About this property

Upper Beachgate - On the Beach.

Facing the ocean, Beachgate lies on the vibrant south coast in Hastings, just west of the popular Boardwalk. Approaching this charming architect-designed villa, you are amazed to discover it opens up into two large apartments, the upper a 3 bedroom en-suite, the lower, two bedrooms en-suite. Both are tastefully furnished, with spacious, open-plan living/dining areas that flow out onto large verandahs.

Steps from your door lies the ocean. There’s always the constant sound of the sea, an unforgettable view, and the gentle rustle of trade winds in the Coconut trees. You can sit on the wide stretch of beach, swim and snorkel in the protected lagoon (perfect for kids) or the more adventurous can surf or snorkel the barrier reef just beyond.

If sand and sea are not really your thing, relax and sip a drink by the pool which is shared by both units. Whether to unwind, go for a nearby adventure, treat your taste buds or explore local culture, Beachgate is perfectly suited. Most of our guests choose not to rent a car as everything is close by!

Step out onto the beach. Turn left and you can walk on the boardwalk to the spectacular Rockley beach, aka Accra beach, with its famous ultra fine white sand where locals and tourists mix. Turn right and stroll along the peaceful coast towards the famous Hil-ton beach. Back at Beachgate, you will take with you a lasting memory of the sun sinking into the horizon, and as you sit cocktail in hand, you may even see the elusive green flash.

For foodies:
There are three great dining choices on the boardwalk, Blakey’s, Tapas, and Naru with a half dozen others within walking distance. Also be sure to catch the Saturday farmer’s market opposite Blakey’s from 9AM to 1PM for your typical local Barbadian produce and crafts.

For shoppers:
It’s a short walk to Lanterns mall, a great stop for groceries and general supplies, a pharmacy, health food store, Haagen Das ice cream, and tasty local and foreign food alternatives for those looking for a quick meal.

For duty free shoppers:
There are duty free shops in Worthing, five minutes by local bus or take a ten minute ride to Bridgetown. On Broad Street you will find fine jewellery shops, Cave Shepherd, a large department store, and other shops. For a great local shopping experience visit bustling Swan Street.

For history buffs:
There’s the Hastings Historic District and storied Garrison area of Barbados. It is the location of the Old Colonial Officers Quarters and Army Hospital. The Savannah comprises the main military guard buildings, with beautiful Victorian architecture complete with a large collection of old cannons, the Barbados Turf Club (Horse Racing), the historical museum, and a vast open sports area for rugby, soccer, cricket, all surrounded by walking and running tracks.

Shared economy & Room rate levies:
These levies were introduced by the Government of Barbados with effect from August 1st, 2018. They are 10% of the booking fee plus US$4.375 per night and is collected on arrival at the villa.
We appreciate your support at this time and look forward to seeing you in Barbados.

Very delayed vacation
This was a very nice villa in Christ Church/ perfect location for us. Close to everything we needed in Barbados. Property managers were so nice and easy to work with. Our first visit to the Country and we landed there on their Independence Day- not convenient for them but everyone so accommodating. We had planned this in 2019, was cancelled in March of 2020 , and traveling Internationally right now is very challenging. The beautiful home was worth all the hassles of the trip.

A private oceanfront “Gem” and garden oasis!
Upperbeachgate offers comfort along with beautiful ocean views and outstanding sunsets! Snorkeling with turtles out front to walking the famous island boardwalk next door! Cool off in the private pool oasis or just relax and enjoy the shade of the lovely gardens poolside! Close to many great eateries and “happy hours”. Tina and Philip aim to provide for any request making your stay enjoyable and us returning guests!

A beautiful seaside paradise!
This was our first Barbados experience and it was wonderful! The villa is just beyond the beach boardwalk, with low walking traffic, and feels private and secure. The view from the porch onto the sea is beyond words: we spent a lot of time there relaxing and eating meals. Tina and Philip were very welcoming and made our stay very comfortable and relaxing. The private pool was a unique feature and was lovely for cooling off after being on the beach. We made more use of it than we expected! The property is well maintained, and the housekeepers and pool maintenance team were friendly and efficient. We are looking forward to returning next year!

