About this property

Characterful stone cottage in its own fully enclosed garden. No neighbours!

Cutlar's Lodge is set in its own landscaped grounds in the heart of Orroland Estate which enjoys panoramic views over the Isle of Man and the Cumberland hills. It's nearest neighbouring property is about 3 minutes walk away. Cutlar's is just a stone's throw from the wild flower meadow and private loch with pavilion.

Many of our guests are couples who enjoy plenty of space and a special price for 2.

Cutlar's Lodge has 3 bedrooms, accommodating up to 6 people (1 double, 2 twins), within its unique and comfortable walls. A comfortable night's sleep is assured in top of the range Hypnos beds. There is a downstairs bedroom, next to the shared bathroom.

An open fire gives life to the sitting room with a kitchen modern yet in keeping with the traditional feel of the cottage. The kitchen window looks out over the wild flower meadow and a dishwasher ensures you will only spend a pleasant amount of time in this spot.

A separate dining room gives a feeling of space.

From the sun porch you'll be able to relax and enjoy views out over the Solway Firth down to the Lake District and Isle of Man. You are a stone's throw from the private loch with its quirky pavilion and it is about 15-minutes walk to the rocky seashore with expansive waters warmed by the Gulf Stream. There are rock pools to explore, waterfalls to discover and large flat rocks which make an excellent base for a picnic.

The cottage is set in its own fully enclosed garden with a barbecue and garden furniture. Do you have children? A simple games room with table tennis, pool table and TV/DVD, in addition to the enchanting grounds, awaits them.

Excellent break in wonderful location
We have just had a wonderful break staying in Cutlar’s Lodge. The house is in a fabulous location with stunning grounds to enjoy. There are nice walks including beaches and countryside on your door step. The Lodge is stylish, roomy and very comfortable. We hope to make a return next year. Faultless.

Wonderful stay in a magical place
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Orroland. The owners really have created a very special place that didn’t disappoint. The grounds are stunning with the lakes, wildflower meadows and tump. We spent a lovely evening in the boathouse with the log fire roaring, playing board games. The walk down through the woodlands to the shore was beautiful. We were so excited to discover the waterfall and, coming from Norfolk, to see a red squirrel on the shore! The house was spotlessly clean and had everything that we needed for a comfortable stay. The only improvement I could suggest is an additional toilet. We are a family of six and sometimes it was tricky with just the one bathroom. Thank you for a wonderful stay in possibly the prettiest part of Dumfries and Galloway! We hope to return soon.

Cottage in Wonderland!
We spent a week in May in Cutlar’s Lodge. The weather overall was kind which gave the estate something of an Edwardian summer feeling. Absolutely beautiful with a delicious hint of eccentricity! The cottage itself is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The location, as indicated, is exquisite and so peaceful. We spent a lot of time sitting watching swallows, martins and even a red squirrel. It was also delightful to stroll through the estate or down to the shore. It is a fine area for walking. There are plenty of maps and guides in the house. We did the local walks from the house (in the rain but green and lovely) round the point from Balcary Bay (spectacular) and up Screel Hill and Bengairn (strenuous!) Dundrennan Abbey is well worth a visit. Kirkcudbright is picturesque and relaxed and we can recommend the Selkirk Arms for dinner! The community shop at Auchencairn is well stocked and does a good coffee. A beautiful area and a perfect holiday cottage. Highly recommended!

Enjoyable
Enjoyable holiday in a beautiful part of the world. Our only comment, which I am sure the owners are aware of, is th lack of toilet facilities in the upper level.

Beautiful Location
My family and I loved our stay at Cutlar's lodge. The house is charming and comfortable. We enjoyed evenings by the fireplace. The grounds are attractively landscaped and maintained. The food shopping at local stores, as recommended by the hosts, was a big success, especially the community store in Auchencairn and Caterbirds in Castle Douglas. It was wonderful to be surrounded by views and a wide variety of walks. We went several times to the dramatic shoreline and the walk above the house. It was good central location for daytrips to Kirckudbright, Threave Gardens, and Caerlaverock Castle.

Lovely cottage in the countryside
Thank you so much for the stay in Cutlars lodge. It was a wonderful cottage in a beautiful location. We particularly enjoyed the access to the coastline. We had a problem with a wasp's nest which was sorted out exceptionally quickly- thank you! We would definitely visit again in the future.

