About this property

Gites Rue Du Chateau - four traditional French cottages

The cottages can accommodate up to 15 with, ideally, a maximum of 12 adults. Please contact us if you need flexibility on these numbers

Gites Rue Du Chateau is a complex of four French terraced cottages situated in the grounds of what was once part of the Old Chateau. Ideal for larger family and friends bookings, when you would like to have separate accommodation but be on the same site. Situated in two and half acres of peaceful, part walled gardens and woodland, with a small stream and ancient lavoir, outside kitchen with enclosed dining space and terrace, cosy fire pit corner and dining terraces overlooking gardens. We have a lovely above ground pool, 5m diameter, 1.2m deep; perfect for cooling down on a hot summers day. You will also have access to a boules area, BBQ, hammocks with plenty of space for garden games. Within walking distance of supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants, beer bar/warehouse and local market. Close to activity lakes and the Rejallant Canoeing Centre.

Described, in one of our reviews as, 'a beautiful place, with a fine balance between modern comfort and ancient charm', our cottages offer a little haven of tranquillity, a place where you will be able to relax, have fun and make those precious memories.

The site is gated with secure parking for up to four cars.

Bumblebee Cottage sleeps 3, one double and one single bedroom, bathroom with shower and additional downstairs WC. Direct access to terrace overlooking gardens. Electric heating.

Garden View Cottage sleeps up to 5/6. A large twin/double room, large double room with king size bed and adjoining dressing room, ideal for children, with day bed and could accommodate an extra Z bed for small child if needed. This room has a balcony over looking the gardens. Downstairs bathroom with shower, upstairs WC, large kitchen and large living space. Direct access to outside terrace overlooking gardens. Electric heating and two log burners.

Sunflower Cottage sleeps four, one double and one twin room. Upstairs bathroom with shower and downstairs WC, kitchen, dining room and sitting room. Access to terrace and lovely gardens through a communal laundry hall. Electric heating.

Lavender Cottage sleeps 4, large double bedroom with king size bed accessed via an adjoining twin room. This adjoining twin room would ideally be suited for two children. The twin room is an internal room with no external window but does have natural light coming from the large double room and form the adjacent landing skylight. Upstairs bathroom with luxury bath. Please note this cottage does NOT have a shower, but guests staying in this cottage could benefit from using a shower in one of the other gites if part of a group booking. Kitchen, large dining room and living space. Downstairs WC. The cottage has direct access onto a quiet street and access, through a communal laundry hall, to an outside terrace area and lovely gardens. Electric heating and cosy log stove.

All cottages have access to the communal laundry room and additional dining space, equipped with extra crockery and cooking equipment for larger groups.

We have two fold up/z beds for flexibility or if a bed is required on the ground floor for accessibility.

Anna and Ian live on site and will be available should you need anything. You will occasionally see us discreetly checking the pool, maintaining the grounds during your stay, arriving and leaving the site through shared driveway.

Lovely stay in the Charente region - Ruffec

Anna Lisa and Ian were two warm and lovely hosts who respond immediately to any questions and live just across the gites the rent, so very approachable nd closeby. All the gites were fully equipped, very clean and hygienic. A big pizza oven to use, swimming pool (work in progress), a plancha, nice garden and a small river running just a few steps away, ducks coming to visit once in a while, ... Shall I continue?

Wow

“Wow “was what I said when Ian showed us their Secret Garden, going in through a traditional iron gate, looking across a lovely open green space bordered by the stream and rustling trees, and a fire pit area, over past the swimming pool, shady apple trees, loungers over to the outdoor kitchen, and separate dining room (seats 10), patio with table and benches for 12 or more , 2 BBQs, fairy lights in every area, another fire pit and more grass behind for football practice. As the family arrived, everyone said wow, 12 of us in total aged from 74 to 2, and we all really enjoyed the huge range of amenity on offer in these gites. The lavoir was a great place to cool off as was the indoor dining area in the communal part of the gites. That seated 10 as well. We all had our own houses to retreat to and furnished patios. In the main courtyard there was another set of tables and benches for 12 or more, also with fairy lights for the evening. It was really hot when we were there, and we appreciated the army of fans for the bedrooms. We tested Anna and Ian with requests for travel cots, a bed made up in a living room to provide more single bedrooms, and endless other queries. They were endlessly good humored, generous and flexible. We spent most of our time splashing, lounging and learning to swim in the pool for several sessions a day, with early morning ambles into town past wildlife rich trout stream (kingfisher, coypu, and water snakes) to get croissants and baguette – the toddlers

Beautiful haven perfect for a group of families

We had a wonderful week in May at this collection of gites in Ruffec. The grounds are gorgeous with lots of games - we enjoyed badminton, petanque, table tennis and football - as well as the forest to explore and lots of hammocks to lounge around and take in the surroundings. The splash pool was out of action when we visited but Ian and Anna had arranged a temporary pool which was perfect for the children to play around and adults to cool down. Whilst each gite is separate, they share a communal space with indoor and outdoor tables so everyone can sit round together. The buildings have plenty of character with lots of lovely little touches whilst being fitted out with modern kitchens and bathrooms. Kitchens well-equipped, linen and towels provided and plenty of pool towels too. Nearby we explored the river at Aire de Rejallant, great for splashing about, swimming and dam building, with playground and sandpit adjacent. We also did the velo train at Confolens and Jardins d'Argentor, both good half days out. But mostly we just enjoyed being on-site and found there was enough to occupy our children ranging from 1 to 10. Ian and Anna were great hosts and really passionate about sharing their wonderful property with guests. Thank you both for a fantastic week!

Ian and I made the decision to change our lifestyle and relocate from Norfolk, England to France, in April 2022 and we are very much in the early days of establishing our home and holiday cottage rental business in the historic town of Ruffec. We have just completed our second successful year with a full house of 5 star reviews across our four cottages. I love live music and festivals and anything magical. I used to work in education, specifically in development of Early Years education. My partner, Ian, is a musician and we both worked in the public sector; together we have worked hard to use our past skills to build a beautiful and welcoming place for families and friends to spend time together.

Why they chose this property

Situated in the grounds of what was once part of the old Chateau estate, our cottages offer a little haven of tranquillity; a place where you will be able to relax and feel at one with nature and at the same time, have fun and make those precious memories.

We have four, re-styled, cosy French cottages available for holiday rental all year round. Especially ideal for larger family and friend's bookings, when you would like to have separate accommodation but be on the same site.
The two and half acres of walled gardens and woodland offer plenty of space for some privacy and includes a beautiful stream running through the old lavoir (former wash house), woodland path, pool, mini boules area, BBQ, outside kitchen and dining area, cosy fire pit corner and access to covered terraces.

Every day we now wake up to the sound of birdsong, running water and the toll of the local church bells in the distance. Surprisingly peaceful, but within walking distance of a restaurant, bistro, bakeries, shops, beer warehouse and a local market. You can choose to stay on site or venture out and take part in one of the many local activities on offer, including, the Rejallant canoeing centre, cycle paths, adventure parks, local lake activities or visit a Chateau.

Anna and Ian live on site and will be available should you need anything during your stay.
