About this property

Dezie Manor Orangerie and Gardens near Sarlat la Caneda

The Dezie Manor Orangerie has been lovingly restored with a high degree of attention to detail and striving to respect local traditions, crafts and materials all while adding the comfort and necessities you would come to expect of a modern house: walk in marble finished showers, fully fitted kitchen, heated pool and covered terrace next to the pool, a large garden perfectly kept by your gardener.

The Orangerie really is grand, airy and spacious, with exceptional open plan living areas featuring lovely stone features and openings. True to how houses were built centuries ago there is a cloister terrace, beautiful gothic style openings and surrounded by a beautiful private park. The heated pool is slightly detached from the main house, surrounded by a wooden deck and enclosed by beautiful lime stone walls.

Inside the Orangerie has an open space area with kitchen, dinning area, living room with a large 4k tv with an Apple TV. There is one en-suite upstairs, two downstairs and another en-suite beside the main entrance in it’s own room with a cathedral ceiling.

The Orangerie is part of the Dezie Manor estate and has no vis-avis with the other two villas that are on the property. Each house has total privacy.

We had a lovely stay with our family in this beautiful house. We enjoyed the beautiful garden to play family games, the game room was great and the pool too. Very peaceful and relaxing place. Grant was a great host.

Beautiful secluded property
The house is a beautiful traditional building. It is light and airy with huge windows. We really liked the big walk-in showers in all the en suite bathrooms. The bedrooms are all quite separate (with the exception of two rooms) which gave everyone their own space. The gardens, terrace and pool are totally stunning and easy to relax in for adults and children alike. We spent whole days by the pool swimming and sunbathing - it gets sunshine all afternoon and well into the evening. There's also a gorgeous terrace by the kitchen for shaded meals overlooking the gardens. The hammock was popular too! It is a very rural location - we saw deer, heard owls and spotted shooting stars in the clear night sky (but still had good WiFi!). Our hire cars were invaluable for exploring the nearby towns, markets (market days are busy but great fun!) and supermarkets, and we even went all the way to the river Dordogne one day for canoeing. The only down side to this property was that local restaurant choices were limited - it is not as commercial as Bergerac or areas nearer the Dordogne. Having said that we had great meals at Le Mouton Noir in Vergt and La Ferme Auberge de la Colline. Also we didn't find any local taxi firms, so we ate in several nights using the great BBQ and very good quality food available in the shops. In summary this was a very beautiful spot for a secluded holiday with our extended family.

Fantastic family holiday
We just spent two fabulous weeks at The Grange (2 adults, 3 teenagers and our dog). The property was fantastic. It looks just like the pictures with plenty of space for the 5 of us. The house stayed cool despite the high temperatures and we only needed to put the air conditioning on a couple of times. The pool and outside dining, relaxing area was one of the best we have ever stayed at. We spent many relaxing hours beside the pool enjoying the weather! The location, whilst rural, is only a short drive to the nearest town and perfectly placed to explore the local area. The Dordogne is beautiful and there is so much to do. Grant was a great host. Responsive and helpful. The pastries were a lovely surprise too - thank you. We had a brilliant holiday and hope to come back some day. Would definitely recommend Dezie Manor as a great place to stay.

Dezie Manor The Grange
We have been renting properties in France for 20 years. The Grange was absolutely superb and on reflection there was nothing that we would change. The outdoor living area was excellent with 3 day beds, big dining area and Weber BBq. The pool was lovely in the heat of August sunshine and the living area was of a high standard. The owner was very helpful, on hand when needed and nothing was any problem making suggestions for restaurants and even booking them. Everything had been carefully designed and we will definitely be returning.

We had a great week at the house. The pool was great and the perfect temperature. The outdoor lounge was incredible, and we spent many hours reading in its shade. The kitchen was everything we could hope for. Grant was so kind to bring us pastries and bread in the mornings to top it all off.

