About this property
Villa Covri by Villas Guide
The extraordinary Villa Covri is situated in the charming Istrian village of Kovri, between Novigrad and Brtonigla. Surrounded by olive trees and vineyards, the villa was originally built as a farmstead in the 16th century and then renovated in 2017. Due to its rich history, it is part of the Istrian cultural and historical heritage. Since its renovation, it has been awarded several times as the most beautiful accommodation in Croatia. With 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, a unique combination of traditional Istrian and modern style and a range of additional concierge services, Villa Covri offers authentic and luxurious holidays for up to 10 people and one pet.
The interior of the 300m² mansion is spread over three levels, each with the same aesthetic appeal. Even at first glance both inside and outside of the villa, the blend of Istrian tradition and modern industrial style is striking. Given the history of the building, special attention was paid to the preservation of the original heritage and ecological sustainability during the refurbishment. For example, stone from the original courtyard fence was used to restore the stone walls, while stone from Istrian quarries was used for renovation. Even the wooden beams, which have been a part of the house for hundreds of years, were restored. The entire house was hand-plastered and painted using environmentally friendly paints.
The ground floor has an open-plan living area with lounge, a dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. Neutral, earthy colours are used throughout to create a relaxing and airy feel. This is particularly emphasised in the living room. There are sofas for 7 people to relax in front of the fireplace and enjoy a glass of local wine. A wooden dining table with charmingly mismatched chairs for 10 people can be found in the centre of the open plan area. Throughout the house you will find both traditional and modern decorative details. This includes the kitchen, which has a modern island with induction cooker and a rustic fireplace in the wall. The stone floor is made of original Istrian stone slates dating back to the 16th century.
The bedrooms on the first and second floors are dominated by cool blues and greens in a predominantly modern style with antique detailing. On the first floor there are 3 spacious bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. One of the bedrooms has its own terrace with direct access to the garden. Whether it's sunny or raining, this glassed-in terrace with an armchair and Mediterranean plants is perfect for enjoying a good book. Or you can simply take in the views of the stunning natural surroundings with the scents of the Mediterranean and a cup of tea. There are 2 more bedrooms on the second floor, all with en-suite bathrooms. Each bathroom is furnished with understated luxury and traditional details and is fully equipped with toiletries.
The villa is surrounded by 1,800m² of gardens. The Mediterranean garden is dotted with lavender, rosemary, olive and mulberry trees and a hundred-year-old laurel bush. The original stone terrace with outside stairs, the so-called "baladur", is one of the oldest and best preserved baladurs in Istria. You can discover another, smaller Mediterranean garden on the roof of the pool house. Next to this green oasis is the saltwater pool, and throughout the garden there are several tempting resting spots. The house also has a summer kitchen and a barbecue area and even outside the villa there are antiquity objects that further enrich the ambiance. The villa offers private parking for up to 4 cars.
Villa holidays are always a luxurious experience, but for Villa Covri's guests they are taken up a notch. During your stay, you can take advantage of the villa's concierge services, including a private chef, chauffeur, massage, yoga classes in the villa or garden, as well as bike, boat and sailboat rentals. If you want to explore the local amenities, the village of Brtonigla is famous for its vineyards and olive oil. Visit one of the family wineries or taverns for a tasting – it will make your day. Apart from Brtonigla, where you can also visit archaeological sites, for those who want to explore natural beauty, there is the nearby Mramornica Cave, where you can walk along a safe tourist path to a depth of 20 m. If you want to give your little ones a day of adventure, take them to Istralandia Aquapark, which is only a 10-minute drive from the villa. And don't forget to spend the day at one of the many beaches nearby, such as those near the lovely town of Novigrad.
