Elegantly situated within fully enclosed grounds, surrounded by an undulating landscape of open countryside dotted with farmsteads and hamlets, Villa Gomes is a wonderful spot in which to enjoy a relaxing holiday. Combined with easy access to sandy beaches, traditional villages and towns, this truly is a delightful and convenient base from which to make the most of the Algarve’s many attractions.
Welcoming visitors as they enter, a traditional ‘calçada’ cobbled drive and parking area fringe the front and side of the house. Stepping inside you will find a contemporary, unfussy and roomy interior where the subtle décor, tasteful furnishings and cooling terracotta floor tiles combine to create a peaceful, calming ambience totally in harmony with the natural surroundings.
A cloakroom, large living/dining room, modern well equipped kitchen and an air conditioned double bedroom with en suite bathroom all lead off the entrance hall. In the living/dining area patio doors open directly onto a pergola-covered dining terrace that looks across to the large private swimming pool, south-east facing and perfectly positioned to catch the glorious sunshine.
Stairs lead up to the first floor and two further bedrooms; a principal en suite and a twin also en suite. Each bedroom again offers air conditioning and also has access onto a spacious sun terrace, ideal for some private sunbathing or perhaps an evening aperitif while admiring the distant ocean view as the sun gently sinks below the horizon.
Grounds of almost two acres house an abundance of trees and plants including palms, citrus, bougainvillea and various indigenous shrubs that provide vibrant splashes of colour. Look out for the thriving Medronheiro – a species of tree famous for producing the local speciality ‘medronho’ brandy. An in-built barbecue is conveniently located outside the kitchen and there is ample space in which to relax on the terrace and lawns that border the pool.
Close by, the pretty village of Estoi (2.5km) boasts a magnificent 19th Century rococo palace, now a beautifully converted hotel offering lovely gardens to explore and a restaurant with a fine reputation for the quality of its local cuisine. Heading south, the restaurants along Olhão sea front (10km) serve some of the freshest fish and seafood in the region and visitors will also enjoy the abundant local character and colour offered by the daily (Mon-Sat) morning market. This is also the place to take a short ferry ride across the estuary to some of the most gorgeous sandy beaches in Portugal.
Other easily accessed towns which include the Algarvean capital Faro (15km), Loule (17km) and Tavira (25km) all boast numerous places of interest including local handicraft shops and a wealth of excellent dining options.
