About this property

Potter's Wheel - sleeps 4, private lake access, dog friendly and parking

Potter's Wheel, located in the small hamlet of Water Yeat, is enviably positioned just seconds from the quiet South Western shores of Coniston Water. This quintessential home away from home is the epitome of a traditional Lakeland cottage and the out-pouring of love from the property owners doesn’t go unnoticed, making this the perfect base to explore some of The Lake District’s unspoilt gems.

The period lead windows, rock faced lounge and original beamed ceilings are paired with modern day amenities and tasteful accessories, striking the perfect balance between the old and the new.

An up-to-the-minute dining kitchen, two comfortable bedrooms and one family house bathroom make up the basis of this ‘olde worlde’ cottage, while the undeniably unique lounge sits at the front of the house. With its feature log burning stove, original spiral staircase and comfortable seating for the whole family, this is without a doubt the beating heart of this charming home.

Not forgetting the reason everyone falls in love with this cottage: the lake access! Step out from the front door and within seconds you’ll have journeyed through the private woodland and be embracing the purity of Lakeland waters. Be it open water swimming, paddleboarding, canoeing – or even a spot of fishing from the private beach area – this is an adventurer’s playground. And dare we say it, possibly even a 'honeymooners haven'...

Peaceful retreat that's near perfect

Pros Cottage is located in a lovely and peaceful location surrounded by nature, but also not too far from nearby Coniston to feel isolated. So many local walks and things to do and see. The Cottage is very cosy, especially at night, with the fire crackling away. Has everything you need for a weeks stay to make your own meals Private access to the lake is a great bonus for anybody into swimming / water sports Beds were comfy Instructions for appliances and general cottage guide was well thought out Great selection of games, books, DVDs and maps to browse through Cons - We found the shower to be very weak - Didn't realise dog weren't allowed in the bedrooms until we arrived so we did not use the upstairs room at all, although they were comfy twin beds downstairs - No visitors book to sign and get ideas from Overall we really enjoyed our stay and found the cottage to be very accommodating and is obviously well looked after and cherished by the owners. Thank you :)

Comfort blanket for the soul.

Arrived late afternoon to a welcoming and warm, clean cottage. Stayed here 15 years ago and always said we would return. Setting is wonderful with easy access to the lake (has a shingle shoreline). Great for sitting by a campfire and watching the stars on a clear night and listening to the owls, but wrap up warm if you're stay is in the winter! Tucked away and surrounded by trees, this place is a comfort blanket for the soul. Take some bird food and a feeder and you'll be entertained by the local wildlife directly outside the kitchen window whilst having breakfast. Squirrels, Nuthatches, Woodpeckers, Robins, various other birds and, if you're lucky, even a cheeky stoat might make an appearance! The cottage has everything you need for your stay. Very well equipped kitchen - just add food. Cosy lounge, especially when the log burner is pressed into service (logs/kindling available locally down in Coniston village). Comfortable bed too, with plenty of spare blankets if required. If you fancy eating out then plenty of good places locally and a little further afield. Ideally located for visiting The Langdales, Ambleside and Windermere. Customer service at Tarn and Fell Escapes excellent. Prompt and helpful responses to our queries. If you're looking for a cosy, well equipped little bolthole, then this is the place. We are already planning our third stay. Would just advise caution if using the outside steps to the upper floor - very slippery. 'Tis the lake district after all. All in all, a great little place to 'get away from it all'.

Gorgeous cottage with access to Consiton Water

We really enjoyed staying at Potters Wheel. The cottage is fantastic value for money, given the space and the access to Coniston Water. We love swimming and Paddlebaording and loved the beach access. The cottage has free parking and is a short drive away from local fells and peaks. The cottage was very cosy and was well maintained. The kitchen is modern, well equipped and clean. The bathroom was very clean. Our only minor suggestion would be keep on top of dusting, particularly in the living space. We will definitely be back!

What a place!

