About this property
Lovely Kent cottage with rural Medway views
Our small, cosy cottage is set in a rural location, next door to a livery stables, with beautiful views across fields towards the River Medway, yet just a five minute drive from Tonbridge town centre. Perfectly situated for visits to local attractions such as Leeds Castle, Hever Castle, Knole Park and Royal Tunbridge Wells to name but a few. Perfect for couples or a single visitor, the fully equipped 1-bed cottage is self-contained with outside patio area and parking (a car is recommended for your visit).
The cottage was converted from an outbuilding in 2018. It has an open plan living area with corner sofa, smart TV, bookcase, small dining table and chairs. The fully equipped kitchen has electric oven, gas hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, Nespresso machine dishwasher and under-counter fridge with small freezer compartment. There is also a small blender and an electric grill for toasting sandwiches, etc. There is underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. The downstairs bathroom has a large shower, toilet, small hand basin and heated towel rail. A separate utility area off the bathroom houses a Bosch washer-dryer, boiler, iron, ironing board, laundry basket, pegs and clothes airer. There is an area for hanging coats and a shoe storage unit by the entrance. Upstairs is the spacious loft-style bedroom with double bed and comfy Emma mattress, side tables, dressing table and chest of drawers. Egyptian cotton bed linen and towels are provided, as well as waffle dressing gowns. There is a hair dryer in the dressing table drawer. There is plentiful cupboard and wardrobe space on the landing. There is a wide selection of books, games and CDs. Outside is a patio area with table and chairs which backs directly onto our garden. There are lovely walks locally across fields and down to the river Medway.
The Cottage is best accessed by car. There is space for you to park directly beside the cottage on the concreted area just in front of the farmyard gate. Should you be travelling by public transport, Tonbridge Station is located at the south end of the town, 1.5 miles away and there is a bus stop a short 5 minute walk from The Cottage with services into Tonbridge town centre, to Tonbridge Wells or to Maidstone. We will normally be here to welcome you and hand over the keys, but if for any reason we are away, there is a secure coded key box on the property to allow you to let yourself in.
The cottage is small, so best suited to couples or single guests rather than families, however we do have an additional inflatable single bed available. The cottage is not equipped for young children and I’m afraid we do not allow dogs or other pets.

About the host
Hosted by Mary Donald

I am a classical musicians’ agent living in Kent, married to Angus, a historical novelist, and we have two children, Emma and Robin. In 2018, we converted our outhouse into a small one-bedroom cottage and are now delighted to offer it as a holiday let or for longer term rentals. We live on the edge of Tonbridge, in a rural location but very close to the town centre.
Why they chose this property
Our cottage is perfectly situated for visits to the many nearby attractions such as historic Tonbridge Castle, Leeds Castle, Hever Castle, Penshurst Place, Knole Park and Royal Tunbridge Wells, not to mention Kent's numerous National Trust properties. The cottage is also close to many walking and cycling routes, perfect for exploring the scenic River Medway and surrounding countryside.
A car is recommended for your visit, however, should you be travelling by public transport, Tonbridge Station is located at the south end of the town, 1.5 miles away and there is a bus stop a short 5 minute walk from The Cottage with services into Tonbridge town centre, to Tonbridge Wells or to Maidstone.
What makes this property unique
The Cottage is finished to a high spec, a real home from home, with everything you could need for a quiet, relaxing stay surrounded by beautiful countryside but just a stone's throw from the town and its great transport links. I have tried to provide my guests with everything I would hope for myself in a holiday rental. And I am almost always available should you need any help or advice during your stay.
