About this property

A spacious and grand penthouse apartment with panoramic views across Mounts Bay

CHAPEL STREET RESIDENCE, PENZANCE

Right in the heart of Penzance’s most prestigious and historic street, Chapel Street Residence is a relaxed and very spacious penthouse apartment with wonderful panoramic sea views across Mount's Bay to the iconic St Michael's Mount and over towards Newlyn. Set across the entire top floor of a grand Georgian building this comfortable apartment offers space and a feeling of laid back elegance and simplicity in the décor and furnishings. Kick your shoes off at the door and it won’t take long to settle in and enjoy the homely comfort it offers.

The apartment is spacious and the large living room is a social space with three large sofas, perfect all year round to enjoy games with friends or family. The open plan dining area has a large wooden table seating up to eight. In the separate kitchen there is room to create a feast or a breakfast with family enjoying the built-in dining seating, again with more views to Mount’s Bay across Penzance harbour and the Abbey Basin. The three large light-filled bedrooms are hard to choose from and it will be more about which view you want to enjoy from them. The fourth bedroom is a single (with an extra pull out trundle bed on request) offering more views to St Michael’s Mount.

A few minutes’ walk and you can be in the heart of the town or to the seafront and the iconic Penzance promenade which stretches between the Jubilee Pool and Newlyn. The coastal footpath will lead you beyond towards Mousehole or Marazion. Along from Chapel Street Residence is a steep and cobbled street known as Abbey Slip and at the bottom an area of water known as the Abbey Basin, an area where at high tide it is perfect for a morning dip, walking the dog or a play on a paddle board. It’s a historic quay that has not changed very much over time.

An easy place to relax and unwind, to leave the car parked and enjoy so much by foot with everything you need nearby, great restaurants, the sea, great fishing towns, gardens, galleries, Penzance really is a thriving town and the gateway to enjoy further west Cornwall.

LOCATION

Located in the famous Chapel Street, right in the heart of the oldest part of Penzance, Chapel Street Residence is a short stroll to the harbour and seafront. The best local shops, galleries, bars, pubs and restaurants are right on your doorstep. The oldest pub in Penzance, The Turks Head, dating from 1233, is 100 metres down the street. Have a drink or a meal here and you’ll be stepping back in history, enjoying the same public house as pirates and smugglers did 750 years ago.

Penzance is the gateway to the Land’s End peninsula and in the far west of Cornwall nothing is far away. The fishing harbour of Newlyn is 20 minutes’ walk along the seafront promenade, and the quaint village of Mousehole is only a 10 minutes’ drive away. Marazion, with the famous St. Michael’s Mount, is easy to walk or drive to. St. Ives is easily reached using the scenic rail line from Penzance station. Sennen Cove, The Minack Theatre in Porthcurno, and The Cornish Mining World Heritage Site on the north coast, are all an easy drive away. Many film locations of Winston Graham’s Poldark books are in the area and part of the German TV Rosamunde Pilcher series was filmed in Chapel Street.

LIVING

The expansive living space flows from room to room. Enjoy views from the large windows over Penzance harbour and beyond while relaxing, watching a movie or gathering together to enjoy a board game. There are three comfortable sofas centered around a large coffee table and a feature fireplace in the living room.

As you reach the top of the stairs entering the apartment there’s a raised office area with a desk, chair and a book cabinet, an ideal place if the demands of work call whilst you are away.

COOKING & EATING

The well-equipped kitchen has all that you need to rustle up a delicious Cornish feast that you never find time for at home. There’s an electric oven with a 5-ring gas hob, upright fridge/freezer, coffee machine and even a Kitchen Aid for keen cooks and bakers.

Enjoy relaxed breakfasts at the breakfast table or extravagant dinners with great conversation in the dining area. The large dining table comfortably seats eight with sea views over Penzance harbour and opens up to the living room, creating a wonderfully social space for family dinners.

On that note – if you’d like a special event or any night of the week catered for do ask, we have some superb local contacts.

SLEEPING

Each of the four bedrooms has its own character all offering excellent mattresses and crisp white linen for a great night’s sleep.

Bedroom 1: An elegant king size bedroom with sea views and a full-length mirror. There’s a comfortable chair and bedside tables with lamps. The built-in wardrobe and a chest of drawers provide plenty of space for storing your possessions.
