The Two Byres is situated in Upper Halistra which is a small crofting community situated in the Waternish Peninsula. It is a wonderful, modern, luxurious architect-designed cottage to take full advantage of the panoramic views over Loch Bay and Loch Dunvegan including the Cuillin mountain peaks, Macleod’s Tables, Dunvegan Head, the Minch all the way to the Outer Hebrides on the horizon. In the off-peak season you will get amazing views of the Northern Lights from the cottage and garden.
The Two Byres is eco friendly with underfloor heating from an air source heat pump which can be supplemented by the wood burner in the living area. It has a spacious open-plan living space with dual aspects from the living room and access to one of the deckings via patio doors; another patio door and the decking is situated at the dining room end, so in total you have access to three decks which open the living areas out to make the most of the sea air from sunrise to sunset and the mesmerising views. The dining area leads through to the kitchen which has everything you would need to cook a feast for your guests. From the living area you then go through the very well-equipped study (with computer and printer) to the main bedroom with en-suite shower room. Again, this bedroom has triple aspect views looking out towards Dunvegan Head and the Outer Hebrides. The second bedroom is a double and the third bedroom is a twin bedroom; these share the family bathroom. The garage has six adult mountain bikes for the use of the guests along with space for storing kayaks, canoes and more! There is also an up-to-the-minute drying facility and a full-size wine fridge!
The village of Stein is only 3 miles away with the famous Stein Inn pub, and the Michelin Star Lochbay restaurant; and you can also book your boat trip to St Kilda which goes from outside the Stein Inn (advisable to book early). Dunvegan Castle, the Clan seat of the MacLeods is 8 miles away and it is also home to the Fairy Flag.
A mile or so on from the castle is Coral Bay where you will find the cows walking around the white sands and having a dip in the water, one to get a photo of the cows on the beach! This is a dream house to visit and to spend a week relaxing, taking in the views, and the area, and returning in the evening to sit again watching the views and maybe reading one of the many books in the library in the living area.
