The Old Chapel - Luxury Cottages
At a glance
Converted church with church windows, high ceilings and pitch pine beams Idyllic Yorkshire Dales village location with stunning countryside views Can be booked with the cottage next door for larger groups with hot tub hire as an extra
About the property
Lovingly restored by its owner, this cottage is part of a former church and retains plenty of original character, while the decor is modern and fresh. Nestling in the typical Dales village of Carlton in Coverdale, the cottage has incredible views of the countryside. It provides a fantastic location to discover the Yorkshire Dales and beautiful walks can be explored in every direction. The village pub is a fantastic place to reward yourself with a hearty meal afterwards. The cottage is ideal for a family group with children, or friends who want to meet up and relax. For larger parties, you can also book The Reading House next door which comes with the option to book a hot tub as an extra.
The space
There's no mistaking you're in a lovely old building, thanks to the sympathetic renovation that has preserved the church windows, pitch pine beams and high ceilings. However, the decor is streamlined to provide a very soothing ambience.
Step through a solid pine door and into the entrance hall with a flagged floor and plenty of space to hang coats and store your walking boots.
Sink into the sumptuous, extra-large sofas in the spacious lounge and cosy up beside the modern wood burner for an evening watching a favourite programme or film on the Smart TV. If you can take your eyes off the views across the dale, that is.
The kitchen/dining room is the ideal space for socialising together and having fun. It has a farmhouse style with granite worktops but with a modern twist and incorporates a kitchen island with a couple of bar stools, as well as a dining table and chairs for six. Fully-fitted, the kitchen has an electric oven and hob, a built-in microwave, a fridge, a cafetiere and a dishwasher. There are also views of the dale and a wall-mounted Smart TV.
In addition, there is a utility area with a freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.
If you have teenagers in tow there is a small room with a TV, desk and chair that is ideal for them to play any gaming consoles that they bring with them. It works equally well as an office space, should you need to check in with work.
A downstairs cloakroom with WC completes the downstairs.
Upstairs, the landing is flooded with natural light from the skylights and there are three bedrooms. Each one has a king-size bed, two of which are zip and link so can be set up as two single beds on request if preferred. Each bedroom also has wardrobe and drawer space, as well as a TV. The master bedroom boasts original oak beams, church windows and an en-suite shower room. There is also a family bathroom with a bath and a separate shower.
Outside, to the front of the cottage, is a small patio with table and chairs, an ideal spot to enjoy outdoor dining and watch the sunset over the hills.
Need more space? Book this cottage with The Reading House next door. Together, the two cottages sleep up to 12 guests in 6 bedrooms and there's the option to hire a hot tub (in the garden at The Reading House).
