About this property
Chateau de Carsac with park and heated pool, perfect for families and groups.
Perfect for family holidays or groups of friends, Chateau de Carsac is an former wine chateau set in the heart of historic Dordogne, among rolling hills, vineyards and fortified towns. Set in beautiful parkland, with extensive gardens, terraces and a heated swimming pool, there's room for everyone to play, swim and relax.
The property sleeps fourteen. The main house has five bedrooms, there are two cottages in the grounds each with one bedroom. We can add extra beds or cots for small children.
Situated on the edge of the village of Carsac-de-Gurson, with views out over the valley below, the chateau is within easy reach of Bordeaux and Bergerac airports. The surrounding villages and countryside offer restaurants, markets and vineyards. 1km away, the Lac de Gurson has a beach, cafe, swimming and kayaking. St Emilion is 30 minutes away. Bordeaux, Perigueux, the Atlantic coast or the upper Dordogne all make wonderful day trips.
Chateau bedrooms
------------------------
The chateau has five bedrooms, all on the first floor. Two are en-suite, the others share a family bathroom. Folding beds or cots for children can be added to any of the chateau bedrooms.
The Tower room is the largest bedroom in the chateau, with a king size bed and ensuite bathroom with shower and bath. Bright and airy, the windows overlook the church of Carsac-de-Gurson on one side, and the chateau gardens on the other.
Overlooking the ancient church and the village of Carsac-de-Gurson beyond, the Church room has beautiful wooden floorboards, a feature fireplace, and en-suite bathroom as well as a king size bed.
Open the shutters in the Garden room, and the morning sun streams through the south facing windows that look out over the garden. There's a king size bed, and a connecting (but lockable) door to the Valley room.
Combining traditional French furniture, with contemporary linens and throws, the Valley is a lovely double bedroom with fabulous views. There is a connecting (but lockable) door to the Garden room.
The Village room is cheerful in yellow and blue, and with both double and single bed is great for kids, or for parents to stay in the same room as a younger child. It faces north, towards the church and mairie of the village.
Chateau downstairs
-------------------------
Downstairs in the chateau are two lounges - the Library and Sunroom - dining room, kitchen and a cloakroom.
With huge sofas, shelves full of books to read, and a wood-burning stove, the Library is cosy in winter, and naturally cool in the summer. We hope you won't have to work while you're at the chateau, but in case you do, the adjoining study in the base of the tower is the perfect place.
With double doors opening to the main terrace, the Sunroom brings the outside in. Large windows overlook the valley, there are sofas for lounging, a selection of board games, kids toys and a TV with UK freesat, French cable, a DVD player and selection of movies.
Perfect for getting everyone together for dinner when its too chilly to eat outside, the dining room seats ten in style. With a mixture of traditional fittings and contemporary touches, its a lovely place to linger over the cheeseboard.
The kitchen is fully equipped to take advantage of the amazing produce of the Dordogne. There's a range cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso machine, and a breakfast table seating six.
Chateau outdoors
-----------------------
Surrounded by a rose garden, with the stunning backdrop of the church of Carsac-de-Gurson, the 9x5m pool is heated, and open May to September. Relax with a book on the sun loungers, take a cooling dip, or splash around with pool toys and inflatables. Next to the pool, the loggia can seat twelve around a large table, and has gas and charcoal barbecues.
The chateau terrace enjoys stunning views over the valley, vineyards and the Chateau-de-Gurson. There's nowhere better to relax with an aperitif as the afternoon turns to evening. The terrace table seats ten, with a parasol to provide shade on the hottest days.
In front of the chateau, three lawns are bordered with herbs and flowering shrubs. Choose lounge chairs if someone already took prime spot in the hammock, or get involved in a game of pétanque, badminton or swing ball.
Outside the garden, six acres of grounds surround the chateau, containing an orchard, two lakes and several wildflower meadows. You can picnic, or look out for deer, coypu, waterbirds and uncountable butterflies. There's space for big family games, and quiet spots to sit and watch the sunset.
The orchard is one of the joys of life at Chateau de Carsac. From spring through to autumn there are fruits and nuts: plums, cherries, peaches, apricots, almonds, apples, pears, blackberries and figs. We invite you to pick whatever is ripe during your stay.
Ideal for families and fully equipped for babies and children with cots, high chairs and toys.