Not our last time
My husband and I have been to Barbados 5 times now. Staying the 4th and 5th at Beachgate. We will definitely return here. Our first stay, we stayed in lower Beachgate for 10 days in 2014 with our 2 boys, then aged 4 and 8. Villa was better than expected. Tina and Phillip were great hosts, even helping to arrange a babysitter for us the one night when I was nervous about leaving the boys. Villa has everything you could possibly need, we cooked a lot of breakfast and lunches and ate out most nights with the kids. There is a convenience store walking distance where you can get the basics for groceries. Or the larger supermarket Massey Stores have a free shuttle back to your rental if you like. There are so many places/restaurants within walking distance for all budgets. The hammock outside the lower unit was amazing, we all had at least one nap here. This past March 2017 we celebrated my 40th birthday so brought back another couple this time and rented the upper unit. No Kids. It did not disappoint. Views are spectacular from the upper balcony, especially the sunsets. This trip, most days around noon there were turtles feeding in the water out front of the unit. Favourite restaurants in area are Tapa's for sure, and Just Grillin, across the street from Accra hotel. We hired a taxi for a day this time and highly recommend it. I think it was $120 usd for the 4 of us all day. He took us anywhere we wanted, out to Martins Bay for a fish fry and Bathsheba among other places. Go to Oistins on Friday nights. Public transport is so easy in Barbados there is really no need to rent a car. Can't wait to go back already.

Fantastic villa by the beach
Very spacious, very clean, 3 bedroom large living/dining area few steps away from a lovely beach. The balcony's view is unforgettable. We stayed in the upper villa for 10 days and we never got bored of the fantastic views to the sea. The villa is located at an excellent position to see the rest of the island if you have a car, although there are several restaurants and convenient shops nearby. Tina and Philip were fantastic hosts; always eager to help us with all our questions and requests. It was a dream holiday and would definitely stay there again.

Just ideal Everything you need for the perfect hol
5 Couples shared the whole villa and could not have been more happy with everything. we have been visiting Barbados for over 20yrs and this was to celebrate 2 couples 50th wedding Anniversaries. and we could not have chosen a better place. Tina and Philip gave us every assistance with our planning and were able to join us and friends and family on our day. The following week I took a bit of a fall and once again Tina was able to help with recommend a delightful Osteopath that came to the house and help me back on my feet again. We spent nearly 4 weeks at Beachgate and could have stayed much longer!

Sublime
All of our very high expectations were met with this holiday and especially Lower Beachgate. Tina and Phillip met us and gave us a very comprehensive hand over. All of our communication from inquiry to departure was very friendly and prompt. This is a most beautiful property in the very best position both on the island and with close proximity to the beach and boardwalk. We didn't really leave the surrounding area for the first 5 days as we just enjoyed the atmosphere this property provides. We never tired of the views. Sunset was simply stunning from the terrace and the perfectly placed palm trees providing the perfect vista. The property is both spacious and luxurious, with every appliance and convenience you could possibly need. The housekeepers were very friendly and appeared often. The pool guy seemed to come every morning (quietly going about his business). Some lovely restaurants near by, highly recommend Tapas on the boardwalk. Regular buses right outside the door. $2 anywhere. The supermarket is a short ride or taxi drive away (smaller mini-market near by). Supermarket prices were comparable to UK prices. We made good use of the huge gas BBQ on the terrace and actually only went out 3 nights out of 16. We just loved this holiday and that was particularly down to this beautiful accommodation. I would not hesitate to recommend this as the most perfect place to enjoy a very special holiday. Can't wait to return!

Wonderful place to stay!
Upper Beachgate is a fabulous place to stay. The property was beautiful, the kitchen well equipped and out hosts, Tina and Phil, were the best! Tina suggested a Catamaran cruise (which she kindly booked for us) and it was one of the best tours I've been on. The sun is strong in Barbados, so it was a treat to discover the pool is in the afternoon shade. It is also very easy to get around the island. We (6 of us) hired a cab for the day. The grocery stores are very accommodating and have courtesy shuttles back to your cottage. Staying at Upper Beachgate was everything we expected and more!

The absolute best place to stay in Barbados. Believe the pictures. The place is better still. Right on the water. People walk by on the beach and look up at us eating dinner, playing cards or just enjoying and you see on their faces they wish they had this place to stay. Very open and has everything you need. Went in the ocean and pool everyday. People on the island are great and the fresh seafood is outstanding. You can find so many ways to get around the island and exploring is fun. Great beaches close by and turtles in the water everyday. The house has everything and you won't be disappointed, Tina will make sure of that. Great people. We stayed 10 days and almost stayed another week. It is that good. Will go back. Worth the long trip from the west coast. Stay here. You will love it.

My family and I spent two wonderful weeks at Upper Beachgate in Feb this year (2014). We have a 2 year old who settled in immediately. The villa is large and airy and exactly how the pictures depict. It is very conveniently located with lots of bars, restaurants and a lovely farmer's market every Saturday. I can't recommend this villa enough just to say that I have already booked again for next year!

