About this property
Cosy family cottage close to Beddgelert and Porthmadog
Awel Y Grug fabulous detached house with enclosed gardens and parking. Situated in Nantmor just outside the ever-popular Beddgelert, ideal for a peaceful family holiday in the stunning Snowdonia National Park. Awel y Grug rests in its own grounds in the tiny village of Nantmor, close to Beddgelert and also Porthmadog.
A delightful, detached house set in an enclosed garden with a tiny stream running through it. The house has four bedrooms, three on the first floor; The large master bedroom with kingsize bed and ensuite shower room, a lovely twin bedroom and a snug bunk bedroom ideal for children. The fourth bedroom also has a kingsize bed and is on the ground floor along with the family bathroom (bath and separate shower) The spacious lounge with cosy log burner, smart TV, DVD player and views of the garden and surrounding wooded fields. The dining room is also on the ground floor, with plenty of space for all the family (highchair available), doors out to a gravelled seating area. There is also the modern, fully fitted kitchen with induction hob, dishwasher, fridge freezer and utility room with washing machine and additional WC. The facilities at Awel y Grug include a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, two TVs including a 55" Smart TV, a DVD player and garden furniture, and there is also Fibre broadband with speeds up to 150Mbps and 2 Alexa smart speakers. There is ample parking for at least four cars. Awel y Grug is dog-friendly and allows one dog to stay. The garden area for the cottage is fully enclosed by hedging and a fence. Bed linen and towels are provided, but guests are asked to please bring their own beach towels.
Nantmor is set in the heart of Snowdonia, near Beddgelert and Porthmadog. Beddgelert is a small, beautiful conservation village nestled below mountains at the confluence of the Glaslyn and Colwyn rivers. The village is bedecked with flowers, it is the winner of several Village in Bloom contests. It’s a great place for families to visit, with tea gardens, picnic spots and a wide range of walks, including wheelchair- and pushchair-friendly paths. It is also one of most noted historic places in all of North Wales, steeped in history and mythology. The easiest family-friendly walk is to Gelert’s Grave – the literal translation of the name ‘Beddgelert’ in English. During medieval times, Llywelyn ap Iorwerth, a Welsh prince, had a hunting lodge here. According to legend, he killed his faithful hound, Gelert, mistakenly thinking it had slaughtered his infant son – only to discover that the dog had in fact saved the child from a savage wolf. The Welsh Highland Steam Railway has a halt in the village where you can board the train for a trip to Porthmadog on the west coast or to the town of Caernarfon with its spectacular castle to the north. There are lovely walks available from the door out into the beautiful surrounding countryside or along the river to Beddgelert. In summer the near-by Osprey project is well-worth the visit. Beddgelert is within easy driving range to the mountains and the coast, especially Black Rock Sands, Portmeirion, and the Llŷn Peninsula.

About the host
Hosted by North Wales Holiday Cottages

North Wales Holiday Cottages is a holiday letting agency based in Deganwy, Conwy where we have been for over 50 years. Established in 1966, we are Wales' oldest independent holiday letting agency, so we are a name you can trust. We visit all of our properties to make sure standards are maintained and to familiarise ourselves with the houses so we can answer any questions you may have. Visit Wales, an independent government body, also inspects the properties and awards them a quality star grading. Each year we help thousands of people find somewhere to stay in North Wales and we'd love to find somewhere for you too.
