Outstanding Property and Would Definitely Book Again!
From the booking of the property a couple If months ago to the week running up to our stay the communication was incredible! On arrival we were greeted. The stay itself was more than we could have ever asked for. Celebrating my friends 30th with a large group of Friends 24 in total. This was a surprise weekend away and she was totally overwhelmed when she got driven up to the house. A short walk to the beach and club house, this was enjoyed by all on the Saturday and then a party out in the party room and in the shared garden in the evening. Thank you for letting us stay here it made the weekend!!!!

Incredible stay
The communication with the property manager was amazing and super accommodating. The house is situated in an ideal location, surrounded by fields but only 20 mins to the beach. There was plenty of space with an incredible garden. Would highly recommend for friends wanting to celebrate a birthday, we had the best time.

Birthday celebration
Whilst The Rectory was old and tired, and not as clean as it should have been, it would have been greatly improved with quality bed linen and towels. Unfortunately that was not the case. Small things like the lack of a promised welcome pack added to the disappointment. It was not as represented by the photographs or description.

Amazing house in a beautiful location! Would highly recommend staying here! Perfect for a large grou
We stayed here for myself and my twin brothers 30th Birthday and had a brilliant time. There were 22 of us and we hired the house and the cottage. The set up was perfect for us with the games room/party room and hot tub in the garden and no surrounding houses so no need to worry about being noisy! Beautiful view of Newport beach from the house and only a short walk into the town for a delicious dinner at the Golden Lion pub. The property was very clean and very comfortable and although a huge house with plenty of space for everyone feels very cosy! Cannot recommend enough staying here!

Couldn't recommend highly enough
We came as a group of 25 friends between 22 - 40 years of age, for 4 days over the New Year. We rented both the house and the cottage and it couldn't have been more perfect. The house itself is just gorgeous, with log burners, comfortable beds, really good showers and a decent kitchen that we made the best use of. There is so much character you can't help but fall completely in love with the place! The surroundings are beyond all expectations (we were exceptionally lucky with the weather for this time of year), with the beach being approximately a 20 minute walk/10 minute run which you can see from the garden, and behind the house you climb a stile and out into the roaming countryside and up a mountain. The coastal path is incredible - couldn't recommend that highly enough, and Newport itself (literally 500 yards down the road) is absolutely gorgeous, with good pubs, a Spar, a beautiful church and old castle as well. Being an active bunch we really made the most of our stay; surfing, paddle boarding, cycling, walking, running, circuit sessions in the garden, and the living room in the cottage was big enough to cosily accommodate us all for our movie night. The owner was incredibly helpful and kindly allowed us to place 2 hot tubs in the garden for our stay, which were set up and fully bath-able in on our arrival. I honestly couldn't recommend this place more. I have never been to Pembrokeshire before, but if I ever go back again, it will be for a much longer stay and in this beautiful house!

A home from home in a heavenly place.
The website was tempting. The reality was infinitely better. We felt completely at home in this rambling, comfortable home. We were welcomed by the owner and immediately helped to feel that the house and the attached cottage were our home for the week we were there. Any small queries and problems were dealt with at once. There were twenty one of us ranging in age from seventy one to one! The rooms housed us beautifully. Places to play and make a noise and places to be peaceful. A wonderful warm enormous utility room with masses of space to hang the inevitable damp clothes. Plenty of bathrooms, loos and showers with HOT water. Extremely comfortable beds. A games room with a pool table. Reliable wifi for the teenagers and stair gates for safety of toddlers. Hills and woods behind and the sea in front. The nearby town Newport, Pembs, a joy with hidden places to find. Don't miss the Parrog, the cliffs, the estuary, the beach, the dolls' house museum, the antique shop, the deli, the wonderful walks to the dolman, the climb up the smal,l child friendly mountain, through woods, past streams. Plenty to do for little children. Further afield in Cardigan teenagers loved their white water rafting. We will certainly return one day and would recommend it unresevedly.

great, comfortable house, well equipped, friendly owner
We had a great time at the old rectory. The house is spacious and warm, and the children loved the garden area. Some minor problems when everyone showered at the same time in the evenings, but mornings were fine. Owner very helpful. Be nice to have a chimnea for outside in the evenings, also a few more garden chairs to help us migrate around the various sun spots!

