About this property

17th century renovated stone built farm house with private pool and garden

Stone built in 1685, situated in the village of Vaunac, the farmhouse and its Gite have been carefully restored keeping their original character.
The property has a private pool, private garden, and car parking space.

The small hamlet is surrounded by forest and this is where you are likely to see deer or wild boar as they tend to emerge from the woodland very early in the morning or in the evening twilight. Chickens and ducks in a separate garden area are all securely contained in their respective enclosures, and prove to be of great interest to younger guests.

Situated only 10 minutes from the market town of Thiviers, this well furnished and equipped holiday home provides comfortable accommodation for families, as well as couples. The location is ideal for discovering the delights of the Périgord region, and exploring the nearby towns and villages, such as Limoges, Périgueux, Brantôme, Saint-Jean-de-Côle and the martyr village of Oradour-sur-Glane, all within an hour’s drive.

This charming cottage has been beautifully restored to a high standard by the present owner, who lives in the adjoining farmhouse.
Sleeping up to five in two bedrooms, a cot and high chair are also available for baby if required.
The main bedroom has romantic wooden beams and a double bed, and the second bedroom has three full size single beds. Both rooms overlook the pool and garden. The cottage has a walk-in shower room with wash hand basin and a separate toilet off the hallway.
Air conditioning is available for the kitchen, dining and lounge areas and the kitchen is fully equipped with a gas/electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge/freezer, whilst the lounge and dining area provides comfortable and soft armchairs, a wood burning stove, English satellite TV, dvd player and free Wifi - all for your holiday relaxation.
The gardens, sun terrace and swimming pool can be accessed directly from the lounge and the pool area is private and not overlooked. A range of garden furniture and sun loungers along with a BBQ are also available for your holiday enjoyment.

Everything you need

We had a great stay with Cath. The gite is extremely well equipped with all the extras you need including washing liquid, dish washer tabs etc. the bed is very big and comfortable with good quality bedding; my husband is 6ft 4 and he found the bed a good size. There is a great garden and private pool; great for us and our dog. The nearest bakery is a 10 minute drive but a van delivering fresh bread and pastries comes to the hamlet twice a week. We saw a stag in the field from the garden, who is a regular visitor to the wheat field. TV has UK channels as well as local ones and the internet was good based on the 3 gites we stayed at during our vacation in Dordogne. The one improvement I would make would be to fully enclose the garden to make it easier for dog owners, but we saw that Cath was already doing some work on this. Loved the little touches such as wine, bread, butter and homemade pate in the fridge, if you arrive late you still have everything in the gite to make breakfast.

Simplement Zen.

Very welcoming

The owner Cath Hall left a lovely welcome pack in our gite. The gite was lovely and catered to all our needs . The pool was a good size . I loved that we could take our two Labradors and that they have plenty of garden/ fields to run around in. Cath was very helpful and I would certainly recommend her. 5 stars plus.

Wonderful place to stay

Our first holiday to France and we had a fabulous time. Cath was extremely helpful but not intrusive; suggested places to visit, brought eggs from her chickens and was especially helpful with our vet appointment and a doctors appointment when i was unwell. Loved the whole setting our teenagers loved feeding the chickens!! We will definitely be back. Thanks Cath

Happy vacation guaranteed - thanks Cath for this perfect time

Lovely gite in a quiet location

We arrived at the property to a lovely friendly welcome together with food items - bread, cheese, pate, milk, croissants, jam and a bottle of wine. Lots of basic cupboard ingredients too. The property was clean and well-equipped and outside was the courtyard leading on to an inviting pool area with table / chairs and sunbeds, BBQ and gardens. There were geese and chickens (who enjoyed being fed left-overs) and a large open area where we played badminton. I cannot thank the owner Cath enough for her help and advice during her stay, especially when we had problems with our van and needed it looked at before the journey home! The town of Brantome nearby was great to visit and we hired canoes (or you could try paddle boards). The Friday market there was well worth a visit. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the property to friends / family.

Excellent accommodation

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Chalet. Very well equipped, Cath has thought of everything you could possibly need. A fantastic food package was very much appreciated after such a long journey down. The pool was especially welcoming with temperatures souring above 40 degrees! We would highly recommend a stay here with plenty to do including a visit to Brantome, Oredour Sur Glanne and Saint Jeanne De Cole. Thank you for a fantastic stay, we hope to come here again in the near future.

