Serene and majestic with oodles of old world charm, this superb medieval manor house stands like an elderly country gentleman amidst soaring walnut trees and grassy meadows. Its tall wooden gates lead the way into a delightful walled courtyard where the original open sided stable has been converted into a spacious covered barbecue area.
Behind this imposing façade lies a fascinating interior. Timber beams, low doorways, arched and vaulted ceilings, stone window seats and a traditional Catalan kitchen with large canopied fireplace are just some of the many ancient and charming features that showcase the different architectural elements that from the late 14th Century through to the Renaissance have bestowed upon this property the charming character it enjoys today.
Occupying the ground floor in what was once the ‘bodega’ is an atmospheric billiard/ sitting room and from the adjacent entrance hall stone steps provide access to an impressive dining room. Exuding grandeur with its solid wood cross beams and long oak dining table, this magnificent hall acts as central hub for the rest of the house with doors leading off it to the bedrooms, kitchen and living rooms.
The interior décor very much reflects the rich heritage of Mas Mascaró with period furniture, original oil paintings and rustic memorabilia creating an enticing, historical ambience to be relished by all who stay within its ancient stone walls.
Appealing and attractive, the outdoor areas are sure to be the focal point of your holiday. As well as the courtyard barbecue area the house also boasts a covered outdoor dining terrace which is conveniently located close to the kitchen and enjoys splendid views across grassland and a wooded copse towards the gated private pool area beyond.
Although tucked away in a truly rural setting surrounded by forests of cork oak, walnut, wild broom and rosemary, a 10 minute drive will take you to the bustling pottery town of La Bisbal (4.5 km) which enjoys all amenities, a selection of restaurants and a colourful Friday market. The wonderful, unspoilt beaches and coves of Llafranc, Tamariu and Aigua Blava are just a 35 minute drive away or alternatively the delightful Platja del Convent beach adjacent to the picturesque village of Sant Marti d'Empúries is a similar distance.
We mention for information only that the owners use a self-contained apartment which is discreetly attached to the guest accommodation. This is accessed via a separate entrance, the owners do not use any of the property facilities and your privacy is completely assured at all times. Property Licence No: HUTG 046103
