About this property

Rural retreat in the mountains with far reaching views | Pwll-Y-March

Pwll y March is a delightful double fronted stone cottage located in the foothills of the Rhinog Mountains, just ten minutes from the pretty village of Llanbedr. Owned by the same family for generations this rural retreat in the mountains with far reaching views oozes character and quirky charm.

The cottages' peaceful location provides a complete break from day to day life; immerse yourself in the unspoilt, timeless, surrounding landscape, enjoy views for miles, dark skies, and a level of quiet rarely found these days.

Lovingly restored, with original wooden floors and exposed beams throughout, Pwll Y March sleeps up to six guests in three bedrooms with a ground floor bathroom and open plan kitchen-living room. The kitchen, with dual aspect windows providing views over the garden and surrounding countryside, provides a sociable space with a large dining table perfect for family meals or after dinner games. The living room offers a cosy space to relax with a log burner set into an inglenook fireplace and custom library shelves built around the deep set window. Curl up on the comfortable sofas to enjoy a glass of wine in front of the fire or choose from the wide selection of books and settle into the window seat which provides the perfect reading nook.

From the living room a door opens onto the original stone staircase, part way up the stairs a door leads into the bathroom, another characterful room with white painted stone walls, a WC, washbasin and bath with shower over.

Upstairs a small landing study area provides a quiet workplace to catch up on any essential emails. Beyond this are three bedrooms, all with beautiful wooden floors and deep window sills set into the cottages' thick stone walls. To the front is a double bedroom with panoramic views towards the coast, along with a twin, also with views towards the coast. The third bedroom, to the rear, is a further double with glorious mountain views.

Outside, a garden wraps around the cottage which is separated from the surrounding countryside by a low stone wall. The garden offers a lovely tranquil spot to relax, with sheep grazing beyond the garden wall and far reaching views in all directions.

This rural retreat in the mountains with sea views offers an idyllic location for guests looking to relax, recharge and connect with nature.

What makes this property unique

This rural retreat in the mountains with far reaching views is located in the foothills of Eryri (Snowdonia), just ten minutes from the pretty village of Llanbedr. The cottage's peaceful location provides a complete break from normal daily life; surrounded by an unspoilt, timeless landscape, with stunning panoramic views in all directions.

Outdoors lovers will relish this remote, rural location with a variety of scenic walking routes accessible straight from the front door. The Rhinog Mountains provide miles of hilly routes for keen walkers, with spectacular views of the countryside and coastline. For something a little more gentle, try the Nantcol Waterfalls Walks, four walking routes which take in the beautiful nearby Nantcol waterfalls, or the Llanbedr walks, a series of walks in and around Llanbedr that explore the history and landscape of the area.

If you'd like to venture a little further there are a series of towns within easy driving distance that offer a variety of days out. Barmouth, which is around a 25 minute drive south, is a popular seaside town with vast beach and a choice of pubs and cafes.

To the north is the small town of Harlech with its picturesque high street, long, sandy beach and famous castle; with an excellent visitor centre and cafe Castell Harlech is well worth a visit. A little further on you'll find the Italianate village of Portmeirion. Famously designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, Portmeirion is a unique collection of Italian style buildings grouped around a central piazza on the banks of the Dwyryd Estuary. This quirky little village makes an interesting place to visit with shops, cafes and woodland walks.

Just a few minutes from Portmeirion you'll find Porthmadog, home of the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway, as well as the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway. A must for steam enthusiasts, The Ffestiniog Railway follows a 13.5 mile route from Porthmadog's Harbour Station to the slate quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, travelling into the mountains through magnificent forests, past lakes and waterfalls. For a shorter ride children will enjoy the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway with its hands-on railway centre. A further 10 minutes will take you to Criccieth where you can visit the ruined castle or enjoy lunch at Dylan's on the seafront.
