About this property
Villa Rethymno - Three Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 6
Nestled on the top of a small hill in the delightful resort of Sfakaki, just metres from the beach, Villa Rethymno enjoys three bedrooms, a smart living room, a kitchen diner, lots of balconies from where you can enjoy fabulous sea views and a swimming pool. It is ideal for families or a group of friends who are looking to relax, enjoy the fabulous local beaches, taste delicious traditional food, have easy access to the lively city of Rethymno and perhaps head into the countryside to visit ancient villages, monasteries and famous gorges.
Sfakaki enjoys a fabulous organised beach, charming tavernas, wonderful restaurants, a bakery selling all sorts of delicious treats, supermarkets and bars. It offers a bus service into Rethymno so you can head in for a delicious meal and a wander enjoying cocktails and chilled local wines without worrying about having to drive. In addition to the beautiful Sfakaki Beach which is home to many Caretta Caretta sea turtles, there are plenty of others within walking distance including Pirgos Beach, Eleven Beach, Adelianos Kampos Beach and Skaleta Beach. Holidays to Sfakaki are about relaxation, unwinding and embracing the authentic side of Crete. The village is surrounded by countryside where pine sprinkled hillsides rise as far as you can see. Ancient villages perch along the winding rural roads wrapped in vines and colourful flowers and Mount Ida stands majestically on the horizon. Charmed by the fragrant combination of wild herbs, oregano, oleanders, hollies and eucalyptus trees, you can visit the amazing Monastery Arsaniou. Rethymno is just fifteen minutes away with its sandy beaches, Venetian and Ottoman architecture, Byzantine churches, picturesque port, charming narrow cobbled streets lined with unique boutiques and shops and its wonderful dining scene. The beautiful beach resorts of Bali, Agia Galini and Plakias are all within easy reach of Villa Rethymno.
The villa is semi-detached. Its neighbour, Villa Sfakaki, enjoys the same configuration as Villa Rethmno and although they are attached, guests enjoy total privacy. If you wanted to take a holiday with another family we also feature Villa Sfakaki so you could book both villas and be next door to each other! The balconies and the pool and terrace of Villa Rethymno all face the sea. There is a long drive up to the villa which is beautifully kept. As you climb the steps to enter the villa, you are immediately welcomed by a stunning view of the sea which is only a few minutes’ walk from the front door. On your upper terrace you can enjoy cocktails while watching the sun go down and alfresco dining under the stars and twinkling lights.
In calm, neutral colours, the living room is cosy and stylish with a leather sofa and chairs as well as a flat screen television. Next door is the kitchen diner with all the appliances you need for a self-catering stay, a dining table and chairs and an additional sofa making it a very sociable space. A delightful twin bedroom is found on this level with comfy single beds and patio doors that lead to a balcony. There is also a family bathroom with both a bath and shower.
Upstairs you will discover two bedrooms, both with beautifully dressed double beds and access to balconies overlooking the magnifcent landscape of Rethymno and the sea. Here there is another family bathroom with a bath and shower.
The swimming pool terrace is surrounded with greenery to ensure privacy. The delightful pool enjoys loungers and a bistro table and stools. It is a great space just metres from the sandy beach.

Location:
The delightful Villa Rethymno is located in the tranquil village of Sfakaki, just fifteen minutes’ drive from Rethymno. It is a lovely resort which is very friendly and enjoys some good shops, a bakery, tavernas, cafes, bars and restaurants. The beach is wonderful with a long sweep of sand and lots of sun loungers and parasols. The beach is home to sea turtles that you might see if you are lucky. If you stick around for sunset or head up to your terraced balcony, you will be rewarded with brilliant sunsets that cast a dazzling red and orange glow across the sea. The village is surrounded by countryside and there are plenty of other beaches close by.
Rethymno is a wonderful city with beautiful architecture, much charm, a lively port and plenty of tourist amenities. You will pass by a fabulous helping of interesting shops and delicious restaurants to reach the Old Town that is crammed with ancient buildings. Whilst offering much to tourists, Rethymno has maintained its authentic Greek feel. You can head for the Venetian Fortezza to admire this amazing sand coloured citadel perched high above the shoreline and stroll among the fragrant pine trees that lead you past ornate chapels and churches. The architecture throughout Rethymno is very elegant and the port is bustling, lined with restaurants and bars. There are many boat trips that you can take.
If you head inland from Sfakaki, you will reach the 16th century Arkadi Monastery which stands alone on a plateau showcasing Baroque, Renaissance and Roman themes. The monastery is dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Saviour and the Saints Constantine and Helen. You can also visit the Monastery of Preveli or the Monastery of Arsaniou. The Ideon Cave, on the east side of Mount Ida, is also fascinating as according to mythology it is where Zeus grew up.
Plakias is another wonderfully popular resort. You can pass through the breathtaking Kourtaliotiko Gorge arriving at the idyllic stunning bay of Plakias with its brilliant blue sea. Plakias is a former fishing village and now offers some wonderful tavernas, restaurants and bars.
The Palace of Knossos is where according to legend, the foundations of the Bronze Age city were filled with an inescapable labyrinth that was guarded by a vicious minotaur. The master craftsman Daedalus built the labyrinth for the mythical King Minos. His son, Theseus, slew the minotaur and found his way out of the labyrinth with the help of Minos’ daughter, Ariadne, according to legend. The palace flourished during the Minoan period as the religious centre of Crete. Thanks to the archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans’ excavation and careful restoration, the Palace of Knossos is one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in Greece.
