Horner’s Cottage is located along the upper harbour, with views over the water. Following the footpath along the harbour you will arrive in the heart of the old town in less than 10 minutes, passing popular fish and chip takeaways and friendly pubs along the way. You are in an ideal location for exploring this historical and scenic town of Whitby. There are stone steps leading you up to the cottage and being in an elevated position you may be tempted to sit out at the front on a sunny day, just watching the world pass by, with boats sailing out towards the sea, as well as the heritage steam train puffing its way into town across the other side of the river.
Inside you are welcomed into the first lounge, which has characterful wooden panelling. Double doors open to reveal your very own bar. This fun feature is sure to be a talking point, in the evening you can wind down with your favourite tipple whilst reflecting on the day’s events. Stairs lead you up to the first floor where you have the welcoming kitchen, which is well equipped for all your culinary needs. The second lounge is at the front of the property, it’s a cosy room with comfortable seating for three on a sofa and an armchair with an electric stove as well as a dining table in the window. This floor is complete with a shower room and utility room. Up on the second floor you have two bedrooms. The double with a huge window, giving you fabulous views over the town, harbour and cliff top.
Horner’s Cottage is opposite the ship building yard, where on occasion you will see new boats being launched. The golden sandy beach, the 199 steps leading up to the abbey and the Whale bone archway are just a few minutes’ walk away. The quaint narrow cobbled streets are lined with little shops filled with antiques, crafts and gifts, tea rooms, restaurants and inns. There is a heritage railway line where steam trains make their way from Whitby to Pickering along the scenic North York Moors Railway.
