Town: Located on the banks of the Ericht River, Blairgowrie is a red sandstone town in Strathmore, Scotland. A great place to begin your exploration of Perthshire and the Angus Glens, it has a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes. The town is surrounded by rolling fields known for their berries and is the main link to Scotland's largest ski resort, Glenshee, which is perched atop hills and mountains. Horseback riding, cycling, mountain biking, and hill walking are all possible in the surrounding countryside, while golfers can choose from a number of top-notch courses (including Rosemount) in the area. Gleneagles, Carnoustie, and St. Andrews are all within a few hours' drive. Glamis Castle, the setting for Macbeth and reputedly Scotland's most haunted castle, is home to the world's tallest beech hedge (600 metres long and 30 metres high), a collection of Pictish sculptured stones from Meikleour. With its historic cathedral, riverside walks, and towering trees like the Birnam Oak and parent Larches of Dunkeld, Dunkeld is a charming small town that is well worth a visit. The Hermitage, meanwhile, is home to a series of stunning waterfalls. Many woodlands in the area are home to a wide variety of wildlife, including red squirrels, foxes, deer, swifts, goldcrests, and buzzards, as well as breeding Ospreys.