What a special week, despite the weather!
It was evening by the time we arrived, following the sat nav over hill and dale. It was not hard to find but well off the beaten track. First stop, get the dogs down the beach, they had been in the car for hours! How lovely it was. It was our 25th wedding anniversary and we wanted to have all our friends and family share that with us. The plan was we would rent both properties so that people could spread out and our pooches would not inconvenience any one. Good choice. Both properties were just lovely and fitted the bill perfectly. My husband doggies and I stayed in the Retreat Cottage and everyone else stayed in the Rectory. A stunning view from both buildings, even though the weather was sooo awful. We took full advantage of the wood burner and the very useful utility room (wet clothes no problematic the lovely toasty Arga). There was plenty of room for everyone 20+ And all rooms were very comfy with lovely views from them. The main bathroom was fun, a bit like a fairy grotto in the evening with candles. Each room was unique and quirky with a cozy style. ,I could ramble on for ages but what is pertinent here I guess is to say both properties were well maintained, good facilities, warm and cozy, clean and the owner very helpful. We particularly loved the Castle pub, very hospitable even with sodden dogs and macs. Food there was excellent, beer good fully recommend going there. The beach and surrounding walks spectacular. I would certainly recommend these properties to anyone. I Dont have to for our friends and family because they all came and are still talking about going back again! Let's hope there will be some space for us when we can get that together!

Combined birthday celebration
Absolutely brilliant. Despite the wind and the rain we had a brilliant weekend. The accommodation was first class we could not have wanted for anything more. There was plenty of room for everyone, all the equipment you would ever need. The town of Newport had a good selection of pubs and an excellent pizzeria. We thoroughly recommend this property for large groups and family gatherings.

Fabulous house, with amazing views
We are a group of ten who met on a five week trip to Peru in 2005. Our ages range from 37-76 (quite a difference) and yet we've met up every year since our trip to South America. We always look for a different location in the UK as we come from Cornwall, Birmingham, Hampshire, Sussex and Kent. This year we had a marvellous time at "The Old Rectory". Deanna was really helpful before we arrived and even booked an extra night for us after we had only originally booked for 3nts. The description of the property was just so, and the facilities inside were great. The fact that they are building another little en-suite on the 2nd floor can only enhance the property for larger groups...and don't forget the little shower room on the ground floor. The rooms are all lovely, clean and well maintained. It's just a great house, with a great garden for a large group, the views are just amazing. We felt right at home, which is important for us when we meet up....we even had the log burner going on the Monday which was fabulous and very cosy. Having travelled from across the UK we don't tend to use the local pubs/restaurants, however on the Sunday we did go to the "The Royal Oak" in Newport. On arrival we were a bit dubious but we had a good meal - this pub isn't flash, it's just a very local pub with pub food. As for trips out we went to Skomer Island on the Sunday - YEP we saw the puffins ! However if you are thinking of visiting you need to be at the ticket office for 0715am latest...there are only a few boats a day and limited visitor numbers, you can't buy tickets on-line or in advance. You gotta get up for this day out. We found this out after we'd driven the hour over to the ticket office on the Saturday only to be disappointed. So on the Sunday one of our group was up and out by 0545am to drive the hour over to get the tickets for the 1000am sailing. Take everything you need though, food, water, clothing, sunscreen...and enjoy the scene, birds and lot's of walking. As a group we would definitely recommend "The Old Rectory" - The Peru Gang.

Beautiful house, stunning views
We booked the Old Rectory and Cottage for our wedding in June this year. We had hoped to find somewhere large enough for family, with good views, but couldn't believe our luck when we visited The Old Rectory. This stunning historic house, with the cottage next door was full of charm. The beautiful rambling gardens are enhanced by spectacular views from one side of the mountain, and a dramatic seascape panorama on the other. After visiting the property and meeting Deanna, we felt immediately it was the perfect venue for our wedding. Family and close friends stayed in the two houses which worked brilliantly. We hired a vintage marquee for the event itself, which was allowed in the garden for a fee. The day was magical, and the house and garden perfect for our guests. The kitchens are both fully equipped, the garden has plenty of space for the kids, and most rooms have beautiful views of Newport Bay. When it got cold at night, the cosy living rooms with log fires made our older guests comfortable. We ended up staying on in the house for part of our honeymoon - it was so relaxing we couldn't leave! Deanna and her staff were so friendly and accommodating and did everything to make our stay perfect. We couldn't recommend the property enough, particularly for a wedding or large event. We hope to return one day.

