About this property
La Casetta Rossa - Two Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 5
La Casetta Rossa is a character-filled cottage which sits at the foot of the Lucchesia hills, just a short drive from beautiful medieval villages and the city of Lucca.
The cottage is in the grounds of a large estate filled with vineyards and surrounded by farmland, offering you magnificent panoramic views from inside the bright and spacious house. Sleeping up to five people across two bedrooms, the home is ideal for a family break, and the open-plan living area is perfect for an evening of chatting with a glass of wine which you can sample and buy from a local vineyard.
The garden of the house is a wonderful feature and seems to blend into the countryside as it is filled with wild-flowers and trees, providing a truly natural feel. The modern pool and covered seating areas are located amongst the vines and the grasses to create a beautiful oasis to enjoy on sunny days.
Glance up in the garden, and you will see a hilltop settlement which has been there since the fourteenth century. Today, several of the medieval buildings and defensive town walls still stand and make for a great day of exploring; visit the 13th century hillside fortress and beautiful 9th century church. Keen hikers could walk up the 3km hill and be rewarded with a delicious meal in a traditional Tuscan restaurant.
If you wish to venture further out for some day trips, then you are well-placed to do so. Tuscany is a diverse region, and you are able to enjoy hiking, horse riding and wine-tasting in the countryside near to the cottage or head into Lucca, Pisa or even Florence for all the amenities and attractions of city life.

Located in the northern Tuscan hills, La Casetta Rossa is perfectly situated for a holiday filled with walking in the countryside and wandering around small hamlets and villages or for a break packed with visits to all of the surrounding historic cities. You will be spoiled for choice with such a diverse region to explore.
Just 3km up the hill from the cottage is a pretty medieval hamlet which has shops, traditional eateries and some great attractions to visit. Explore the winding streets on foot to soak up the atmosphere and make time to visit the fortress and towers which dominate the landscape of the area and offer some amazing views. Make sure to pick up some wine to take back to the house for the evening as the wine in the area is rather distinctive and made from unique Tuscan grapes.
With the Renaissance walled city of Lucca just 18km away and Pisa at 40km from the house, you have endless options for days out soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying sumptuous food in these fabulous cities. Both are filled with shops, churches and museums, and a guided tour is a great way to make the most of a day trip. The magnificent city of Florence can also be reached in just over an hour by car or take the train from one of the local village train stations.
A great place to visit for the day as a family is Villa Torrigiani which is a twenty-minute drive from the house. The villa offers something for everyone with stunning gardens and parkland for strolling and eating a picnic in the shade of the trees and a sixteenth-century villa filled with art, frescos and amazing interiors.
If you prefer a day by the water, then Massaciuccoli lake is 40km away and is packed with protected natural habitats to enjoy or, you could try the seaside town of Viareggio which is nearby if you are craving a gelato on the promenade or a dip in the sea.
