About this property
Cottage with Seaview near the Lakes National Park
Summary:
Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. Our Little Blue House is located at the start of the Coast to Coast walk, complete with cosy wood burning stove for a relaxing break, outdoor adventure or activity based family trip.
We have beautiful sea views from the property, with a 10min stroll to wide sandy beach.
This cottage is perfect for exploring the historic towns & villages, the western Lake District National Park, wild swimming, Cumbria Coastal Path & the Coast to Coast Trail.
The Space:
The front door opens into a cosy sitting room with wood-burning stove, 3-seater sofa and arm chair.
Walk through to the well-equipped dining kitchen, with sliding glass door to garden and fabulous sea views towards the Isle of Man.
The dedicated workspace is the kitchen table, which is great to work from and have beautiful views of the sea.
Upstairs (steep stairs with no bannister!) there is a landing with books which you are welcome to read, but please don’t take away.
The front bedroom has a standard double bed (king size duvet) and quality linen with a chest of drawers as clothes storage.
The back bedroom is compact! It has one small double/large single bed (114cm x 175cm), space for your suitcases under the bed, and wonderful views over St Bees Golf Course to the sea.
The bathroom has bath with shower over, WC and basin.
Outside, the quirky little cottage garden has two grassy areas and a gravel terrace with sea views, this is ideal for alfresco lunch or watching sunsets.
At the bottom of the garden is a low wall over a steep drop so please take care!
Guest Access:
Key box Entry, the details will be given 2 days before check in.
There is free parking out the front of the property, please park slightly on the path so other vehicles can access the road.
The Neighborhood:
St Bees is a quiet village on the coast of West Cumbria.
There are 3 pubs, a village shop/post office, and beach cafe.
It is the start point for Wainwright’s Coast to Coast trail and the Cumbrian Coastal path passes through the village.
The priory church dates to the 11th Century, and is packed with interesting history.
The village also boasts a tiny museum of railway memorabilia.
For railway enthusiasts, the La’al Ratty narrow gauge train is close by in Ravenglass, running up into beautiful Eskdale.
Wastwater, Scafell, Keswick, Buttermere and all the sights of the western Lake District are within easy reach by car.
The nearest town with a supermarket is Whitehaven (4.5 miles). Egremont (3 miles) has a well- stocked Co-op and several take-away outlets. The closest place to buy fire logs is the garage at Bigrigg (3.5 miles).
Getting Around:
St Bees has a railway station on the Carlisle-Barrow line. There is free, on-street parking close to the house. There are plenty of local walks/running routes from the house along the coast and inland, some of which can be combined with the train. If you arrive by rail, the house is 10 minutes walk uphill from the station.
Other Things to Note:
We allow pets. Please no pets on the furniture or upstairs.
The stairs are steep with no bannister.
The garden ends in a low wall with a steep drop below.
The blinds in the bedrooms are not child-proof. Please be very careful.
