Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Town: Sitting at the southern tip of the Rosneath Peninsula, Kilcreggan is host to a collection of impressive houses dating from the days when many wealthy Glasgow merchants had summer homes away from the city, and the popularity of the steamship allowed easy access from the southern shore of the Clyde estuary. The pier at Kilcreggan is the only remaining Victorian pier on the Clyde and is still in use, with a passenger ferry crossing the river to Gourock. There are a number of local shops and cafes in the village and also a few miles along the coast in Rosneath, while the nearby village of Cove is home to the spectacular Linn Botanic Gardens. The peninsula boasts spectacular mountain scenery with excellent woodland and coastal walking and cycling. There are several options for dining out on the peninsula, including the The Creggans Bar, with a larger selection in the Helensburgh area, including pubs, takeaways and cafes.
