About this property
Family Friendly Cottage on the shore front of Lough Mask, Tourmakeady
Outside: This great property is located right on the banks of Lough Mask, which is a limestone lake and the 6th largest lake in Ireland. The property has access straight down to the lake shore which is great for swimming or fishing. The owners also have a number of very friendly donkeys that roam around their field which is fenced off around the house.
Tourmakeady village ( Tuar Mhic Éadaigh in Irish) is just a short drive away and is still quite a hidden gem of Co. Mayo. Part of Tourmakeady was originally in neighbouring County Galway, but was placed under the administration of County Mayo in 1898.
This region has stunning lake & mountain views as it is located between the shores of Lough Mask and the Partry Mountains and covers an area from Srah to Maamtrasna. The region is steeped in history and geology so much so that they are now working at turning into a UNESCO Global Geopark (https://joycecountrygeoparkproject.ie/en/)
Tourmakeady is renowned for its fishing, wonderful walks, and a beautiful natural waterfall located in Tourmakeady Woods. This is a great location for exploring both Galway & Mayo. The beautiful market town of Westport is a must see when visiting Mayo and is only a half hour drive away, with the National Museum of Country Life is just 40 mins away. Take a day out in Connemara, just 30 mins away or head into the cultural Galway city.
Inside: This is a beautiful quiet bright cosy cottage, with gorgeous views. You walk into a large dining/seating room with great views of the lake (and also the Donkeys) from all the windows. This is a great space for all the family to enjoy. There is a beautiful stove and a small library of English and German language books to enjoy.
All the other rooms lead off this room. On your left you have a twin bedroom which has a cosy seating area for watching the TV (this is the only TV in the house). The TV has Irish & German channels. There is also an ensuite with shower.
To the back of the main room, there is a small kitchen but with all mod cons and a further small dining area. There is also a utility room and boot room leading out to the back of the house – perfect for when you come in from a country walk. Down a short corridor you will find a large family bathroom with a bath, a twin room with a queen and single bed. To the front of the house is another bright double room with stunning views and en suite bathroom.
This is a great family home with lots of space for everyone to enjoy both inside and out.
