About this property

Casa da Forxa is a renovated former forge/ smithy in lovely hamlet setting.

A place to disconnect and relax, in a beautiful rural environment with views of the hills of O Páramo and Paradela. There is always wildlife to look out for, the myriad of birds including buzzards, regular visits from hoopoes and black redstarts, and if you're lucky spotting a Roe Deer or Jabalí (wild boar). Step out the door and explore the local lanes on foot.
A short drive takes you to the lively and famous town of Portomarín, on the ancient route of the Camino de Santiago. So much history to discover and wonderful local food in local restaurants and bars, and areas of sport and activities next to the beautiful Río Miño. This is also where the famous Tarta De Santiago is produced and can be bought in its own little shop! The city of Lugo with all it has to offer and it’s complete Roman wall to walk is approximately 25 km away.
In the heat of summer the house is cool inside, but cozy in winter thanks to the comforting log burner that powers the central heating.
Enjoy a glass of local Ribera Sacra wine or a coffee on the enclosed patio. At night the stars are so clear due to the lack of local light pollution, so it always pays to look up with a pair of binoculars! Often you can hear the owl hooting as you go to sleep..

Disappointed

The listing said there was a dryer. There was none. We specifically picked the location because of the washer and dryer to wash and dry our hiking clothes. So we couldn't do that and we had no time to hang them and wait for them to dry. There were no pillow cases on the pillows. There was a scarcity of towels. Google maps could not find the prooerty and there were no instructions on how to get there from portomarin. Luckily a local guided us there by following his car. It is a beautiful home and quiet spot. Unfortunately it did not work for us and we left a day early wednesday morning.

About the host

Hosted by Manuel & Libby Rodriguez

Host profile image
Manuel is Gallego and Libby is English from NW England near Liverpool. We like to travel, and love to work in the garden. We decided to host because we wanted other people to discover the part of Spain which is Manuel’s family home which we love, and where we are always discovering new places ourselves.

Why they chose this property

Casa da Forxa is a family home of past generations which we have renovated over the years. It is in a traditional Gallego ‘aldea’. A country home, surrounded by lovely countryside, but not too far away from a bustling little hub(Portomarin).
