Town: Once a busy ferry station for passengers arriving on the Isle of Skye, Kyleakin is now a peaceful fishing community with views of the mainland over a small body of water thanks to the Skye Bridge. Kyleakin is home to a thriving local business district, hotels, and the Bright Water Visitor Center, which honours the history and fauna of the area around Eilean Ban, where Gavin Maxwell, a well-known novelist and naturalist best remembered for his book "The Ring of Brightwater," formerly resided. The Skye Bridge now uses the Isle as a stepping stone. From Kyleakin, buses frequently travel over the bridge to the bustling community of Kyle of Lochalsh.
