About this property

Serene Jungle Retreat w/Pool in Wildlife Reserve

Los Proyectos Moderno is a private fully equipped modern villa nestled in lush jungle 15 mins from Punta Uva Beach. Perched on a secluded 1.5 acre lot and surrounded by infinite pristine nature, LPM is a pool getaway of palm trees and endless Instagrams tucked away in the Gandoca Manzanillo wildlife reserve. Like Tulum, Punta Uva is destined to be a favorite amongst bohemians. We recommend a 4x4 vehicle, to access the property.

About your place

This house is located near Playa Chiquita, just outside of Puerto Viejo, Limón. Perched on a secluded five acre lot and surrounded by infinite pristine nature, you’ll enjoy endless spectacular views as you discover all the amazing wildlife Costa Rica has to offer. Upon entering the house, you’ll be greeted with lush jungle just beyond your private observation deck, complete with plunge pool, lounge chairs, and outdoor ceiling fans. Open up the custom accordion folding doors across the entire length of the house and enjoy the ultimate experience in indoor/outdoor jungle living.

Continue exploring the house and you’ll find a master bedroom including a king size bed and private bathroom, and a second bedroom with two twin beds (which can be pushed together) and another private bathroom. The kitchen houses a refrigerator with freezer, an induction cooktop, coffee maker, blender, cookware, dinnerware, glassware, and silverware.

We have recently added access to the studio upon for bigger parties upon request. The studio is a one bedroom stand-alone structure with a half bath (no shower).

Less than fifteen minutes from the shore, this house is located 5.5 kilometers (3.4 miles) off the main road, up a dirt mountain road. Nestled in the jungle, quite secluded, and surrounded by trees housing monkeys, sloths, and tucans, you’re a scenic 20 minute drive to the heart of Puerto Viejo.

Although most vehicles would make it up the dirt road, it is highly recommend that our guests rent a four-wheel-drive vehicle as the road can get quite muddy during extended periods of rainfall.

It is important to note that this is quite literally a house in the middle of the jungle. Although nature lovers will rejoice when waking to the sounds of howler monkeys and occasionally watching them migrate through the trees, the jungle is also home to much smaller animals, including insects, reptiles and amphibians. We ask that you please respect Mother Nature and all of her inhabitants, big and small. Fires are never allowed.

Water pumps directly to the house from a well on the property, allowing fully functional kitchen and restrooms. Please note that paper towels, toilet paper, and hygiene products should NEVER be flushed in the toilets, and all garbage and waste should be packed neatly so as not to attract local dogs or other animals.

Due to the secluded location, wifi is not currently available and your cell phone service will be limited. Take pleasure in the ultimate rest and relaxation experience in the privacy of your own jungle home, and enjoy reliable wifi and cell service all throughout town.

What guests can access
Bask in indoor/outdoor living as you open up your glass accordion doors and expand your living space right onto your private observation deck, complete with plunge pool (with massage jets) and lounge chairs. Nature lovers and adventurists are free to explore the wild thicket of the jungle and discover all nature has to offer.

Your interaction with guests
The host will happily answer any questions you may have regarding travel to Puerto Viejo and your stay in the jungle house. Recommendations and guidance are available for restaurants, tours, transportation, and things to do.

Other things to note
The nearest international airport is in San Jose: Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Santamaría (SJO). Puerto Viejo is approximately a 4 to 5 hour drive from San Jose in regular traffic. Rental cars are available in San Jose through most large rental car agencies. It is highly recommend for our guests to have a 4X4 vehicle. Although most vehicles could may the drive, four-wheel-drive may be required during heavier rain, which can be unpredictable. If you don’t want to drive from San Jose to Puerto Viejo, private cars, taxis, and plane/helicopter charters are available. However, you will still be required to rent a vehicle in Puerto Viejo (Alamo or Adobe only) as most taxis will not drive up the mountain road.

About the neighborhood
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a popular tourist destination on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, not far from the Panamanian border at Sixaola. Known in the surfing community for the biggest and most powerful waves in Costa Rica, it is also home to some of the most spectacular beaches, such as Playa Chiquita, Playa Negra, and Punta Uva, which can be found throughout the stretch between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo. The townspeople are made up of native Costa Ricans (“ticos”), a substantial Jamaican population, as well as a number of Europeans who have emigrated to the area.

Things to do: River rafting, snorkeling, hiking, Jaguar Rescue Center, zip lining, horseback riding, kayaking, chocolate tour, mangroves, dolphin/bird/sea turtle watching, sport fishing, surfing/surf lessons, diving.

Things to see: Indigenous reserves, Tortuguero (national park), Bocas Del Toro (Panama), Arenal Volcano (hot springs).

How to get around
Although most vehicles would make it up the dirt road, we highly recommend our guests to rent a four-wheel-drive vehicle as the road can get quite muddy during extended and unexpected periods of rain.

Should have been perfect but...

This is the hardest review to write as everything was perfect except for the fact we had no running water more 3/4 of our stay. We rented for five days and over 3 of them, could not shower and had to pull buckets of water from the pool to flush the toilets. When we first arrived we were told we had enough to last 2-2.5 days, we ran out that evening. First it was a sediment issue, then the pump, then we ran out, then the water truck broke down. Delivery finally arrived, 4 1/2 hrs late on the day of our departure. We did dishes and then again, no water. We made the most of a bad situation but most would have left. I understand how things work in C.R. as this was my 11th vacation rental home in this country, but water is a NECESSITY. I hope this issue is fixed for future renters as this was a beautiful property with lots of birds, peace and quiet.

