Seclusion, pease and quiet. Stunning scenery with 25 acres to yourself. Like a set from a cowboy movie the Adobe was built in the 1930's and at that time vintage timber from the 1800's was used in it's construction. The Palms restaurant is less than 2 miles away and only 12.5 to the eastern entrance to Joshua Tree National Park.

If you're looking to 'get away' from it all, this is the premier place to stay. Rustic accommodations that make you feel as if you're in another time in history. Desert living, the wild west, and gold mining come to mind. Visit "Pioneer Town" and hike the beautiful mountains in Joshua Tree. We had a wedding, Christmas Family Reunion and a baby reveal at the Ranch. Most memorable vacation in our families history! Note, this is not a 5 star luxury hotel...this is a 5 star get away!
This property is amazing. 25 acres of bliss. It’s close to the park entrance and not too far from the grocery stores. There’s really everything you need for a glorious dessert experience. It’s the perfect place to stay while in Joshua Tree!
The property is really unique, a really fun place to stay. Property owner was very responsive when we had glitches. We wanted a ‘dark sky’ location to see the Leonid meteor showers and just relax and read for the weekend. It is a quick 10 miles from some good local restaurants and hiking. Once we settled in and figured out our heating, lights, and stargazing spots, we were set! I recommend staying here.
The house is even better than the pictures show. Great sunsets on the top roof space. Everything we needed for our stay. Great meals outdoor. We even did skits on stage with the kids on the big stage and screen outside. Close to Joshua Tree and to town, yet away from it all.
We had a wonderful time at the Adobe. We had every expectation that it would be rustic and a real get away from the constant noise and bustle of home. We had some wonderful times stargazing on the roof, roasting marshmellows, eating breakfast on the porch and the kids loved running around the property. It is rustic and everything feels like we walked back 100 years, but exactly what we wanted. A short drive to Joshua tree, for day trips made this a plus!
This is truly an extraordinary place and experience, travel in time and total serenity.
We fell in love with the Adobe. It’s full of wonders. Every wall and corner of it is a history carefully created, collected and preserved. Loved the precious unique furniture and equestrian Western themed decorations. You will even find little local Saloon inside the house 😊
House is in a fantastic shape and very clean, very spacious and comfortable. The lot is huge, tons of adventures inside and outside the house. Son said it’s like staying in the museum.
Everyone loved the rooftop deck for watching sunsets and stargazing. Enjoyed bird watching, and meeting adorable visitors like rabbits and other small desert creatures.
But my personal highlight of the trip was getting up few hours before the family is awake, brew a cup of coffee or tea, grab a history book about 29 Palms homestead times, and enjoy total serenity and silence. I will miss those moments and remember them forever 😊
Location is as perfect as our vacation - about 10-15 min to Joshua Tree Park entrance, and about the same to the supermarket with great selection of everything. We never had awesomer oranges than those we bought in 29 Palms!
We are all in agreement that Adobe is the best that happened to us in the past couple of years. We already miss it and looking forward to return. Thank you Cary for sharing and for being such an amazing thoughtful and caring host!
This property is HUGE. Lots of cool things to look at and you can tell a lot of work was put into the overall rustic feel. The pictures on here barely do it justice. Be warned, there are little critters that like to hang out with you in the house. They are REALLY cute little shrews that somehow fit under the doors, so there isn't much you can do to keep them out. But they are harmless and just seem curious what you are up to.
Not sure if it is mentioned anywhere in the listing but there's also a really cool stairway that leads up to the roof where you can stargaze or enjoy the sunset. We will definitely come back when we get a chance. Thanks for the awesome stay Cary!
This property is rustic and charming and really does feel like the middle of nowhere. The kitchen was well equipped, including two coffee prep vehicles (very important to this reviewer!) We had fires in the burn barrel, and Cary had plenty of wood available. And the stars, oh the stars. I really wanted to be somewhere truly dark enough to see the stars and I was not disappointed... the sky was incredible and my favorite part.
The only things I would note for others - the property is on a huge lot, but the back of the lot does abut another property with a house where it sounded like construction was occurring. During our short stay, the folks at that property were quite loud - music and yelling - but they quieted down in the evening as it got cooler. I just say this to flag that if you were expecting to be in complete silence, you should set your expectations appropriately, (Oh, and you are within the sound range of the USMC base, so expect some noise from that too. We were hearing lots of munitions during the day, or what my husband, who was stationed there years ago, identified as tank fire. Who knew?)
The only other note, and this made no difference to us, the information provided about the property indicated that there was a TV in the house. If there was, I couldn't find it. :) We were more than happy to play records (Cary's collection is so fun - we ranged our listening from Van Halen to Lou Rawles - there is something for everyone.) If reading, listening to music, cooking and enjoying the stars are your jam, you will love this spot.
Finally, Cary is lovely and a very responsive host! Thank you for hosting us, we really enjoyed ourselves!
This experience was exactly what we needed. The sunrises and sunsets are amazing. It is rustic and fascinating. The history in that property makes it fun to explore. Perfect for covid vacationing.
Can’t say enough about Cary, he’s an incredible host that cares foremost about his guests and their trip. We stayed here over Thanksgiving with a couple of friends and had an incredible time. The property is fairly remote and big enough that you can enjoy the desert solitude. It’s also an easy drive to town and the park. We appreciate the history of the property and recommend everyone read the brief entry in the book on area adobes located in the living area. Would DEFINITELY stay here again!
The cottage is stacked with everything you need for comfort and fun. It feels like being transported onto an old Western movie set, with all modern conveniences intact. Surrounding areas are gorgeous, the views are to die for.
A relaxing step back in time. Rustic, but that's exactly what we were looking for. Owner is very nice and easy to communicate with. Not too far from Joshua Tree. Would rent again.
We spent 4 wonderful days on this rustic property. Plenty of room, comforts of home, great Wi-Fi and Verizon cell reception. Owner couldn't have been more accommodating and nice. On a clear night, there's no ambient light and you can see zillions of stars.
