About this property

Charming 17th Century Cottage In Croscombe, Somerset

Situated in the heart of the ancient village of Croscombe Millview is just 100m from the village pub; no drink driving here.

The entrance hall to Millview with its beautiful old flagstones worn to a polish by generations of boots and shoes has a stone archway leading into the earlier section of the house dating from the very earliest years of the 17th century. Here, the stairs lead up to the first floor.
Sitting Room

The sitting room beyond has a welcoming log burning stove set into a huge inglenook fireplace. This fireplace houses a seven foot deep bread oven although now the door has been replaced by a beautiful stained glass window made by the owner showing the nearby Glastonbury Tor. Again, the floor is of ancient flagstones but here for comfort covered in part by a carpet. The sitting room is complete with digital LCD TV with DVD Player and comfortable seating for up to 6 people.

Dining Room
The adjacent dining room has a large table, easily seating 6 people. In this room there is an original glass fronted cupboard built into the wall, and a fireplace with a dressed stone surround. Under the window is a wooden chest with an assortment of board games.

Kitchen
The galley style kitchen is beautifully fitted with a full range of appliances, and is fully equipped to provide for up to 6 people. Leading from the kitchen is a small utility area with a washing machine, fridge freezer and a microwave.
Upstairs
There are two bedrooms on the first floor, one with a double bed and the other with a double and a single bed, both bedrooms have polished wood floors with rugs. The larger of these two bedrooms has an ornate cast iron fireplace set into the corner of the wall.
PLEASE NOTE We do not live locally so are unable to provide bed linen or towels,
duvets and pillows are of course supplied.

Bedroom 1 Bedroom 2

The bathroom is also on the first floor, and has a free standing roll top bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

Although the ceilings are high the doorways are not, you have been warned!

Garden
The pretty garden at the rear of the house is tranquil with only the chatter of jackdaws that congregate around the nearby church to intrude on the peace. The garden is mostly laid to lawn with flower beds and mature shrubs.

There is a gas powered BBQ and loungers provided together with a table, umbrella and chairs for al fresco dining.

Late summer in Somerset
MillView is a stone cottage on the main road between Wells and Shepton Mallet, in the attractive village of Croscombe. It is a great location to explore Somerset. The cottage is a very good size for a group of up to four visitors. The master bedroom is large, and being at the back of the property it is very quiet. Those of average or greater height will have to duck to go through the doorway to this bedroom. Also, there are a couple of small steps between rooms, as is typical of ancient cottages, so take not to trip! We had a lovely week of extended summer at MillView, and would recommend the property to others.

Lovely antique home
Well equipped and comfortable. Unfortunately, a health issue caused us to leave early. The town was small and charming. The church beautiful. Bell ringing and practice fun to hear. The local pub friendly and food good.

A very enjoyable stay. Lovely cottage. Very central for what we wanted to do. Would thoroughly recommend and also return. Left the loungers out in the garden. SORRY. Couldn't fault anything. Couldn't fault anything

What a gem of a place
We had the most delightful few days at Peter's house in Somerset. I don't think I was fully prepared for the welcoming ambiance and comfort this place offers. The most quirky property with such character, both layout and the fantastic decor. We would return in a heartbeat, the locals in the pub are very welcoming, the whole vibe is completely amazing and we feel like we'd love to return. Thanks Peter for providing the most wonderful property and accommodating our extra requirements. We intend to return x

Nice cottage in an authentic village
A very cute garden, an authentic cosy cottage in a lovely village. We stayed for 7 days in the house with 3 children. Very nice location for visiting Somerset. And very good communication with Peter, our host. But mind yours heads as the doors are very low...

Beautifully Restored Cottage
A beautifully restored 17th Century Cottage, well placed for all the sights of Northern Somerset. Lovely village with many, very hilly, walks. We could not fault the house- lovely to stay in a rented house with comfortable sofas and a terrific amount of good reading material. A definite ten out of ten- would certainly look to stay again when we are next in the area.

A fantastic family escape!
We decided on a fairly last minute break, during half term with the family. Mill View. What a find! Located in the beautiful, welcoming village of Croscombe, which is a stones throw from Shepton Mallet. The accommodation offers a spacious and quirky stay in this wonderful old building. Lovely and warm with effective central heating, very well equipped with a delightful enclosed garden. Located right on the Mendips there are many stunning walks afoot. Cheddar, Wookey and Longleat (to name a few) are all within a 30 minute drive. Lovely local pub just 100 yards from the front door too. Perfect! Great communication from the owner. Thanks again. We shall certainly be returning!

Lovely cottage full of character
We absolutely loved our stay in Millview for 5 nights in late October leading up to Halloween. As soon as you walk through the door it's like being transported back in time. The lovely stone floor and arched door leading to the sitting room with a huge fire place and log burner (which we didn't need to use as the central heating was more than sufficient). There was a good sized dining room to the front of the house. Full of character. The cottage had everything you would need. The kitchen was small but practical with all you need to self cater. The bedrooms were nice and large, but cozy at the same time, with plenty of storage. (My wife covered the creepy dolls on the sofa in the bedroom with a cushion😄). Nice bathroom with roll top bath and shower. Unfortunately we didn't get to use the garden but it was very well kept and would be lovely in the summer. The pub 2 minutes away was a bit too convenient and served great food. We had no trouble parking, either in the side road by the church or on the main road through the village. Millview is perfectly located for tourism in all directions. In the space on 5 days we visited Chedder, Wookey Hole, Bath (roman baths) Glastonbury, Weston-super-Mare and a few other places so by the evenings it was nice to go and sit in the pub and enjoy a good meal, before relaxing in front of the TV then a good night's sleep ready for the next days adventures. Would have no hesitation staying again any time off year.

5 day short stay in Somerset
Great! We had a lovely few days in this charming and very characterful cottage. Excellent communication with the hosts and easy access to the cottage. Lovely local pub with good food and friendly staff. Croscombe is a beautiful village ideally located for visiting Wells and Bath and we also managed a visit to Avebury. We would certainly recommend Meadowview.

Nice days in Somerset
Peter and Jeanne have a wonderful small cottage in Croscombe. We (family of five) very much enjoyed the stay. The cottage is fully equipped and has a very nice garden. Many thanks Peter for the uncomplicated way of getting in and also for the very attentive support during our stay! Kind regards, Jörg
