Region: Cornwall’s visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain’s premier holiday destinations.
Town: Once an important pilchard-fishing village, today Portscatho is a popular holiday destination for those seeking a traditional seaside location. Brimming with Cornish charm, there is a sandy beach and a harbour, as well as a pub, a butcher’s, a greengrocer’s and a handful of gift shops and galleries. The coastline here is most scenic, with hidden coves, secret beaches and mile upon mile of undulating coastal footpath. The village of Gerrans is just a short stroll along the shore, and the beautiful Porthcurnick beach is also accessible via the coast path from Porthscatho. Portscatho offers a holiday away from it all, with a welcoming community spirit and several annual events which everyone gets involved with – including the fish festival each August.
