About this property
Historic Trullo Holiday Home in Puglia,
Enjoy everything the Itria Valley has to offer! Spend your days discovering the surrounding area as there are many things to do nearby. Your home away from home gives you exclusive access to an entire house designed to allow you to live as a local.
The property is on it's own in rolling countryside. The historic town of Locorotondo is about 10 minutes away. The nearby village of San Marco has a Post Office, two small shops, a prescribing Pharmacy, a restaurant/pizzeria and two family run bar/cafes
The sea is approximately 20 minutes drive away, as is the UNESCO world heritage site of Alberobello. The caves (Grotte) of Castellana are stunning and have regular tours in various languages.
There is an outdoor private swimming pool onsite for your enjoyment!
Staying here also allows you access to the large private garden.
As a self-catering house, you'll find everything you need for a perfect stay. (including seasonal wild fruits and veg, such as wild asparagi, figs, rocket, etc.)
The kitchen has a fridge-freezer, a gas hob, an oven, a kettle, a coffee maker, a dishwasher and a washing machine.
The house is a perfect place to relax and offers a television and WiFi internet access.
This house has 2 bedrooms and can comfortably sleep 6.
In the first bedroom, you will find a king bed.
The second bedroom contains twin beds which can used as a push together double bed.
There is additional sleeping space in the Trullo house, comprising a generous double sofa bed.
There are 2 bathrooms.
The first bathroom has a toilet (with a bidet spray nozzle) and sink and a walk-in shower. Power point for shaver or hair dryer.
The second, smaller bathroom has a toilet and sink.
Linen and towels are all included to make your stay more enjoyable.
House Rules:
- Check-in time is 4pm and check-out is 10am.
- Smoking is not allowed.
- There are on-site parking facilities available at the property.
- A dishwasher and a washing machine are included for your use.

About Enrico Trullo.
There are a few quirks about the property that holiday occupiers should know.
The property has three main levels: the house and patio level, the BBQ and water cistern level, then the swimming pool level. The original steps from the house level to the BBQ level are a bit steep, I have had them restored and cemented, but they are steep and guests need to be aware.
Inside the house and the upper patios are paved with natural local stone tiles which can be a little slippery when wet, as can the tiled area around the pool.
As with most rural properties in the region, the house does not have mains water. The water is delivered by tanker and topped up with rainwater harvested from the roof. It is filtered and pumped into the house. It is fine for washing, etc. but not recommended for drinking. Most Italians only drink bottled water.
Due to our burglary experience, we do have an alarm system, video surveillance system covering all doors and windows, plus an armed guard security response service. Our property manager, Michele, is also an officer with the security company. As we change the alarm PIN often he will give you the current code when you arrive. He can also switch off the cameras during your stay should you prefer.
The original trullo and grounds were historically an artisan small holding, so many of the old crops keep recurring around the property. Wild rocket grows in places, as does wild asparagi in spring. The prickly pear cactus fruits are delicious when ripe, but real care should be taken when picking, as they have fine almost invisible prickles as well as the obvious ones and they irritate. Apparently there are truffles around the trees in my upper field, but I don't know how to find them. I have recently planted Corbezzolo bushes which have strawberry like fruits, when ripe they are delicious and locals also use them to make a liqueur.
I have been restoring the property over many years, exacerbated by the covid years, but it was only in April 2022 that I discovered that I actually have another trullo ruin at the top of my field!
