Two Stars for Noise. Four Stars for Value and Location.
If you are searching for peace and quiet, this is not your place. The trains are right next door and they sound their horns as they cross the street where the condo is located. Most train activity is between 8 am - 9 pm. Also this condo is in a complex with (five?) other units, so noise will vary depending on those occupants. (In our case, the World Cup was going on). I always travel with earplugs and a White Noise app. The heater works fine. I would not call this an air-conditioned place (I saw some portable units in closet but didn't attempt to figure out). There are ceiling fans throughout the unit and in the hottest months you will want to open windows in morning and evening; shut during mid-day. . On the positive side, I loved the location and the value. The price is lower than most Oceanside rentals to make up for the noise. Easy walk to the beach and some good restaurants (Start Fresh Café - huge breakfasts. Cups - excellent coffee, breakfast wraps, sandwiches and vibes. Local Tap House & Kitchen - beautiful fusion food and cocktails). Condo was well decorated and had most amenities needed. Carol, the owner, is very hands on and friendly. She's an amazing curbside gardener - and even gave me some cactus cuttings. The condo featured a nice enclosed downstairs front patio with barbeque/chairs/table and an upstairs narrow but functional lanai where I could people watch in the evening. Carol showed me a room where the tenants can borrow beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, etc. There is an outdoor shower to rinse off beach sand. I loved the huge shower in the unit. I appreciated having a complimentary laundry onsite as we were there a week. . Carol does own a couple dogs so that's a plus or minus depending on whether you're a dog person.

Nice, as described, but hot and noisy
We had a mixed stay, but it wasn't really the owner's fault. It was very hot and although there were plenty of fans, we were sticky and hot most of the time. There is no A/C; the portable one had to have been hooked up to the outside or something. The unit is very nicely furnished and the bathroom is great. The owner was very nice and made sure we had sleeping things for a 4th person. The train noise is excessive, as the apt. is next to a crossing, and the train has to honk every time they go by. It is very loud. The ocean is about a block away, but depending on the tide, there may or may not be sand. There are bicycles, boogie boards, umbrellas and chairs for you to borrow.

So bad we left early.
Many things were false in the description. It had one bathroom, not one and a half. The bed was a queen, not a king. The picture shows a sandy beach. There was no beach. The ocean was breaking directly onto the rocks. The description did warn us about the noise from the train, but we did not realize there was no air conditioning. It was either hot with the windows closed, or loud with them open. The train is right there, and blows the horn when it comes by. Our place wasn't ready at check-in time. Our host said the cleaning lady hadn't come yet, and she had been cleaning it herself. It was still dirty, and there was dog hair everywhere. There was a mouse trap on the couch. We paid for 5 nights, but left after 2 and went to La Jolla. Our host said she would reimburse us $200 for the discrepancies, but we have never gotten a refund. Leaving was a great decision and the trip got so much better at La Jolla.
