Town: This pleasant 700-year old market town stands on the north east end of the famed Wenlock Edge, in the heart of the magnificent Shropshire countryside. The town is known as the birthplace of the modern Olympics and its winding lanes are dotted with black and white half-timbered buildings, limestone cottages, specialty stores, and top-notch pubs and restaurants. Explore the fascinating Norman cathedral, the Old Gaol House, and the ruins of the majestic 12th-century priory. Wenlock Edge, which is around 15 miles long, rises above the town and is a great place to go walking, biking, or horseback riding because of the beautiful scenery. Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, and Ludlow are all magnificent mediaeval towns close by, as is the World Heritage Centre of Ironbridge with its nine museums and Blists Hill Victorian Village. Also nearby are the incredible Wroxeter Roman City and Stokesay Castle.
