The Neighborhood:
The village of High Hawsker is located roughly half-way between the seaside town of Whitby and the coastal village of Robin Hood’s Bay. In High Hawsker, you’ll find easy access to the Cinder Track walking and cycling path which runs from Whitby all the way through to Scarborough via Robin Hood’s Bay.
The popular Hare & Hounds pub can be found just a few doors down from Atlanta Cottage. Head here to enjoy a good pint or a delicious meal.
In Whitby you’ll be able to revel in the nostalgic seaside charm - head to the arcades or explore the beautiful, blue flag West Cliff Beach which is lined with idyllic beach huts.
Venture over the swing bridge and you’ll reach the East bank. This side of Whitby is full of narrow, medieval streets dotted with boutiques, pubs and fish restaurants. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.
Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.
A truly wonderful place for adults and children alike, Robin Hood’s Bay has a beautiful beach full of fossils, cobbled streets full of shops to explore, characterful winding alleyways and a whole host of places to eat and drink, there really is something for everyone.
Getting Around:
A bus stop can be found outside Atlanta Cottage, one on each side of the road. Hop on the X93 or X94 to visit Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough in one direction, and Whitby, Guisborough and Middlesbrough in the other.
The closest train station can be found in Whitby where you’ll have direct access to Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Sunderland and Newcastle, along with villages throughout the Esk Valley. Also operating from Whitby train station is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway where you can take a trip back to the past and enjoy a steam train ride through to Pickering.
There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.
