About this property

Shallow End, Orford

Shallow End' is a fantastically well equipped hideaway for two. The accommodation boasts stunning views across the River Ore and is also located just off Orford Quay. There is a large garden that has a fantastic 'look-out' point making it possible to see across the famous Orford Ness and up the river.
Perfect place to relax and unwind whilst wandering the river banks! Very close to Snape Maltings so ideal for performers and spectators!

The hut is extremely comfortable, warm and well equipped with Wifi / Bluetooth speakers. The kitchen area is superb with oven / microwave / dishwasher / kettle and coffee machine.

Orford is the perfect place for anyone who wishes to get away from the hustle and bustle of day to day life and wishes to enjoy the peace and quiet of a village little changed over the years.

Orford is a beautiful spot offering a perfect base for walkers, cyclists, artists or those who wish to wander down to the river to watch the fishing boats go by! It lies within the Suffolk Coasts and Heaths Area of Outstanding Beauty.

Orford has an enchanting history, largely having grown since Henry II commissioned the popular Castle to be built in the 12th century. Once upon a time Orford was a bustling commercial and fishing port, however as Orfordness spit continued to grow it became harder for the boats to enter the estuary mouth, just 5 miles from Orford. The quay, whilst still used for smaller fishing craft and river tour boats, was built by the Normans, as was the stunning church in the village centre.

Orford has plenty to offer with regards to eating and drinking. It boasts two fabulous pubs, The Jolly Sailor and The Kings Head, as well as some superb restaurants, especially Pinney’s fish restaurant. One of our favourite places to go is to the Pump Street Bakery, which is world famous and offers especially delicious food and drink!

Orford has Tennis Courts and a Recreation Sports Ground with its own Clubhouse and children’s play area. Football is played on the Recreation Ground, which is also the site of the Annual Flower Show in August. Other sports and societies thrive including Bowls, Sailing and Badminton.

The village is 20 miles from Ipswich, 12 miles from both Woodbridge and Aldeburgh, and 5 miles from the famous Snape Maltings complex, popular for its magnificent Concert Hall and nearby Galleries and Shops. Orford and its immediate surrounding area are renowned for culture and good eating.

Guest access
Whilst the entire garden is available to guests, consideration is expected when the owners are in the main house - Shallow End also has it's own private part of the garden with a table and chairs to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.

Other things to note
Please don't be concerned about the hut being at all cold, it is very well insulated and has been completed to a high standard with good effective electric heating which is perfectly adequate for even the coldest of nights in winter!

Please note, should government restrictions come into force that don't allow you to travel we will issue a full refund and disregard the cancellation policy.

Lovely location right by the quay

The location of this property is great - right by the quay in Orford, with access to a lovely garden. The property is small but has everything you need and felt very cosy.

Perfectly Pint-sized!

Small but perfectly formed garden apartment. Clean, well equipped, quiet, comfortable and with the added bonus of the owner's two dogs - Poppet and Freddo - on hand to provide entertainment.

A little slice of heaven

We had such a lovely Easter break at Shallow End. The perfect place for peace and quiet. Judith & Mike were lovely too. Orford is a gorgeous area and we enjoyed walking and eating. Our dog had a great time too. We’ll definitely be back.

The Shallow End

It’s basically one room with a separate shower/toilet. Set in nice garden of private house next to the estuary. Excellent location. Warm. Quite clean but not completely clean. Modern interior. Very awkward negotiating the heavy flood gate every time we arrived and left. Not for the frail or those with mobility issues. No welcome milk or biscuits. No shampoo In shower. £70 extra for cleaning is excessive to say the least. Overall, a little expensive for the accommodation and the fixtures/kitchen utensils could have been better. Good position and fairly private.