Ideal for a large family gathering
The Old Rectory is the sort of large house that crops up in novels, but doesn't often turn up in reality. But here it is with captivating views all around. We stayed here as a party of eleven, and eat all our evening meals at the Rectory. There was excellent shopping both in Newport and in Fishguard and we all shared our skills in the kitchen. We travelled to see the puffins at Skomer Island, we drank beer in Bessie's wonderful pub. We walked both in the hills and along the coast. But above all we felt it was our home for a week. It is a long drive to get there, but once you arrive the stress of the journey dissolves very quickly. It deserves the highest recommendation.

Brilliant for larger groups.
Meant to post this nearer to our visit but better late . . . . We stayed in Sunny Retreat Cottage for one week then moved to the adjoining property, The Old Rectory, for week two as we were joined by 5 other families. My first night was spent with paper, pencil & a bottle of wine working out the logistics of who sleeps where. I managed to place 21 persons into 21 beds without a complaint! Our only disappointment was finding that the cottage had one double and two single rooms + a sofa bed, so we could not use the cottage bedrooms to accommodate couples as we had intended. Either it was not clear from the description or I read too much into the “3 bedrooms, sleeps 6” heading. Little things like that do not deter us so we moved into the Old Rectory where I slept on the floor of a single room (on a mattress) as my wife had bagged the bed. This way we were able accommodate all couples, families and their dogs (who slept in the utility room). There are goods plans on the website of all rooms in the Old Rectory; maybe one for the cottage would be helpful. Blessed by the sunshine, we never used the large dining table (except for breakfast) but had a lot of use of the magnificent slate top table & barbecue with spectacular views over Newport Sands. We went in the sea a couple of times & I have come to the conclusion that the Irish Sea never gets warm but we had a great time on the lovely beach at Pwllgwaelod (opposite direction from Newport) & the equally lovely Old Sailor’s pub behind the beach. Using both properties for a large group worked well, as people could have their privacy or be all together as they wished. The properties are very well equipped and, apart from the small oversight of forgetting to turn on the hot water for us after the property had been empty, there was ample hot water for all. The garden was magnificent and great for children to run around in. We were able to walk a footpath from the back of the property straight up onto Carningli Mountain (a must), crossing the interestingly named Ffordd Bedd Morris road on the way. Newport town is full of nice pubs and good eateries. Some a bit pricey if you’re thinking ‘holiday grub’ but it seems that Newport is becoming a centre for eating excellence. The Canteen is a welcome new addition specialising in homemade pizzas and burgers. We really enjoyed our stay at The Old rectory & were genuinely sorry to have to leave. Maybe we can get a big enough group together for a return visit.

Perfect holiday house
Twelve in a house can make for a hectic weekend. Not at the Old Rectory. The house was perfect. There was space for everyone all together and to find quiet spaces. It is well equipped with a properly kitted out kitchen, with loads for fridge space, which when catering for large numbers, you really appreciate. The beds were great with lovely linen. The table seated everyone comfortably. For us, that is what you want in a holiday home. Feeling so comfortable, and so welcomed was an added extra that I didn't expect but one that really made the holiday for us all. It is also in a great location, a short walk from the beach and the town. In short, whether a large family or a group of friends, I couldn't recommend this house more.

We loved this place!
I hired the Old Rectory and the Sunny Retreat for my wife’s 40th and it was perfect. We comfortably slept 18 and three dogs across the two adjoining buildings. The gardens are beautiful and the views are spectacular. We had a barbeque on the grounds (the local butcher T G Davies is well worth a visit if you’re thinking of doing the same) then sat around a camp fire and finished the evening with fireworks. The local beaches are perfect for a bit of kayaking and coasteering, and the walks around the area are beautiful. We had a lovely week. The owners were extremely accommodating, the properties are welcoming, comfortable and well equipped, and the Pembrokeshire is genuinely beautiful. I can not recommend this place enough. We loved it.

Terrific Staycation weekend
This was the second time we visited the Old Rectory. With 9 adults, 2 teenagers and two youngsters it was the perfect place. The property is fantastic, full of character, plenty of room for everyone and a terrific garden to relax, play and barbeque in, with fabulous views of the coast. Everything you need to cook meals for everyone, loads of storage space, and plenty of room to make a mess! The house was clean and well maintained, wood for the stove or barbeque was provided, and we picked damsons from the garden and made jam! Easy walking distance to Newport with its pubs and restaurants. Great beach. Would not hesitate to recommend but keep it quiet as we'd like to return soon!

Beautiful Place to Visit!
This was an incredible place for my family to visit. The land is beautiful and the houses have such character. The Cottage was my favorite with cute windows that overlooked the gardens. Thanks so much for all your help during our stay, making our vacation so easy. We hope to return sooner rather than later!