This is the second time we have stayed and we love it here. We have 2 young boys and they love the woods at the front and the field and lake side access!! It has everything you need for a quiet, relaxing time. Can't wait to come back again xx

Cosy, clean and relaxing

A beautifully designed extension to this old cottage makes for a warm, cosy and comfortable place to relax and unwind, or use as a base from which to explore and be more adventurous. Superbly equipped kitchen makes meal prep easy. The beds and sofas are very comfortable. Two main criteria for me were a log fire and a bathtub. It all worked so well. Tucked away in woodland but close enough to the road, I loved it. Would definitely re-book.

Birthday stay

Four of us stayed and we had THE BEST TIME. Every need is catered for. Fixtures and fittings are high quality and everything you think you’ve forgotten is already at the cottage. The cottage itself is so full of character and being near the beautiful lake is fantastic. We will be returning- if you could order some sunshine next time though we would be grateful!!! ☀️☀️☀️

Our distance from the waters edge.

Yes there was access to the lake but to carry a kayak down over grown paths and steps was not a viable situation. Overgrown vegetation needs to be cut back.

A great stay!

Potters Wheel was very clean upon arrival. A lovely cottage in a very nice peaceful and quiet location. Ross's professional and friendly approach has been excellent. I would not hesitate in recommending Tarn and Fell Eascapes. Looking forward to our next booking in December.

Tawny Owls a bonus!

Thank you to Ross, who provided excellent and welcoming responses from the first enquiry. It’s easy to have a good holiday when the weather is great. We did not have good weather, but still had a lovely holiday and were able to properly relax in this traditional cottage, full of character, but with quality modern comforts and facilities. Listening to the tawny owls outside (and seeing them from time to time was a bonus. The location is very good, and access to the lake was a delight for our Labrador! Would recommend and hope to stay again.

Great place as a base camp for walks

On a walking holiday in the lakes with a friend, my dog and me, weather not great so we were grateful for a tidy, clean escape from the weather. It’s in a quiet peaceful location but well positioned for access to walks and local towns. Very nice dog-friendly pub in Coniston (The Bull). Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends & family.

Relaxing break

Lovely cottage, great location with all the amenities we needed. Even the kitchen knives were sharp for food prep (often not the case!)

Christmas by the lake

We spent a wonderful week at Potters Wheel over Christmas. The location is stunning and the accommodation beautifully presented with everything we needed for a super comfortable stay. Communication with Ross at Tarn & Fell was excellent throughout and we really appreciated all the extra touches including a lovely Christmas tree. Big thank you for making our stay extra special.

A wonderful stay

We cannot speak more highly of both the place and Tarn & Fell. Ross from Tarn & Fell was absolutely brilliant from start to finish, far more helpful than 5 stars suggests. The property was immaculate, extremely well equipped and so very comfortable. An absolutely wonderful holiday and we will certainly be using Tarn & Fell again.

Lovely peaceful situated cottage

The cottage is very cosy and peaceful. It was lovely watching all the different species of birds in the mornings. Everything was in the cottage that we needed. Ross provided a great service, when required. The situation of the cottage was ideal for sightseeing around the lakes. Some beautiful walks straight from the front door. We had a fabulous week. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely cottage, cosy, clean & comfortable in a beautiful lakeside location.

Potters Wheel was a perfect place for us to stay with our 2 dogs. Everything we needed was provided. The walks from the cottage are fabulous and it's a great base to explore from. The cottage itself is warm, clean and comfortable with lovely soft towels and bedding provided. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped with everything you need. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Many thanks to Ross for keeping in touch and for excellent recommendations of places to visit and eat.

A lovely escape to the lakes

Potter's Wheel is immaculate. Really well appointed and comfortable with great access to a private launch onto Coniston. Ross from Tarn & Fell was incredibly helpful and communicative - ensuring we had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The property itself is an amazing gateway to the Lakes - with Coniston and Ambleside both within short drives. An added bonus is some lovely walks straight from the property. Could not recommend more highly and will definitely be back.
