About this property

Pump Cottage (Sleeps 10) - a house that sleeps 10 guests in 5 bedrooms

For those of us lucky enough to have stumbled across Gwithian during our Cornish travels, we know that it’s a very special place indeed...and for those yet to discover its beauty; a truly magical experience awaits! Wild and unspoilt, Gwithian’s soft sandy stretch and wave-lined blue waters invite visitors to soak up a truly breath-taking beach holiday atmosphere while the nearby village with its charming atmosphere and countryside setting, is just the place to escape life’s busy agendas.

The main cottage is set over two floors and includes a spacious family bathroom along with four upstairs bedrooms, while downstairs there’s a light-filled and stylish living room with a log burner to keep the room cosy during cooler weather. The fifth bedroom or ‘Crab Shack’ is in the garden and has its own entrance, shower and coffee/tea-making facilities.

The home’s farmhouse-style kitchen features a cast iron cooking stove as well as a large dining table with views and access out to the gorgeous garden. Here you'll find plenty of lawn, a paved terrace, furniture and a BBQ which creates a lovely place for fresh air dining and relaxation in the sun. Guests who need to stay in touch with their businesses while on holiday will have the use of a purpose-built ground floor office space to work from.

Home to two surf schools that offer lessons and equipment hire, Gwithian is ideal for those wanting to either try out the sport or hone their skills. Low tide exposes an array of rock and sand pools which are perfect for little ones to explore, and miles of golden sand means grown-ups and children can run free or paddle in the shallows. Off the sand and up on the Towans, visitors can picnic or barbecue to their hearts’ content while taking in the superb views across Godrevy headland and lighthouse.

We ask our guests for a £200 good housekeeping bond, which is pre-authorised against your card. This is in case there is any damage to the property during your stay.

Pets: 2 Pets allowed. Please advise the Luxury Coastal team directly if you would like us to host your pet after completing your booking. A charge of £25 per pet per stay/week will be applicable and required before your stay. We will arrange and invoice with you directly upon booking confirmation.

The location of the property was perfect. An easy walk across the dunes to a lovely dog friendly beach and a nice pub in the village. Unfortunately the property didn’t meet expectations. It is very tired and needs some upgrading in the bathrooms and kitchen if they advertise that it sleeps 8-10. The kitchen equipment was sparse and old, chipped plates and bowls and one dirty chopping board etc with which to prepare meals for 8. The throws on the sofas and the rugs needed cleaning. The house in general smelt damp but the annexe we felt was unusable as it was particularly bad. On the plus side the beds were clean and comfortable. It wouldn’t take much time or money to provide the little touches that could make this cottage more appealing. It feels like the owners are relying on the location of the cottage to sell it but it could be so much more attractive with some time and attention. It felt very overpriced.

Disappointed
The property was in an ideal location. However it was not clean and required a deep clean. Pots pans all required washing before use. The majority were chipped and crazed. The iron had no fuse in we fixed it. The ironing board was unstable and dangerous. Main bedroom had a hole in the floor, the wardrobe handle came off and the door would not close. The bathroom door would not close. The annex was damp and required redecoration. This was not a luxury cottage and should be inspected before being relet.

10/10 Excellent

Excellent accommodation in amazing situation
We visited in Feb, and therefore did not benefit from great weather which you would want given how close this is to the beach, however the accommodation was excellent for this - ample room for wet weather, with a good number of well proportioned bedrooms so the house didn't feel overly full. Well stocked kitchen, great size dining room, really nice living room with a working stove. The main bathroom is rather tatty now - still clean and fully functional, but with all woodwork having seen better days... it could probably do with a refit, but then again given the amount of sand and seawater that will come in over summer holidays I think this is to be expected. The location of the property is excellent - a very short walk to amazing beaches, and an even shorter to the outstanding local pub. We are keen to revisit in summertime to take advantage of everything this amazing location and house provide.

8/10 Good

Pump Cottage
Pump cottage is in an excellent location by the beautiful dunes, church, beach and a pub. We had a wonderful time. We arrived after a long journey and the heating was not left on for us. The cottage and annexe were cold and both smelt of damp which was not very welcoming. There was no firewood left so we had to go out and buy some. We called the rental company to get the heating working, which they did quickly and kindly. They also bled the radiators. The property was cleanish but it was in need of a deep clean to get rid of cobwebs and mould on the windows. There was a lovely welcome pack to greet us.