Paradise on earth - top location, property and host!
We traveled as a family with two children (12, 13y) and a dog. Grant was a fantastic host. He was always available (24/7) and made our wishes come true. He recommended restaurants, booked tables for us, gave us excellent sightseeing tips and even surprised with fresh strawberries from the region. Absolutely flexible with regard to check-in hour which was highly appreciated since we had a long journey (Germany-Italy-France). We stayed at 'La Grange', an extraordinary beautiful property, fully equipped, a wonderful kitchen, outside area with a large heated pool (~ 12x5m), huge garden (not completely fenced), table tennis, barbecue (Weber) and much more things. Top clean kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. Ideal conditions to feel like in heaven. There are several supermarkets nearby, we usually went to Vergt (~ 7km) where you find all what you need. There also a veterinary service in this small village. Grant provides you with all detailed information you need. Not to forget, one of our personal highlights was horse riding at 'La Franval', an absolute must. We went several times to this horse farm. Jean Paul and his wife were incredibly charming persons. Nature and surrounding (medieval villages) were simply fantastic! Dear Grant: thank you so much for this unforgettable week at 'La Grange'! We will be back for sure! A warm hug to Jean Paul and his wife, we miss them and their horses. (-:)

We would like to thank you all for your hospitality, your amazing kindness and your spectacular villa!  The Grange was amazing, the work you have put into making it a 5 star establishment has truly been one of our best holidays ever. We appriciate all your help and hard work and we look forward to coming back to see you all again in the near future!  Keep up the hard work, it is much appreciated and definitely worth it!  All the best, we can't wait to see you all again! Fabulous property!
My son and daughter in law stayed at the Cottage 5 years ago so we had a fairly clear idea of what we might expect from the accommodation. What we found at the Grange was a fully equipped, beautifully (and sympathetically) restored building with lovely outdoor space and wonderful views. The heated swimming pool was a great addition and many happy hours were spent splashing in it or lounging beside it. The steps into the pool made it very easy for our water confident 3 year old granddaughter to get in and out. In the end though what made out stay memorable was the helpfulness of the owners. Grant answered lots of questions pre- arrival and took the trouble to source and order a birthday cake on our behalf. During the week he responded promptly to minor queries and even came out during a thunderstorm with torrential rain to check we were OK. So all in all we had a fabulous week and would highly recommend a stay here. As a final note, if you get the opportunity, talk to Kiki about her work with the stonemason. It’s fascinating!

A wonderful relaxing holiday
The Grange at Dezie Manor is a superb house in which to spend a holiday. The 5 of us stayed there for a week at the end of June 2018 and were blessed with perfect weather. The house itself is spacious and well furnished with 3 double bedrooms each with their own en-suite shower. The garden and pool area are lovely and makes a beautiful place to sit and relax or to eat dinner when the weather is good. Grant was very welcoming on our arrival and responded to a couple of small queries very promptly. The house is in a rural setting, surrounded by lovely countryside. The small market town of Vergt where you can buy all you need is less than 10 minutes away by car. The larger towns such as Perigueux, Bergerac and Sarlat are within easy reach.

Luxury in a beautiful, rural location
We loved the outside area and spent some happy hours dining there, swimming and relaxing in the sun, taking in the magnificent view. The kitchen was excellent, so well equipped and when the weather was inclement the lounge comfortable and warm. The dogs loved the garden which although not enclosed was large enough and quiet enough not to be a problem Grant was very welcoming and responsive to our needs and easy to contact. Although rural the gite was very convenient for all services in Vergt and a great centre for exploring towns, villages and for us following long walks with our dog. All in all a great relaxing fortnight and would certainly want to return in the future.

2 wonderful holidays at Dezie Manor
We stayed in the Orangerie in June 2017 and then returned to stay in the Grange in April 2018. The houses were both well-appointed and very comfortable. The surrounding countryside is nice and quiet, with a small town (with butcher / baker / super market) 5 minutes by car and the larger city / town of Bergerac and perigueux ~30 minutes drive away. We had wonderful holidays on both occasions. Grant could not have been more helpful: he was always contactable if we had any questions and was always happy to help. We have 2 small children who were 5 and 3 on our second visit and both houses gave them plenty to keep them amused: large grounds, some animals (horses / chickens / friendly dog), a private swimming pool and kids’ games. I would also recommend them for older kids as both houses had table tennis and table football available. For activities in the area to keep everyone entertained, we’d really recommend: Chateau de Castelnaud, the gardens of marqueyssac; Sarlat on market day, Bergerac and the Aquarium du Perigord Noir. All of these were great for both children and adults. We would love to return again!!