Wonderful week in Orroland
We had a wonderful week in this magical place. There really is something for everyone here from the beautiful grounds to the comfortable accommodation. We had to make a few changes to our arrival time and Melinda and Sarah could not have been more helpful. The peace and tranquillity of this magical place are just what we needed after a really stressful time. highly recommended.

Peaceful holiday
We have enjoyed a September break in this lovely, peaceful place with artistic landscaped grounds that lead down to a dramatic coastline; it has much appeal for lovers of walks, nature and wildlife. The cottage is warm, spacious and comfortable, and many people, like us, return to holiday there again. It is alao a good base for exploring this unique area of Scotland.

A lovely holiday
What a superb location to relax and tour the area. There was a little welcome box with milk, cheese and biscuits and bowls and a towel for the dog. (He enjoyed the dog biscuits!) The grounds are amazing with a few places to walk directly from the cottage. We were blessed with reasonable weather and seeing red squirrels running around the enclosed garden was delightful. The cottage is comfortable with almost everything you need. We would definitely stay there again. Booking was efficient. Just one or two negatives. The cottage information file needs updating. Not all restaurants are still functioning. It would have been nice if someone could have seen us early on our stay to answer any questions, such as did we have access to the summerhouse on the shore which would have been good? There was no boat on the loch as it says in the information. To be out by 10:00am isn't easy, and another half hour or so would have been good. Packing up, taking the dog for a walk, having breakfast, stripping the beds and washing up so as not to leave anything in the dishwasher all takes time. We were up at 7 but were still 10 minutes late and the cleaner was waiting outside. However it is a special place and we would go back. If it were my cottage I might consider turning the front porch into an area to take off boots and hang wet coats, which tended to be a problem.

Beautiful
We loved every minute of our stay. A family of 5 (4 adults, 1 teenager) with 3 dogs. The enclosed garden and surrounding grounds were not only beautiful, they were ideal for us, especially having access to the beach. The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and homely (1 bathroom!) We enjoyed board games and playing pool. We made use of the bbq and even had the log fire on one chilly evening. We explored local towns and villages. Did the Balcary Bay circular walk (stunning) and another near Kirkcudbright.

Our second stay at Cutlar's Lodge.
This was our second stay at Cutlar's Lodge and the Estate was exactly as we remembered it. The cottage was cosy, clean and had everything we needed, including the large, secure garden. Loved watching the nesting House Martins! The grounds looked fantastic and we were lucky with exceptional weather during this stay. Our 2 young boys loved roaming around the Estate and walks down to the shore (as did the dog!). Had some great days out around Dumfries and Galloway - particularly memorable were the beach at Dhoon Bay and Alpaca trekking near Kirkcudbright. All round, a fantastic week!

Beautiful cottage and area
The instructions and final arrangements email from the owners were clear and helpful. We arrived at the cottage to find a lovely welcome pack not only for us, but also for the dogs - cheese, oatcakes and amazing local pickle for us, and blankets, treats, poo bags etc., for the dogs. The house is very clean, comfortable and spacious and well equipped. The grounds were amazing - the meadow is beautiful and we saw deer, hares and red squirrels. We loved the walk down to the beach too which was cool in the hot weather that we had. We would (and already have) recommended Orroland to our friends - a lovely place to stay and unwind. Thank you!

Magical
Magical, wonderful , inspirational . Orroland is a real hidden gem. The accommodation is clean and well equipped ( although a bread knife would have been handy for the utterly delicious sourdough purchased from the local store and from the farm shop at Loch Arthur ) . Wildflower meadow, a small loch , private beach , woodland interspersed with quirky installations , it is just fabulous. Location wise there is so much within an hours drive from secluded beaches to the Galloway Forest Park. The owners and staff were attentive and friendly. Special thanks to Sarah for her help. Very dog friendly , our lab had the time of his life. If you want to sit on social media all day, Orroland is not for you , phone signal weak and broadband slow , but the TV does connect to Netflix etc , but that is no you go there. We loved Orroland , relaxing and just perfect for us.

Fantastic stay at Orroland
We had a fantastic stay at Cutlars Lodge with two young children and our dog. The cottage was extremely well equipped, the beds comfy and the house was nice and warm. The setting is spectacular, we loved climbing the little hill, visiting the loch and wondering down to the rocky sea shore. The walks suggested from the lodge were manageable for a 3 year old and had some lovely views. We look forward to returning in the near future!