Great spot!
Six of us(3 couples) visited Upper Beachgate in June of this year and loved it. Tina and Philip are excellent, very attentive caretakers. The house is kept very clean and functional and the porch has a beautiful view. The water directly in front of the house is a little rocky, but there is a sandy lagoon in front of Swanage(next door). The porch has a big gas grill, so hop on the #11(the house is right on the route), head down to the Oistins Fish Market, and buy right off the boat Mahi Mahi for $3 US per pound. Marinate in a little Delish Bajan seasoning, and wash the whole thing down with a Banks. We also ate at the stalls at Oistins many times during our stay(our favorite is Uncle George's). Every stall has pretty good fish and 3 for $10($5 US) Banks beer. Also be sure to visit Coconut Court(a few doors down to the right) for happy hour. The drinks are cheap and Antonio is the best bartender on the island. There is a surf shop across the street that not only rents boards, but will also give you a ride over to a good break. There is a supermarket down the street(short van ride, but they have a courtesy shuttle that will bring you back) and also an iMart convenience store within walking distance that has a surprisingly good amount of food items. As stated before, the house is right on the #11 route(small white van with a purple-ish stripe down the side). Taxi's are very expensive on the island, so if you're not super high maintenance, jump on the #11. It goes back and forth along the South coast to and from Bridgetown, and is only $2 BDS to ride. Get cozy with some locals and enjoy the ride. We look forward to visiting again. Tina and Philip, thank you for everything!

Surf/Swim/Stay Paradise For All Generations
I keep dreaming about our stay in Barbados -- the gorgeous views from the veranda, the perfect swimming beach ocean alcove out front, the amazing sunset views, the pristine pool, and the best pina colada ever down the boardwalk. Add to that the fish fry, boardwalk restaurants (TAPAS), catamaran cruise, etc. My 70+ year old parents were in heaven, my 40+ surfer husband walked to a great break twice a day, my 11-13 kids went from pool to beach all day and I could relax and enjoy it all. Loved the food and proximity to everything. Loved the wonderfully appointed house and our very friendly and attentive hosts, Tina and Philip. Thank you!!! Can't wait to come back. - Wendy and Martin

Dream Property
Our family of four had more than enough space. The interior is bright and cheerful. We were worried about being so close to the street, but with the windows closed and the A/C on at night the only sound was the local church bell chiming at the top of the hour. The pool and grounds are well-kept. To get onto the property from the street or beach, a code is used to unlock the door, so it feels safer. Location is fabulous to get to the best beaches. The ocean and the Gap Boardwalk are steps away. We saw turtles in the water. The waves are such that snorkeling is a bit rough. Better at higher tides. We took several walks down to Rockley Beach to play in the waves and eat at the Tiki Bar. Renting a car we were able to see much more of the island (and get to the bigger grocery store). In the evening, we could drive over to St. Lawrence Gap for all of the restaurants and not worry about walking home in the dark. We also drove up to the Wildlife Refuge and St. Nicholas Abbey (loved both!). Stoutes Car Rental delivered the car to the house and was flexible when we asked for extra days. Tina and Philip were attentive knowledgeable hosts. We love this property and love Barbados!!!

Upper beach gate July 2012
We stayed at upper beach gate for a week amd were truly impressed. The house looks exactly like the pictures. There were 6 of us and we truly felt like we had our own space. The beach just outside your door was absolutely beautiful. We walked the board walk many times to Accra beach and had drinks at the side shore bar. We also had the pleasure of watching a turtle trying to nest directly on the beach in front of the house. One week was truly not enough time to do everything we wanted to and we were so sad to have to leave. If we return for another visit we will be sure to stay here. Thanks Tina for answering my many emails and giving me advice on where to eat and giving me the names of who to go to on the many activities we did. They were all great!

Upper Beachgate- Dec/Jan 2012
In our 5 trips to Barbados, staying in rental houses or resorts, Beachgate has become our favorite spot. The pictures on the site are accurate - it really is as beautiful as it looks on the internet! The rooms are spacious and we had plently of room for 4 adults and 2 children. The beach, literally a step outside your back gate, is uncrowded and great for a refreshing swim or snorkelling and is good for all ages as there are shallow areas as well as a deeper "swimming hole". If your looking for more waves or want to sit on a beach chair under an umbrella and sip rum punch, Rockley Accura Beach is only a scenic 10 to 15 minute walk down the boardwalk that follows the coast line. Also along the Boardwalk are lots of restaurants within easy walking distance. I give it a 10 out of 10 and would definately stay there again!
