Unique location
The property is set in the middle of a peaceful public park which was great for walking the dog. There is a secluded , enclosed rear garden. It was clean and comfortable inside, but we have had to knock off one star as there were too many relatively minor issues. There was no welcome book so lots of information was missing - there was no WiFi code and we had to get in touch with the owner to get it; there was a limited number of toilet rolls (all had been used within 24 hours); there was no information on what to do with recycling and the outside bin was completely full. A great place to stay if these relatively minor issues are addressed.

Homely
Seven of us age range 6-75 stayed at Gardners Cottage during New Year week. On arrival welcomed by the warmth of the property in the afternoon of the last day of the year. And welcomed even more by the Christmas tree beautifully lit in the dining room.Other lovely festive decorations( including mistletoe ) were still there in the hallway and lounge. The lounge very comfortable but may have benefitted by another light in the winter afternoon and evenings. The Smart TV was available in one corner. Wi-Fi excellent .The spacious dining room adequately fitted eight diners..The kitchens amenities supplied all:that was needed for the family. And the adjoining utility room a great bonus. On the first floor two sizeable bedrooms , king size beds and the main bathroom with two sinks , shower and bathOn the second floor two more bedrooms able to house double ( king) beds or single beds dependent on choice with a shower room to share .In view of the season the garden was not used but it was private and the garden furniture covered from the elementsWhether you have or have not visited Bury St Edmunds before, this cottage is absolutely a primary choice for a family self catering stay. It’s situated within Nowton Park which has lovely walks, and by car it is less than 10 minutes away from the famous town. This cottage is given a 5 star rating but its approach via a semi private road has gates that are locked by Park Rangers. But to unlock it take care on dark winter evenings .