Idyllic setting for a great holiday

Superbly equipped cottage in the heart of the Dordogne that delivers on its promise of tranquility and relaxation. Fabulous fortnight in a great location - lovely pool and garden - surrounded by woodland and walks - just the recipe for a lovely holiday. Cath is a great host who knows what makes a holiday. Highly recommended.

Great Gite and Very Welcoming Host

From the moment we arrived we felt that this was going to be a good week. Cathy met us and directed us to the property and said after we had settled in she would call later, which she did. We knew immediately that we would feel at home because she originally was from the North of England as we were. What can I say, the Welcome Pack was very generous, never in our travels have we received one like this before. During the week she was there when needed but not obtrusive, we had some lovely chats with her, felt we had known her for years, the eggs from the hens were the best we have tasted. The property was very nice and clean, lovely bedding etc and we just loved the walk-in shower. The pool was an added bonus but unfortunately because it was cold at night the water never got up to the temperature during the day that would invite you to go in. Lovely to sit outside though and admire the beautiful gardens and go down at night to see the deer in the fields below the gite.We visited St Jean de Cole, a must, Brantome, very nice but full of English and we thought very over--rated not sure we would go there again. Perigoux is a must, lovely place. Go to the Tourist Office, the young man we spoke to very knowledgeable and spoke perfect English, gave us a map and we did a walk around the old parts, very interesting. Didn't want to leave the gite. We would love to return to Vaunac next year but I fear that Cathy is well booked up already, that's a shame, but we will return soon hopefully.

Fautless

This is a faultless property. It looked like a dream come true on the website and it more than lived up to the advance publicity in the flesh. The building itself is beautiful and is also cool, well-equipped and tastefully furnished. As well as a sumptuous welcome pack, Cath, the owner, thoughtfully provides all the basics you might need such as condiments, cooking oil and barbecue materials, so that you don't have to find a shop that is open late on a Saturday after a long journey. Our children would have been perfectly happy swimming in the pool all day and we enjoyed lounging by it ourselves and then jumping in to cool off. However, the gite also makes an excellent base for exploring castles, caves and towns in the locality. We especially enjoyed the nearby town of Brantome, cycling along the Voie Verte, canoeing on the Dronne and swimming in the lake at Thiviers. Cath is the perfect host - attentive but not at all intrusive.

A lovely typically French Gite

Was very impressed with the high standard of accommodation and equipment in the property, extremely good value. The owner makes you feel very welcome, the generous welcome pack and extra little touches make you feel immediately at home. The property is in a very pretty location with some very nice woodland walks from the door and is also well placed for tourist attractions in the area such as the caves at Villars. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

This is a great property.

A very comprehensive "Welcome pack" on arrival. After a long journey, Cath had supplied more than enough provisions for that first evening when you wonder what you are going to eat. A lovely clean and extremely well equipped Gite. Everything was spotless, beds very comfortable especially that first night in a strange bed and you sleep very soundly. Wake up to sunshine and a beautifully clean pool. Large grounds with trees offering plenty of shade. Cath is an extremely helpful on site owner, in the background but there if you need something. We had 2 great weeks in this stunning area, caves, chateaux and small and large villages and towns. Try the small restaurant sitting under the trees in St. Jean de la Croix. Thanks Cath for letting us share your gite.

Superb Gite

This was our third visit to Les Vignes, which says a lot! The gite is clean, very well equipped, with English Satellite TV, Wifi and everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, good quality bedding, towels and a wonderful welcome pack when you arrive, including daily fresh eggs from Caths chickens and geese. The pool is wonderful and much needed in the hot summer weather. Cath (the owner) is lovely and very helpful. For us, this holiday is a complete rest, plenty of R&R, and we love watching the local wildlife but it can be whatever you want it to be, if you want sight seeing there are lots of amazing places to visit in the region. Yes, we will be going back again.

Highly recommended accommodation in a beautiful location... owner is very helpful, gite very reasonably priced for what's offered, house is beautifully finished and extremely comfortable. Super Gite

We retned the Gite for the whole of June and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The Gite is exactly as described and the pool was even larger than we expected, a real bonus. Our host Cath was really friendly and very helpful and we particularly liked the great welcome pack to get you started. We'd have no hesitation in returning next year, if we haven't already moved over to France.
