My family and I stayed here for a long weekend visiting relatives. The guest barn is super cute - big cozy beds, a nice kitchen and living area, and located off the beaten path but within 10 minutes of pretty much everything in Bennington.
the Barn was a cute place to stay. Eleanor had all amenities as listed, the kitchen well-stocked, The location was beautiful. The beds were comfortable. Newly renovated bathroom and kitchen were nicely done. would stay
Overall, the facility was clean and comfortable. Location was close to family. This was our second time staying at this location and we may stay here again in the future. We would recommend adding a grab bar in the bathroom near the toilet to help with mobility. My wife had knee surgery in March.
Thanks for a pleasant stay.
Gold course is great, incredible views, $85/man but worth it! The place was nice, the backyard bonfire pit is great! Maybe a couple more chairs would be nice. For the price its worth it if you're looking for an affordable weekend trip and plan on being outside the barn. Not a place to really settle in and cook so eat out should be a strong option if you plan to stay. Garbage cans are tiny and overflow happens quickly so pack light or sack your own trash. shower pressure is pretty low but you get clean if you need a shower. Beds are ok, linen is ok, utensils and cooking gear is a little lacking as well as a good toaster or pans to cook in. Overall, great comms with the owner, the place is affordable and relatively clean.

Barn Conversion
The conversion could be adorable if certain details were updated (lighting dim, ceiling and lamps throughout each room; pitch the loveseat, sagged to floor; and eliminate all the shabby chic knick-knacks).
A positive vote for outstanding mattresses and shower. This could be a jewel if updated inside (less stuff in living space, kitchen) and the exterior entry, yard area needs some TLC. This is why the VRBO picture is strictly interior.
Note, we arrived early just to drop off bags before exploring area. My phone had the wrong time & date (bad battery). We were met by a young lady who identified herself as the 'cleaner'. Her approach was unprofessional, accusatory. After the interaction (3 minutes tops), we left to enjoy Bennington. The owner contacted us in a few minutes to repeat the check-in policy time and question why I did not reply to her. Unsure if this VRBO is booked non-stop in the Fall, but the tone from owner and cleaner was unnecessary.

Property photos should be updated
Not like the photos shown on the listing. Our small group of 3 women over 50 were disappointed with the "guest barn". The photos shown on the VRBO listing must have been taken immediately after the barn renovation when everything was new. It might be easiest to list the OK and the NOT OK things we encountered. OK: beds were comfortable, bathroom had plenty of towels, coffee maker worked, plates/glasses/mugs/silverware were all in good quantity. NOT OK: musty and damp - would benefit from a dehumidifier instead of the air purifier that was running; lots of dead bugs on the bedroom window sills, spider webs and spiders in the bathroom at the base of the tub and in the small windows; overgrown with weeds around all sides of the house; patio and lawn furniture was dirty and deck paint peeling almost entirely away; too much leftover food/condiments in the refrigerator and cupboards; shower supplies seemed shared from many previous guests; no water cooler as shown in the photos and the water line to the refrigerator is not connected. When we were preparing to leave and collecting bed linens and towels, one friend showed me the stains on the pillowcase in her room and I found a dried bug of some sort under the sheet I had just removed. The hostess did stop by early in the stay to ask us to move a car and asked how we were doing. Overall not a great experience and probably ranks lowest on my 6 + years of VRBO experiences. We did take time to drive and explore the local towns of Bennington and Manchester. Shout out to the 421 Craft Bar and Kitchen in Bennington - fabulous staff and food!

