Beautiful Old Mill lovely refurbished - lovely location with beautiful views - very peaceful and relaxing. Property owner Sarah very pleasant and communicative. Hope to revisit soon
This place felt like home
comfortable and so much thought put into the amenities and its finished beauty
Way bigger than we thought with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Sarah was fantastic, had a lovely welcome basket for us
Peaceful and quiet place in the Irish countryside but with great places to eat nearby
amazing stay
thank you so much
The property has been beautifully renovated and is a comfortable and cosy retreat. The layout has been cleverly done to make it feel quite secluded despite being adjacent to the owners home. Almost every window looks out on the rolling Down countryside. We'd certain consider returning to this lovely property.
This beautifully decorated space offers you anything you could need during a longer stay. Fully equipped kitchen. Lovely bedroom with very comfortable bed. And the most stunning views on the surrounding hills and fields. Sarah was always available for any questions we had. Hopefully we can be back in the future. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

About the host
Hosted by Sarah
Hello and welcome to The Old Mill, we have been lucky enough to live in the area of outstanding natural beauty for 3 years now. Initially renovations were done in the main house before we turned our attention to the charismatic outbuilding, now known as The Old Mill. The accommodation consists of:
An open plan living area upstairs, including a kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge area
2 bedrooms downstairs - The master bedroom has a superking bed, the 2nd bedroom has 2 single beds
2 bathrooms - both with showers, the main bathroom downstairs has a free standing bath.
We are in a remote location and you will need a car. The Old Mill is tucked away up a private 1/4 mile driveway. The offers security, privacy and tranquilly. The nearest shop and restaurant are located at the Balloo crossroads 1.5 miles away.
Why they chose this property
The Old Mill is located 1.5 miles from Killinchy. Here you will find 2 local shops with fresh food and produce. There is also a cafe in the Spar serving coffee, snacks and cakes. Next door to the Spar is Balloo House, it is the only pub in Northern Ireland to be awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand. Also in Killinchy you have a beautiful gift shop called 'The Crafty Fox', they are an independent retailer who specialise in luxury gift ideas, homeware and fashion.
Another 1.5 miles further on will bring you to Whiterock and Strangford Lough. If you are after a more adventurous break the Strangford Lough Activity Centre is a quirky, experiential adventure centre. They offer a range of outdoor activities throughout NI. Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, SLAC specialise in both land and water sports on Strangford Lough, County Down, Northern Ireland. Join them on one of their Paddle Boarding, Kayaking, Canoeing or Boat Tours.
A small causeway will take you to Sketrick Island in Strangford Lough. Here you will find the ruins of Sketrick Castle and Daft Eddys. Daft Eddys is the most picturesque place to enjoy a meal, looking out onto the lough. There is also a coffee shop called Little Eddys.
What makes this property unique
We believe the history of the building to be a Windmill with attached Mill. The tunnel underneath looks to have provided water to the mill as well. We have absolutely fallen in love with this historic building and hope you do too. We are also a fantastic base to explore Northern Ireland, with Belfast only a 30 minute drive away and the stunning Mourne Mountains 45 minutes drive. We are lucky enough to have a spectacular view of the Mourne mountains from the garden on a clear day.
