About this property

Regency Elegance Combined With Modern Conveniences

Cloisters is a self-contained wing of a spacious Regency home with the benefits of modern conveniences. It has been newly refurbished for self-catering holiday lets. All the rooms are furnished with a pleasing mix of antiques and contemporary pieces for your comfort.
Having parked in the two allotted spaces there are stepping stones leading directly to the kitchen door which facilitates unloading cars and on-line food deliveries. The kitchen is well equipped with a range cooker, all electrical appliances and a walk in larder. Next to that is the breakfast room which seats 10 (or 12 if the two high chairs are added.) Next comes the utility area with tiled floor to a side door in the small turret where we keep the tennis rackets. This is a convenient entry for muddy boots, wet dogs and even bicycles if you prefer to store those inside rather than in the racks provided under the veranda. Next is the Utility Room with washing machine, separate dryer, additional fridge/freezer, iron and board, hoover, mops and brooms. Beside this is a butler's cupboard containing the high chairs. Moving into the carpeted area there is a downstairs w/c and two large rooms. The double aspect drawing room is perfect for gathering everyone together while those wanting to watch a different TV programme or play table football can slip next door to the games room.

Upstairs the skylight illuminates the large and airy landing where there is a desk with complimentary postcards of Cloisters and a two-seater sofa which is the best place to access Wi-Fi and Broadband. Leading from the landing are two master bedrooms, both with half-tester beds and en-suites. The pink and green en-suite has a shower over the bath, a toilet and a wash basin while the blue one has a walk-in shower and a toilet as the basin is in the bedroom (in true Edwardian fashion.) On the left corner of the landing is another w/c and a corridor leading to the atmospheric tiled Edwardian bathroom in the small turret featuring a free-standing roll-top bath, large wash basin and the original Regency glass window panes. Next to this is a twin room decorated, with children in mind, in a nautical theme with colourful bed linen and a dramatic red wall again with a wash basin in the corner. Finally the double aspect toile de jouy room also has extra wide twin beds. Both twin rooms share the large bathroom and separate w/c. The total number of full-sized beds is 8 but there are two 'day-beds' and/or two cots which can be set up in the larger rooms.

The house is set up for 10 in terms of seating, cutlery and crockery. We supply all cleaning materials including washing up liquid, hand soap, bin bags, recycling bags, paper towels, paper napkins, dish-washer tablets and washing powder. There is also a supply of tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper. Bed linen and towels are included except for cots. The New Forest District council supply bins for glass re-cycling too.

Family weekend
Great property, felt spacious, v comfy beds; beautiful garden and woods for the kids to explore. Tennis court was a big bonus. Very close to Lymington, 10 mins to beach, 5 mins to the Pig, so plenty to do nearby despite the weather being pretty rubbish when we were there!

Stunning venue
The most amazing venue, booked for my daughter’s hen weekend, the place was everything and more, grounds were stunning, everything we needed was at hand, even the pub just down the lane. Taxi drivers so friendly and helpful, was a magical weekend, thank you and can’t wait to return!

Wonderful summer break
We had a fantastic stay at Cloisters. The house is huge so our two families had plenty of space, and the kitchen was fully equipped. The garden is beautiful and we enjoyed playing tennis. We were also able to sit out on the veranda when it was raining. Perfect location too. Great holiday!

A beautiful home to celebrate in
What a beautiful house! Feel so lucky to have celebrated my dads 70th birthday here over NYE! Fantastic communication with the host who ensured the house was kept warm and who made sure we had cots and high chairs for the little ones too making packing that little bit lighter!

A slice of New Forest countryside
We had a wonderful week at Cloisters. Our 3-generation family all loved the property - the house was bursting with character, the gardens were beautiful for both adults and children to explore and the location was perfect for lovely walks and bike rides in the forest. Thank you Caroline for your attention and easy communication.

Brilliant Vacation Property
Our 50th wedding anniversary weekend, was made complete when we arrived at the property and found it was all the adverts cracked it up to be. We had an excellent time and the 10 of us had lots of laughs trying to play 5 a side tennis. The owner met us on arrival and was very friendly, and helpful in finding our way about the initial exploration of the property. all in all a very enjoyable experience.

Spacious house and grounds, great base for walks
We booked Cloisters for an annual get together of old school friends and it was perfect. Plenty of room for us all and the grounds surrounding the house are beautiful. It was easy to access the local area including Brockenhurst, Lymington and the New Forest by car. The owners were helpful and friendly, we knew that if we had any issues we would have been able to approach them easily. Their dog is lovely too - and well trained so will leave you alone if you're not a dog lover.

Beautiful house in lovely surroundings
We had a lovely stay and really enjoyed our weekend away. Communication with Caroline throughout was super easy and she was always on hand to help. The house and gardens are beautiful and the tennis court is an added bonus. The house is well equipped and we had everything we needed. The house is also situated in a beautiful location and we enjoyed a lovely walk through the forest to the local Pig Brewery which had a lovely selection of beers and pizzas! Thanks so much for a lovely stay!

