Set in the heart of the beautiful East Devon countryside between the coastal resorts of Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton, Thorntree Cottage offers a relaxing break with the sea, moors and Jurassic coastline within easy reach.
This two-bedroom single storey cottage can comfortably accommodate up to six guests and forms part of a unique courtyard development of converted farm buildings with use of extensive communal gardens and its own private and enclosed south-facing garden. From here you can walk through the extensive communal gardens across fields to the River Otter.
Upon entering the holiday home, you will be welcomed into the open plan kitchen, living and dining area which feels bright and spacious. The living area has a Smart TV with Freeview and plenty of comfortable seating including a three- seater sofa and a double sofa bed which can be setup to accommodate two guests if requested. Wind down and watch a film here after a busy day exploring the coastline. The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric oven, electric hob, fridge/ freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave and the dining table and chairs provides a great space to enjoy a family meal.
The front door has four steps leading down to the fully enclosed south-facing garden which has a small lawn, garden furniture and a parasol. Discover the two cosy bedrooms, the first with a double bed and the other with twin beds. The family bathroom is fitted with a bath, shower cubicle, toilet and sink, offering the choice of a refreshing shower or a relaxing bath after a busy day exploring Devon.
The village of Colaton Raleigh has a great local shop and a fantastic pub called ‘The Otter’ which is just 200 yards away and it offers meals and a beer garden. Otterton is just one mile away with a church, shops, pub and the charming Otterton Mill and the coastal resorts of Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth are 4 miles. Nearby, Exmouth has a two-mile sandy beach and offers excellent water sports facilities including sailing, power boating, water skiing, jet skiing, wake and paddle boarding, wind or kite surfing and canoeing. Coastal and estuary cruises operate from the dock and charter boats are available for fishing trips. From November to February, the Exe Estuary is home for some 20,000 migratory birds and the red sandstone cliffs of Orcombe Point at the eastern end of the beach are designated the gateway to the World Heritage Jurassic Coast.
The beautiful, pebbled heathlands of East Devon with extensive walks, abundant wildlife, rare plants, and splendid panoramic views are only a few minutes’ drive from the property and the Southwest coastal path is nearby. Keen hikers should head to Dartmoor National Park with is just a 30-minute drive away and the quintessential East Devon coastal towns and villages of Budleigh Salterton, Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth and Seaton are within easy reach. You’ll struggle to fit everything into one visit to Thorntree Cottage and you will certainly want to stay time and time again!
