A stunning, detached cottage, situated in landscaped gardens with a river and woodland walk in the grounds. In the Lake District National park and with easy access to pubs and shops.. 1 step to entrance.

Welcome to Monkwood, a stunning, detached, sandstone cottage, set in private gardens and grounds and with the river Calder running through a private woodland alongside, perfect for a relaxing and peaceful holiday in The Lake District. Split over three floors, this beautiful property has a homely feel, with plenty of character and original features. The high spec. Finish and attention to detail are evident as soon as you arrive.
On the second floor, you’ll find a single attic bedroom with river views and a large split-level single attic bedroom with a TV, both with low headroom. The first floor features a spacious king-size bedroom with plenty of storage and hanging space and a double bedroom with lovely views of the gardens and river. The contemporary bathroom offers a bath, a separate shower cubicle and a heated towel rail. The ground floor features a beautiful kitchen with Rayburn, providing central heating into the house in the colder months, and for convenience, you also have an electric oven and an electric hob as well as a breakfast table, microwave, and fridge.
The open-plan living room and dining room are well furnished, it offers comfortable easy seating, a large wood burner, a dining table and huge windows which flood the living room with daylight and offer fantastic views of the gardens and river. Outside you’ll find plenty of parking and beautiful gardens with mature plants shrubs and borders. There’s also a bothy next door to the cottage that’s been converted to make an excellent utility room with freezer, washing machine and dryer. The lawn is perfect for family fun where you can play croquet, badminton, and football and while away the hours watching the kids play.
The cottage is set in spacious grounds with a private woodland walk alongside the river Calder. The owners have rights to fishing and in season you can fish for brown trout and salmon with a catch-and-release policy. You can spot plenty of wildlife including deer, bats, hares, pheasants, and lots of bird life that live around the river. Calderbridge is within the National Park and gives you easy access to the lakes, and fells, and just a short drive to Wasdale, home of Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England.
If you like the outdoors, walking, cycling, and hiking this is one of the most natural areas of the lakes with beautiful countryside, views, and scenery. Locally there’s plenty to do, a pub within walking distance (1¼ miles), several more within 5 miles and plenty of great days out. Visit La’al Ratty, a miniature railway that runs on an old mining line, or Muncaster Castle, full of history, and fun for all ages including mini golf and a falconry display. The coastal town of Whitehaven is only a short drive, with a nice harbour, major supermarkets, shops, bars, and restaurants. The local village of Gosforth just 3½ miles away offers pubs and cafes. The nearby town of Egremont offers independent shops and cafés.