Great place for a multi-generational family celebration!
We booked Cloisters to celebrate two 70th birthdays with our sons and grandchildren. Sadly one family could not come, but we enjoyed a terrific long weekend anyway. Friday supper was very good in the very local Red Lion, with a 6 year old and an 18 month old accommodated happily. Much of the New Forest was water-logged, so even with a sunny Saturday we enjoyed playing on the tennis court and with the table football rather than venturing out. Our chef arrived to cook our celebration dinner and the grandchildren settled easily to sleep. Such a relaxed way to wine and dine in comfort. The house and garden were big, welcoming, rambling and exciting for the children. We found it well equipped for everything we wanted to do. We were also grateful for a delayed check out which allowed our 18 month granddaughter to finish her nap, before we set out for Beaulieu on our way home. Thank you, Caroline, for a memorable weekend.

Large well equipped house
The house was well equipped and well furnished with some nice pieces. The soft furnishings look relatively new but the walls and bathrooms were tired. The house smelt of damp downstairs like some old properties.. We wanted to play tennis and were told that it was busy Saturday morning at 8.30. We therefore decided to play Sunday afternoon. However after 15 - 20 minutes a party of people came down from the house and told us we could be another 10 minutes. We felt very patronised at being watched and commented on whilst we played tennis. Our tennis playing had to fit round the needs of the other house when the cost of the property was expensive presumably because tennis was offered.

Spacious House in good location
Great large house in a good location adequately seats 10 at the table and living room. Well equipped kitchen. Unfortunately despite paying for heating the house took 48 hours to warm up and hence we had to delay our evening dinner party for my husbands 60th birthday because we couldn’t wear our dresses and had to keep our coats on and wear extra clothes to bed. As a consequence the house downstairs smells strongly of damp. I’m sure this is a great place in summer but not so good in winter. We felt that the house is old and tired and in need of refurbishment.

Great property, spacious and welcoming
Property was large enough to more than comfortably accommodate 10 adults, the tennis equipment left by the host was a great touch to make the most of the court on the grounds. Wifi was a bit tricky with poor signal but other than that the property was well equipped with suitable kitchenware and games/media.

Family gathering in the New Forest
Our week at Cloisters was a large gathering of the here and 'across the world' family. Cloisters, the house, was perfect for this as the space was more than adequate and the beds comfortable. The tennis court was much used made possible since the tennis racquets and balls were provided. The dogs had a good time exploring the bushes so everyone was happy. The sea was not far away for swimming and as it happened, the weather was perfect for entertaining. We all had the best week's holiday.

Our long weekend at Cloisters
Cloisters is a wonderful place to stay, and is set in beautiful grounds. I can't think of anything other than positives to say. The perfect base to explore the area. Caroline is a wonderful host who was on hand to make sure everything went smoothly. A fire pit would have been the icing on the cake.

Amazing house for a family get away
What a glorious house! Three generations and 4 different family units stayed in this property whilst we were at a big family party near by. We had a lovely time - the children ran around in the garden, the adults played tennis and soaked up the sun. I would recommend highly for the house, it's grounds and communication with the owner. All great.

About the host

Hosted by Caroline Wallrock

Host profile image
Charlie and I are antique dealers and we have four children, one of whom helped decorate and furnish this wing of the house. We've travelled widely and lived overseas but always return to this beautiful part of the world. We live in the other wing of the house and have been delighted to get to know so many of our guests and welcomed them back time and again. Cloisters has been visited by many extended families celebrating milestones from significant birthdays and anniversaries to the more traditional Christmas and New Year festivals. It has the advantage of two master bedrooms so is also ideal for two families sharing. For group holidays we have hosted walkers and cyclists, work colleague weekends and even several groups of well-behaved wedding guests preparing for the big day, although, sadly, we cannot cope with weddings themselves as there is insufficient parking and no flat land for a marquee.

Why they chose this property

Tweed House and Cloisters have a saucy history. Tweed House was built by Captain Symonds for his new bride Lucinde Touzi in 1815. They had met in the Caribbean as the result of incredible adventures. Captain Symonds rescued Lucinde from the siege of San Domingo, brought her back to England and married her once she came of age.

Later owners, the Moens, were kidnapped on their honeymoon in Sardinia. Mrs Moens was released and the people of Boldre chipped in to raise the ransom to free Mr. Moen. A few years later the Sardinian government realized that frequent kidnappings were bad for their emerging 'tourist' trade and so reimbursed the good citizens of Boldre. Unsure exactly who had donated the money they decided to build the village school with the returned ransom and the building, now a private home, has a stone plaque in the porch recording this amazing piece of local history.