Fabulous relaxing break at The Grange!
We stayed at The Grange late in August 2017. We had chosen to take a late flight to Bordeaux. Grant kindly met us at the neighbouring village. We were very tired from the journey and it was very late in the day when we arrived, so it was much appreciated when Grant met us and then took us to the property. The property and it's position is stunning. We have rented many properties through Owners Direct overs the last 10 years. The Grange was definitely one of the very best - if not, the best. All the facilities were great and thoroughly considered, to ensure that visitors were never left thinking "if only we had this or that". The Grange has it all. There was a fabulous pool, living accommodation and outside space with daybeds that were a major favourite - as we spent most of the days just reading, playing and swimming. Other favourites were the table tennis and vintage, french table football - brilliant and great fun! The whole place matched the photos - so you won't be disappointed. But for us, it was the total tranquility that The Grange offered. We have never had this before at any of the beautiful rentals that we have taken previously. The view out over the pool, the cottage-like garden surrounding the pool and the seating area around the pool were second to none. A great place to stay and just unwind. Thanks Grant

peace and tranquility in the dordogne
We stayed at the Grange summer 2017; for us a first time visit to France. We were looking for something quiet but also somewhere that had a lot of things going on reasonably close to where we were. A pool was a must and exclusivity in the sense of not having anyone else overlooking or bothering us top priority. We booked the Grange mainly because of the large pool. Grant has made an excellent impression with his website so the choice for us was pretty easy. Not only a pool but also modern comforts were important as was the location. The Grange is quite a spectacular building and the location is extraordinary. If your looking for nightlife, bars and a wild time, move on, this location is not for you, but as the website clearly shows if your looking for a relaxed holiday with the modern amenities as well as peace and quiet this is the place. The pool is heated and at the Grange a decent size to be able to swim in rather than just splash about. The Grange itself is equipped with a great kitchen and all the rooms adjoin each other in this rather impressive L shaped building. We spent a great deal of time exploring the local area. Our youngest daughter is horse mad so having 2 ponies onsite in the surrounding fields to fuss about was fantastic for her. Grant & Kiki really helped us finding stables close by where she could go riding so this was a dream holiday for her in that respect! Our eldest was looking more to explore the markets. Typical French each local town had one so we could go daily! Food and drink is superb in the area with many excellent restaurants at good prices within 1/2 hour's drive. The wine growing areas of St Emillion & Bordeaux are an hours drive and local Bergerac wineries are about 20 mins. A car is a must to get around but you have everything you need in the local town of Vergt. For us we enjoyed the peace and quiet in the evenings, enjoying a glass of wine by the poolside. Next year unfortunately the Grange is booked so we will be staying at the Cottage instead. 2019 will see us back at the Grange.

Gorgeous luxury!
We had our second stay in June and were a family of four (including two toddlers). We had a brilliant time at La Dezie, despite poor weather! Grant is the perfect host; there to greet us on arrival with a bottle of complimentary wine, and at the end of a phone if we needed him; otherwise totally discreet. The grange is stunning, furnished to a very high standard, hugely spacious and comfortable. The heated pool is fantastic and we loved the al fresco dining and lounging on the day beds in the roofed patio area. There is a good supermarket a 10min drive away along with a bakery. The area generally is fairly quiet, so most activities are at least 20min drive away but nevertheless I could not recommend La Dezie enough to anyone looking for a high end luxury break with total privacy and a stunning setting, for a very fair price.

Amongst the best that you'll find in the Dorbodge
We stayed at The Grange in August 2015 and yes, it’s as good, if not better than it looks. Within minutes of arriving Grant & Kiki made us feel extremely welcome and were on hand if we needed them throughout our stay. I unfortunately picked up a puncture to my car en route from the coast but within 5 minutes Grant had booked me an appointment at a local garage The quality of the conversions are second to none and it’s clear how much time and care has been taken by Grant over the last 11 years. The kitchen and bathrooms are to the very highest standards but with quirky touches at every turn. The 1960’s vintage table football proves to be a real winner too. Wonderful outdoor dining space around the heated pool makes it hard to drag yourself away and what isn’t apparent until you arrive is just how tranquil this location is. Perched on a hill with views across the sweeping countryside there’s no passing traffic to spoil the peace and quiet. Unlike other areas of the Dordogne the property is located far enough from the tourist traps to give you space but everything you’d want to see is only a short drive away. Vergt, the nearest town is a delight with a great weekly market on Friday whilst local villages of Saint Alvere and Cendrieux, as well as Les Eyzies are all well worth a visit. Having travelled extensively throughout France in the last 10 years this is by far the best all round property we’ve booked. I’m usually suspicious of really good websites but The Grange is actually better than anything you can view in a photo – style AND substance – highly recommended.
