A nature-lovers’ paradise
Wheelchair access in Tarns Cottage. Thompson Ground is a working hill farm in the heart of Lakeland, with panoramic country views. Visitors here will soon find that this wonderful area is filled with a profusion of things to see and pursuits to enjoy, from walking in the beautiful Grizedale Forest and on the Langdales, and going pony trekking, to participating in the water sports and launch trips on nearby Windermere and Coniston Water. However you choose to spend your time, any of these four cosy and comfortable cottages make an ideal holiday base to come back to. The Lake District itself hardly needs any introduction. In addition to the choice natural scenery, amongst some of England’s finest, there are also lots of interesting ‘man-made’ attractions to visit (some more publicised than others). Why not start with the picturesque village of Hawkshead, which is ½ mile away. Beatrix Potter’s former home, Hill Top (National Trust), lies near Sawrey, whilst The Wordsworth Museum in nearby Grasmere, occupies Dove Cottage, which the poet William Wordsworth made his home between 1799 and 1808. There are also many National Trust properties in the vicinity, from the magnificent Levens Hall to the tiny Old Bridge House at Ambleside. The cottages are attractively furnished and fully equipped, with sealed window units, a storm porch and Tarn Cottage (ref NP57) is specially designed for use by visitors with some degree of physical handicap and includes feature such as low level light switches, grab rails and a shower seat. Each has their own furnished patio area, and all have access to a front lawn, which is the ideal venue for children and adults to socialise and play. Locally there are plenty of pubs and restaurants, any of which are perfect for spending a relaxing evening in. Stabling for 2 horses is available on request.
