quaint village of Newton-by-the-Sea on the Northumberland coast, Doray House is a spacious holiday home sleeping up to 6 guests. The perfect base for families and groups of friends to enjoy a staycation in the North East, you’ll have full access to the property during your stay which also includes free on site parking, an enclosed paved garden with outdoor furniture, and a bright conservatory.

The Space:
Doray House has a bright and welcoming open-plan living, kitchen and dining room. With a large beige corner sofa and a flat screen TV, it’s a great place to unwind with your loved ones after a busy day exploring the area.

Both modern and traditional in style, there is a fully equipped kitchen with handy appliances and cookware so you can prepare meals easily during your stay. Also sharing this space is the dining area which includes a generously sized wooden table and seating for up to eight as the table is a fold-out one. There is also a breakfast bar with additional seating for two directly behind the table.

More living space is provided in the conservatory which is a great social hub for you and your guests. Comfortable and light, this is the perfect spot to relax.

The property has three bedrooms. There are two king-size bedrooms on the first floor, whilst the ground floor is home to a double bedroom. Each bed has plush bedding and premium bed linens to ensure you have the best sleep possible.

There are two family bathrooms at Doray House. The one on the ground floor is a good-sized shower room, also featuring a wash basin and WC. The first floor bathroom includes a bathtub, separate shower, WC and basin.

Outside you’ll find an enclosed garden with outdoor furniture where you can soak up the sun.

Guest Access:
Guests have access to the full property. The keys to the property are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.

There is on site parking for one vehicle. An additional vehicle can be parked for free outside the property gate.

The Neighborhood:
Newton-by-the-Sea is a delightful village which is popular for sailing and windsurfing with a lovely sandy beach and fine views across Embleton Bay to Dunstanburgh Castle. The area is renowned for bird watching and the National Trust owns most of the village and surrounding countryside.

The 'square' is the heart of the old village, where low buildings surround a large grass square, with a pub in the corner serving bar meals and hot soups for those walking on wild days.

You’ll be spoiled by wildlife when staying in Newton-by-the-Sea. Visit the Newton Pool, a freshwater Nature Reserve just 80 metres from the shore, with its accessible hides it is a good place to observe migrating birds, head to see a breeding colony of terns at Long Nanny Burn in the middle of Beadnell Bay, or look out for sponges and anemones on the soft rock shore on the overhanging rocks, or go rockpooling, finding hermit crabs and porcelain crabs.

In the village, visit Low Newton Square with its cream-washed cottages and an historic pub. Also look out for the unusual St Mary’s church, which dates from the end of the 19th century. The church, originally purchased in kit form, is constructed from corrugated steel sheeting and features pretty stained glass windows - It is known locally as the 'Tin Church'.

Getting Around:
Newton-by-the-Sea is served by a two-hourly daytime bus service between May and September. There is a less-frequent service in the winter months.

The 418 Service connects with Bamburgh, Seahouses and Belford to the North and Alnwick via the Coastal Villages to the south. The X18 stops at the crossroads and continues to Berwick-upon-Tweed and Morpeth and Newcastle to the south.

Interaction with Guests:
We’re always available for our guests so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Great property
Great stay at Doray House. The house is well situated for the lovely Northumberland beaches, we had our 2 dogs and they were very happy. Plenty of space and outside area to sit, would definitely visit again.