Great property in middle of wild forest

I would say, be more prepared to be in middle of nowhere, if you want to venture out to civilization, it s a bit of a drive. Trips to restaurants ,etc in Perta Vieja are good 15-20 mins drive on gravel bumpy road. So back and forth to go out to restaurants is challenging. If you want to lock yourself up in middle of nowhere - great property. Manager and their team are great communicators, very helpful and cooperating..

Jungle Heaven

We had a beautiful two and a half week stay in this property and are still missing the sounds of the rainforest at night and watching the sun rise from bed. The property is extremely clean and tidy with a little wear and tear outside as is to be expected somewhere where the sun shines so strong and the rain can be so torrential! On arrival we were met by the wonderful Fabien who checked us in and a few days later took us on an amazing night tour. As Shevonne advised during the pre visit communications, we absolutely did need a 4x4! The road/track up to the property is steep, potholed and rough but a fun 15 minutes to get up and down! We had barbeques a lot and gifted the property a toaster as we are British and do like toast and tea for breakfast! We also sampled many of the local bars and restaurants around Punta Uva and in Puerto Viejo. Our favourite was El Refugio. Fabian had made sure we had plenty of water when we arrived (and some other very generous gifts!) - as the property's running water is supplied by a well, it's not potable but fine for showers (not too many!) and brushing teeth. We found it wasn't great for washing our clothes though but the team came and cleaned and did all our laundry one day for which we were very grateful! They also helped us with a driver back to the airport when we were (not really) ready to go home. We had howler monkeys wake us up each day and they visited the garden several times along with toucans (three species), hummingbirds and on drier days the frogs had a party in the pool in the evenings! We had some close encounters with bats, a (not at all dangerous) snake and the lovely green and black poison dart frogs (not poisonous if you don't eat them!). All in all, this was an incredibly relaxing and joy filled trip, the memories of which we will cherish for many years to come. Special thanks to Fabian and Shevonne.

Great House in the Jungle

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. We heard Howler Monkeys every morning and saw quite a number of birds. We really enjoyed sitting outside with a drink and our binoculars around sunset. I loved the drive in and out of the property, took us about 10 minutes from the main road. The living space is a little smaller than I thought from looking at the pictures but we were outside most of the time and that space was large. We found that the fans kept things nice and cool. We had planned to cook a little more than we did but found the restaurants close by to be fun and delicious. I felt that this place was far enough removed to feel like you were in the jungle but close enough to enjoy the things that the small towns had to offer.

Modern charm in a country villa

Off the beaten path just the right distance. Peaceful are with lots of wildlife. Very little traffic compared to the main beach road a few km down the hill. Such a value.

perfect getaway in the jungle

When you go there, it's just WOW. After a long drive through the jungle, the gate is on the right. Once you open the gate you'll see the house standing in the middle of huge trees, and a garden. The house is really nice, you have all you need to enjoy the time there. We liked the place, we even had a humming-bird in our home :) There's a coconut tree, but they were not ready to harvest, but the next people will be happy.

Comfortable and secluded

This home was away from the beach crowds in a safe and private setting. We had all that we needed and were only 15 minutes from stores, restaurants and beaches. Both the homeowner and the property manager were attentive to our questions and needs.

Quiet and Peaceful stay with everything you need

The place is beautiful and very well equipped. Loved the pool! Beds were super comfy too. Omari was really amazing to work with, immediately responding to any question I had. I echo what previous reviews stated about the road to the property. You really should have a four wheel drive because it is rugged and full of pot holes. The only negative part we encountered were the glass doors. Although aesthetically beautiful, the one In front of the living room were difficult to open and get closed properly. Probably because of this a couple of the locks on those doors were inoperable too. My work around for this was to use the glass doors in front of the bedrooms instead. They worked smoothly and the locks were fine. I imagine the others have just been used more frequently and are experiencing wear and tear. The last thing I would mention is that Omari has an amazing movie collection. Seriously something from every genre you could imagine. Puerto Viejo was a great town, quaint and small, we never had a bad meal there. As a solo female traveling with a child I was slightly concerned after reading some of the descriptions of the town on Travel websites. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and I never felt unsafe, although we were never out after dark. I would just recommend staying aware of your surroundings, not openly carrying large amounts of money etc. Normal travel precautions. But overall, I felt safer here than I have in many European countries that I have visited. If you are considering Omaris place, I would say look no further. You will not be disappointed!

Nature lovers paradise

If you truly want to reconnect with nature, this place is well laid out and has just what you need to truly relax. We really enjoyed waking up to the sun cresting the hills and shining on you, while you're lying in bed. The pool is the perfect size for cooling off and there are some great restaurants like NOA Beach Club (amazing food at good prices), not too far away. The Jaguar Rescue Center is close by and well worth every minute you spend there. The host Henri truly makes you feel at home and is very knowledgeable about the area. If you want to unplug from technology and experience glamping first class, this is the place to go.