Quaint but needs alot of updates and work
The overall smell of the place is dank and musty. This place is way over priced for what we got. We run our own rental and know what this should have been.
1- Info sharing- there were no instructions on how to use the TV, VCR, DVD player or the fireplace. Brief concise instructions would be helpful for many renters. The entertainment is a joke, should have live streaming, 20 shopping channels does not make entertainment.
2- No place to hang wet towels. The Barn sleeps 6, one towel bar in the bathroom. Perhaps double hooks on the back of bedroom doors would be helpful.
3- Not enough bathmats for the bathroom. There was one, we had to use towels all over the floor, the floor is VERY cold in the winter.
4- Cobwebs on the bathroom light fixtures, on the picture frames in the living room and on the legs of the nightstands in all the bedrooms.
5- Mouse droppings in a dresser drawer, under the sink and on the floor under fallen baseboard in front of kitchen sink.
6- No heat in the AM of our first night. They came and fixed it the same day.
7- Polyester sheets, not ideal cotton would be better.
8- Coffee maker dirty and very old, SAFETY HAZARD- does not have an automatic shut off. It was left on all day and night without us knowing. UPGRADE NEEDED
9- Smoke detectors not hooked up the batteries SAFETY HAZARD This means if there was a fire they would not go off.
10- Ceiling tile falling or bulging over the bed in one of the rooms. NEEDS FIXING
11- No stereo or radio
12- Light out in bathroom
13- Shower curtain is moldy NEEDS CHANGING.
14- Beds are comfortable and cozy (minus the poly sheets 😊)
15- Water pressure is good
16- Large Fridge and nice appliances in kitchen
17- Not one box of tissues in the rental- I had to buy my own, there should be a box in every room
18- Found a dead bug/beetle in a pot under the cabinet
19- Towels and washcloths stained and soiled, NEED REPLACING
I have pictures to support the mouse droppings, the drooping ceiling tile and the bug in a pot.
We were not impressed by this rental.
Vermont is one of the most beautiful places I have visited. The 1920’s Bennington Vermont Guest Barn was in the perfect location. My sisters and I were able to visit all the sites and then relax in a cozy home away from home.
Thank you, so very much!
Excellent! This converted 3 bed 1 bath barn was perfect for our party of two adults and two grown children as a comfy home base to explore the Bennington-Manchester area and adventured in the Greem Mountain Wilderness of VT. The bedrooms are fairly large and the beds are clean and comfortable. The unit features a smallish eat-in kitchen with excellent appliances and shelves that are pre-stocked with useful items and some spices. The bathroom is clean, modern, with okay water pressure. We felt immediately at home here and enjoyed our fire pit every night. Summer swimming is quite convenient at Paran Lake (10 mins or less), Dorset Marble Quarry (26 mins), and Shaftbury Lake (15 mins). Bennington is charmimg and features shops, 2 plus breweries, and restaurants (things close SUPER early in Southern VT). Try Ramuntos for delicious Italian, great pizza (we're from NJ so we're Pizza Snobs!), and a great selection of beers on tap! For an upscale dining experience make a reservation at the Publick House. It is fantastic and just up the road from the Barn. Elinor & Mike are wonderful and do everything they can for your stay. The only thing wec didn’t adore about the Barn is the eyesore trailer-home that sits behind the property. You can't help but see it when enjoying the backyard and fire pit. But, all in all, a relatively minor detacting factor. If you consider the actual accommodation, the LOCATION, the cleanliness, the owners, etc., the Barn is a real find!
We enjoyed our stay st the guest barn; it's a great location if you're in the Bennington area to explore. We missed the turn for the house upon arrival, not realizing it shares a parking lot with the Baptist church. We appreciated the responsiveness of our hosts - when the coffee maker didn't turn on, it was replaced the same day. We were there at a rainy time and the space might have benefited from a dehumidifier.
Cozy, well-equipped three full size bedrooms and full bath
Very well equipped, with confortable beds and just about everything one could need.

good and bad
great location peaceful and quiet. only met the rev. and he was a very nice man willing to do anything to make our stay pleasant. good shower water pressure was fine. beds were comfortable. all appliances worked well. but there were a few drawbacks. bathroom not very senior friendly no bars to grab and no mat in tub. the only air conditioning in the house is in the rear bedroom. food left in the house has been there so long some of it is out of date. if you walked around in a pair of white socks when you took them off they were dirty so the rugs needed a good scrubbing. small minor improvements needed and if they were taken care of i would definitely go back.
Had a great time. Hostess was sweet and very responsive but the Bennington water pressure issue is a problem... especially if you’re in the shower, ,and soaped up... !!!!!
We rented this property from Dec 29-Jan 02. The location was perfect for access to our eldest son who resides in upstate NY, convenient to civilization, interstate access, while also allowing for the more remote feel we prefer. The surrounding area has multiple local diners and spots to stop for a bite. Would definitely recommend going to Blue Benns for breakfast, it was delicious and much more than we expected based on its appearance. During our stay we had our youngest daughter (17) and her friend that shared a room. This home is set up for the conveniences of home, to include a fully equipped eat in kitchen, living area, WiFi, 3 bedrooms, one bath, laundry area, and small deck with grill off of the master. The attention to detail is clear throughout this home. If I’m being honest, our only issue was the lack of water pressure. It wasn’t unbearable, just took some getting used to. Eleanor is precious and she and her husband were very accessible, at any time we needed anything. We will definitely be back to rent again, as we plan to move to VT and will be returning numerous times before we buy in VT.
we rented the barn house to go along with the main house for a wedding we were attending. It worked out perfectly. My grandchildren we pleasantly surprised by the collection of movies and games. Clean and well stocked!
The property was very cozy and just like the pictures.

Barn in Bennington
Needed a place to stay for one week with a kitchen in Bennington. Place has well stocked kitchen..lacks window light and visibility but great location on old highway 7A. One air-conditioner in bedroom was a life saver during unusual heat wave. Good deal for the price.

Welcome home
Warm and welcoming spot to return to, when Bennington beckons. My husband, son and I enjoyed revisiting places around town that hold fond memories, and then returning to such a cozy spot to reminisce. Everything was immaculate, the beds were extremely comfortable, and Eleanor was attentive and kind. Highly recommend.

Retired Registered Nurse loving living in Vermont and all it has to offer. Love the lifestyle of Vermont, the quaintness, the back country roads and all the people. Great place to grow up and enjoy life.
Why they chose this property
Very unique barn apartment lovingly renovated for comfort and the feel of home. Wonderful location to see many of the sites Vermont has to offer like covered bridges, museums, ski resorts, colleges, Vermont Country Store, Mass Moca, and much more only a short distance away. Come tour some of our back country roads for a great scenery of rock walls and old farm houses and some old school houses here and there. Maple syrup is our thriving business and visit some of the "sugar shacks". We even have some restaurants that charge for the "fake stuff" if you you don't want "real Maple Syrup". Love the lifestyle and love Vermont!
What makes this property unique
Great location and a unique setting with many of the comforts of your own home added for that personal touch. There is even a nice deck out back with a grill and a place to enjoy your meal along with a nice lawn area and fire pit.
