About this property

Historic lakeside villa with kayaks, close to ski resorts

Refurbished historic house in the idyllic Swedish lake district. Secluded but well-connected, with private access to the lake. Perfect for large family getaways, groups of friends, and peaceful romantic breaks immersed in nature.

In summer, you can barbecue and eat outdoors, swim, kayak, hike, forage, fish, and cycle. Use our 9 kayaks, rowing boat, and lifevests.

In winter, ski at family-friendly local resorts Säfsen and Romme, and get cosy by the fire.

The space:
This historic building once housed seven families of charcoal makers, hence its name, the charcoal barracks (Kolakasern). It is newly refurbished and modernised, and has a wood-burning stove, balcony, and beautiful view of the lake. Plenty of windows make the space bright and airy throughout. The house offers privacy, with no neighbours visible. Activities are easy to access, and the nearest shop and petrol station is in Sunnansjö, a 10 minute drive.

The house is split into three flats, which each have their own kitchen and toilet.

The upstairs flat sleeps 7. It has a large dining area where everyone can sit together, large balcony, Apple TV, wood-burning stove, kitchen, living room, playroom with a spare bed, three bedrooms, toilet, and shower.

The downstairs flat sleeps 8. It has a deck area, Apple TV, kitchen, living room, two bedrooms, toilet, and shower.

The studio flat sleeps 2. It has a bedroom, kitchenette, and toilet.

Guest access:
You can access the whole house except for locked storage areas. You can access the garage for beach and garden accessories. At your own risk, you can use the kayaks, rowing boat, lifejackets and garden games.

Other things to note:
We don't charge a cleaning fee. Instead, we kindly ask that you clean and tidy at the end of your stay - see the house manual for details. Please recycle - see the house manual.

Great for big families
The house is very spacious and the place is really lovely with a big garden and just a short walk to the lake. The house had all the amenities so you don't have to bring anything. Our family really enjoyed staying there.

Winterwonderland

Great stay in lovely house
We stayed in the house for a week in August with our family (9 adults, 6 children and 1 baby in total) and enjoyed it a lot. The house is beautiful and spacious, great lake view, nice beds and well-equiped kitchen. The communication with the owner was smooth. One minor downside was that there are only 2 showers. We would definately recommend it to other large groups.

We’re a family from London who fell in love with the Swedish countryside and love to share the typical Swedish experience with guests.

What makes this property unique

Three separate flats for multiple families to have privacy, a large dining area for everyone to have dinner together if they wish. Stunning private, lakeside location with kayaks in summer, and quick access to great family-friendly ski resorts in summer. It feels secluded and private, but all the shops and amenities you need are very close.
