Dam Square Apartment

The place was reasonable clean, but stunk badly. They tried to hide the smell with candles, but made it worse. The sheets, towels, bedding was cheap and also smelled. No paper towels, wash cloths, or coffee. Even the soap was poor. Couldn't wait to leave.

Great location

Loved the location. Communication could have been better prior. Had to ask for towels and a hair dryer. He accommodated quickly. Would stay there again since location is in the heart of Amsterdam. Crazy stairs up to unit, if you have climbing issues beware. Couch in living room is really a small futon but he did provide an air mattress. Probably best for only 2 people in unit or a small child with parents. Overall good!! Loved Amsterdam!!

Not the apartment we booked

This is NOT a review of the Burgwallen property, which we never saw. The owner was slow to contact us with the check in details, but when we finally got to the property we found it was a completely different apartment to the one we booked - it had been changed without any notification or consultation. The property where we found ourselves was one we would never have booked: there was no proper bathroom - just a shower cubicle in the lounge and a toilet (also in the lounge) which had no door. There was a hob with 2 gas rings, but not a single saucepan or pot in which to cook anything. We bought some eggs and had to throw them away because there was no way of cooking them. And although there were 6 vases, there was not a single cupboard or even a hook on which to hang clothes. We emailed the owner immediately (he was in Italy). His reply was that the accommodation had been changed because the apartment was bigger and it had a canal view. Yes, the location of the new apartment was excellent, but that is not the point: it was changed without our knowledge and the accommodation provided was sub-standard.
