The garden faces the afternoon sun, making this the ideal spot to sit out. Upstairs you have four fabulous double bedrooms to choose from, along with a family bathroom. Fern House provides a great opportunity to explore the glorious Heritage coastline nearby, as well as the surrounding North York Moors National Park. The village is quaint with a welcoming village pub, a cute café in the old schoolhouse and a small fish and chip shop.

For days out you will be spoilt for choice, with fabulous walking trails including the Cleveland Way which runs along the cliff tops, connecting the scenic villages and bays. Runswick Bay is around a 30-minute walk away, with a gorgeous golden beach. Further to the north you have the inspiring village of Staithes, Saltburn, which is a surfer’s paradise with a Victorian pier and tram, as well as the enormous beach at Redcar. In the south you have Sandsend where the waves dramatically crash over the sea wall at high tide. Whitby, which is bursting with history, draws guests from around the world, as well as the whimsical village of Robin Hood’s Bay, with a tangle of cobbled streets clinging to the cliff edge, with houses spilling right down to the waters edge.

Perhaps take the heritage steam train from Whitby on an adventure across the Esk Valley; there are some quaint villages to visit along the way. For those who love the water you can join a local surf school at Sandsend or Saltburn, or join a paddleboarding class in sheltered Runswick Bay. For history lovers there are a selection of museums in Whitby, as well as the nautical museum in Staithes and the mining museum in Skinningrove. Whitby Abbey and Guisborough Priory are both beautiful ruins which are picture perfect, enhanced perhaps by their frailty and that something so grand balances on the brink of existence. For children, you are within an hour from Flamingoland theme park and zoo, as well as having unbeatable traditional family fun on the beaches – exploring rockpools or having fun at one of the arcades. There is sure to be something to delight everyone, throughout all the seasons.
