Guest review…..

Fantastic location right next to estuary trail. Bikes were provided which were great fun. Short walk to Barmouth over the bridge. Accommodation was very comfortable and extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Lots of excellent hikes straight from the door so no need to drive. Cadair Idris a short drive away if need something challenging. DVD collection is huge and board games etc available. Plenty of hot water and heating so no chance of getting cold in the winter. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and sure that you would too.

A memorable stay in a beautiful cottage

My wife and I and our seven year old son had an excellent stay in this characteristic and extremely comfortable cottage. An ideal location close to Barmouth and within walking distance of the local train station. Special thanks to Neil, the owner of this stunning cottage. We enjoyed our stay that much that we have already booked to stay again next year! Craig, Sophia and Harry

Cosy cottage

A very quirky cosy cottage. Very warm . In an ideal spot in the country. Ideal for walkers, biker. Next to a walking trail with patthway to Fairbourne and Barmouth overlooking the estuary. Train station about a 5 min walk. The owner has left lots of equiptment to use, bikes surfboard etc. We had to 6 yr olds with us and they loved it

LOVED IT!

The property is indeed quirky but just as described in the listing, and suited us down to the ground as it was something different! Had everything we needed (with the exception of a freezer compartment in the fridge but minor point), and was clean and warm. Huge TV and good wifi. One of the best things for us was the availability of bikes, and we spent 2 of our our 4 days there riding in the beautiful local area. Also had body boards but we didn't have time to use them (and golf clubs etc). Would benefit from automated checking in details prior to the trip as communication with the owner was occasionally a little tricky. Would definitely stay again!

About the host

Hosted by Neil Jarrett

Host profile image
The cottage has been a family holiday home since 1970. I've taken it on and dont like to see it empty and so have become a host.

Why they chose this property

My Dad said its the most beautiful place in the world. He hadn't been to many places in the world and so I always questioned him on how he knew. I've since been almost everywhere in the world and now can add evidence, if a little biased, that he was right. Its beautiful, peaceful but also has every outdoor activity imaginable. I'm still in love with it, 50 years on.

What makes this property unique

The cottage was originally a boar war troop station, shipped back from South Africa and then became a ticket office for the local horse drawn tram. It's nearly 150 years old, slopes a bit and and has character like nowhere else! And is so peaceful and quiet with the most outstanding scenery from the garden.
