Salcombe is a historic fishing and sailing town that has become famous as a holiday destination because of its natural beauty and its local charm. Blessed with more beaches than you can visit in a week, a jaw-dropping estuary and magnificent walks along the South West Coast Path, it’s also filled with local traditions. For example, there’s the Town Regatta, excellent sailing opportunities and an ice cream factory. There is also the Salcombe Gin Distillery, which has a bar overlooking the water serving Gin cocktails as well as excellent coffees. You can’t leave without sampling the town’s unparalleled clotted cream fudge, visiting the magnificent bakery and restaurants such as The Crabshed and The Winking Prawn, which have practically become a rite of passage for visitors. Salcombe is home to a number of sandy beaches, including North Sands, South Sands and East Portlemouth, all of which can be accessed on foot or by passenger ferry at the bottom of the lane.
